## Community Q&A

**Q: What would you do with the front of these homes?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have just relocated, but still own our home back home and are considering purchasing a home in the new area we are in.  We are here for two years for my husband's job, and the rental/housing market is triple what we are used to.  We are considering purchasing a home here to put a little work into in the time we're here so we're at least making an investment with the $40k plus we will be paying here for either rent or mortgage.  These are two of the houses that we are considering need varying amounts of work, but both are lacking in curb appeal.  What are some ideas for both of these houses that could improve them?  We aren't looking for overly extensive structural fixes, as the market is already high and though these houses are priced lower than the average, they're not so low that we could afford to put more than $25-30k into them.  Any ideas appreciated!

A: House \# 1, I would remove all those windows and make an open porch.  Change the upper window and that yellow vinyl.  New front door, flagstone sidewalk and new landscaping to set off the porch.  Not crazy about those shingles and that brown color scheme.  I would update with charcoal shingles, gray siding, white windows, black glossy front door with glass in it and gray flagstone.  Choose a bright color for some flowers either red or fuschia.  This place has potential.
