Based on the dressy chandelier and formal symmetry of the way the niches are furnished and the matching side tables and lamps, the rustic nature of those side tables and weathered leather chair and ottoman don't really fit the mood. Or, is it more of a great room with mixed-use and a television? If that's the case, then taking out some of the matching features, dressing down the accessories and adding more texture would help create more coziness. I'd like to offer a couple of suggestions. The rule of thumb for the size of a coffee table is that it should be no less than 12" from the seating to allow people to pass without stepping on toes, and no more than 18" for ease of access to the table to reach for a glass or book. In following those rules, the large chair with its ottoman is much too close to the coffee table. If you wish to keep the coffee table, you may want to consider replacing that large chair and ottoman with a couple of smaller scale, but comfortable, armchairs in an interesting print. They would offer more seating, create better balance on the side by the large window and add some visual interest with a print. **Q: My most updates - need help on our color sectionals** *(in Design Dilemma)* Roman shades and roller shades for my balcony door.. In this case, you need to find a rug that you love that will frame and determine the seating arrangement of the room. It can be a classic design that will be a foundation for more contemporary furnishings, or a bolder more modern design. From that rug, you can select a fabric to complement it, and it should be chosen with the thought of how the room is going to be used, how often and by how many. Many people choose neutral fabrics (gray, beige) for their sofas, which is fine if it is not going to be used on a daily basis and there are no kids around. However, if it is a family room, I often recommend selecting fabrics with subtle prints that will disguise the everyday use.
