Is there an issue with strobing with LED lights like shown in this kitchen? A: Hello, and thank you for your inquiry; we have installed a good amount of fans in kitchens with LED lights around and as long as there is ample distance between the ceiling and the fan blades, there haven't been any issues, I would suggest at least a 15" distance. **Q: Greetings!** *(in Photo Questions)* Would you be able to tell me the brand and color of the tile backsplash you used? A: Hello, thank you for inquiring, I unfortunately don't have details regarding the brand of the tile, but can tell you it is a glass mosaic tile that came in a mesh, it does have mixture of shiny and matte tile pieces, Oceanside tile has similar tile and Walker Zanger has a great assortment of glass tiles where you can find something close to this. **Q: Awkward kitchen layout** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm attaching a blueprint of our kitchen. I'm putting in new cabinets, counters, and flooring, and I'm open to moving things around. I can't knock down walls: I'm on a budget. I'd appreciate any ideas! One note - at the bottom of the layout, the right corner has four steps that lead to a sunken living room. At present, that entire wall is about 3 feet above the living room floor. I plan to put a bank of cabinets there to delineate the space. My biggest worry is the top right corner, between the refrigerator and the stove. It's very tight and almost unreachable. I've thought about putting the stove and refrigerator side by side on the wall that is now just the refrigerator, but I'm worried about eliminating counter space. I'd love to see/hear any ideas! A: After looking at your options I would also agree that perhaps you move the refrigerator down to the wall which is continuous at 97" in length and near the stairs. The range across from the sink where the refrigerator wall is now, makes sense you can have continuous counter space and have real prep room. I do like the refrigerator on the back wall as it creates another zone and prep area. The room is tight, but it's workable. The Cabinet manufacturer is Merit cabinetry from Canada, https://www.merit-kitchens.com/ I'm an authorized dealer for this cabinet line, the wood is Cherry and the finish is called fruitwood. Cherry will mellow out in color with exposed to sunlight, so in time the sample you would see will vary a bit from how the kitchen ends up looking. Cherry is a beautiful wood with a very distinct grain. I would recommend this combination if you like to see the movement of the grain on the wood. Let me know if there are any other questions. **Q: Could you tell me what the tile used in the kitchen is? Thank you!** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Hi Beth, the tile used in this back splash is an Iridescent Glass mosaic tile. The pattern is called subway, they come in a mesh. I don't have the particular name of the tile purchased here, however I can tell you that similar tiles are available through Oceanside tile, this is a manufacturer, and you would need to find a local tile store that you can purchase from. Please visit their website to get more details. Oseanside glass tile, good luck in your search for the perfect tile. It's a task that can take time...but you will be glad you spent to the extra time and effort finding something that you will love. **Q: Cabinets- factory or local construction?** *(in Design Dilemma)* What have you found to be better quality for custom cabinetry: a) factory made cabinets ordered from a showroom, or b) made by a local contractor's carpenter? We want painted cabinets, and I know option "b" is usually painted after installation while option "a" is painted and sealed at the factory. Opinions? A: The quality of the cabinet construction can be comparable but the finish is not the same as getting a product done at a factory. No matter where you purchase cabinetry if you are getting solid wood doors with a painted finish you will get hair line cracks on the joints, a local shop will usually cover only a 1 year warranty on workmanship and installation, but most cabinet manufactures offer the peace of mind that comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
