As Masterbuilders and Designers, we find a common thread between Traditional Building and Solar, Energy Efficient and EcoLogical Building Practices. For over 40 years we have been Designing and Building Homes, Additions, and Renovations. Every building and building site reveal’s its potential to us: orientation, views, daylighting, passive and active solar, salvageable materials, and adaptive reuse opportunities. We listen to your objectives, dreams and goals. We observe. We weave a fabric of proportion and balance: intuitive circulation, warm and cozy spaces, open and communicative community areas, washed with daylight, super energy efficient, applied with a heavy dose of Common Sense. The beauty of Design/Build is that as we develop the form and function, we also monitor the cost and target a realistic budget.

> My first project was in 1987. Sunpower gutted my old ugly kitchen and gave me one that has withheld the test of time in quality and style. Jon built a wraparound deck that has greatly enhanced the curb appeal. Shortly after that he extended my master bath to include a double shower and a huge hot tub. He has removed a free standing fireplace, installed huge skylights, made two large beautiful rooms out of four. He basically built me a new home which I LOVE! I’ve just begun a new project with Jon to begin in Spring. When you find the best, you stick with them!

**★★★★★ — Qatana Samanen, Feb. 2019**

> Jon Costanza and SunPower Builders have completed three major projects for us - a four story addition and master suite remodeling for our first home and an extensive kitchen/family room/dining room remodeling in our new home. Jon always works to the highest standards of quality and integrity.
>
> Jon works hard to save the customer money. He took care of the design for both remodeling projects, saving us the expense of hiring an architect. He also found a way to reconfigure our existing kitchen cabinets, so that we did not need to buy new ones.
>
> The only issue we have had is with projects not completing as quickly as we would have liked, though this is often due to unexpected problems discovered in the course of the work - such as inferior/unsafe electrical or plumbing work discovered when walls were demolished which needed to be redone.
>
> I highly recommend Jon for any building project you may be considering, however large or small.

> Sunpower Builders is a company I can trust with my house. They have years of experience with new and old construction. We have an 1850's farmhouse, and it was imperative we have knowledgeable experienced people to bring the new remodeling into our old house. The safety of my house, the professional manner of all the employees, and the quality of workmanship, and knowledge of proper materials are some of the elements they possess. I have hired them for various projects such as the recent near total rebuilding of my back porch enclosure which is now the nicest room in our home. They also as skilled in alternative energy sources and how to integrate them into homes.

> Excellent installation and subsequent anti-squirrel fix. Jon did a great job installing our solar panels and our solar attic fan.

SunPower Builders expanded the existing living space out of its existing foundations to add a home office and timber framed livingroom addition. Utilizing the home’s existing solar exposure, SunPower Builder's design maximizes available day light with carefully placed openings in the structure. On the south facing walls, long st…

  - Description: 1994 Design/Build: The Pickle Jar House near Lancaster Pa. Innovation and simplicity. Our client wanted a Passive Solar House. During one of our early design meetings, she mentioned that she worked at a Pickle Company and that pickles were sold in 1-gallon glass pickle jars, from there the Pickle Jar House was born. We designed the north side to protect the home from the winter cold by building it into an embankment keeping the basement naturally tempered. It was also nestled close to the trees…

  - Description: In 2009, we were fortunate to be selected for Renovations to the Chanticleer Mansion, including the Restoration of the Main Courtyard and Entry, an outdoor sitting room/porch, and a small Carriage House. Renown Chester County Architect and Historian John Milner did the research and design, and we at SunPower Builders did the Restoration. - Description: I love the balance and common sense of old homes. I like antique details and modern amenities; quiet corners, open floorplans; family gatherings, and "me" space. Energy efficiency, lots of daylight and views, solar energy whenever we can. I like the term “adaptive reuse.” We demo-ed the 1960s addition, salvaged all the lumber, built on its footprint, and went up one story to create the master suite. We captured the best views and brought in tons of daylight. The kitchen and eating areas on the f…

Discover how we designed an effective solar system on this shaded and rolling property that not only exceeds production estimates but maintains the aesthetics and beauty of this gorgeous home and landscape. We work hard to get our customers what they want. This project required 44 modules. The roof area was constrained by trees, and the ground was constrained by a steep slope, property line setbacks. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the art!** *(in Photo Questions)*

This is a beautiful bathroom and I love the incorporation of a big piece of art! Could you share the name of the artist? Thanks!

A: How beautiful!! I love the daylighting and views. Who is the large painting by?

**Q: what is the exterior on silo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this a lime stucco?

Thanks

A: Its a regular exterior plaster that was modeled by hand. I keep it simple.

**Q: What are the pros and cons of solatube vs velux solar tubes ...** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are thinking about bringing in some natural light to our living space which is very dark. We are considering solar tube lights. These are not a traditional skylight but rather a tube that extends through your roof, allows the natural outside light in, transferring it through a tunnel with special material to draw it down into your living space. If it sounds like I haven't a clue about this, .... then, ... you're right!! I don't. I do know that there are two main choices: Solatube vs Velux solar tube lights ... Any advice from any of you who have taken the plunge and installed these units would be so welcome..? Likes? Dislikes? The internet has very limited consumer ratings on these.

A: I love them, both. I use them for interior dark hallways, staircases even showers. They cost somewhere around 1000$ installed, and if youre not fastidius with your installation its a pain to get them in with a clean lense, bug free, and no condensation, ( not an issue for good craftsperson's ) but nothing beats natural daylighting deep inside a building.

**Q: WHAT IS THE NAME AND BRAND OF THE BLUE PAINT?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry, I don't remember or have records of this.

**Q: Are the blueprints for these houses online? Especially the barn-like house? Thank you.** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: No. All are projects are custom designs tailored to the client and site. I'd be happy to send you a design/build proposal. 90% of our work is design/build, the other 10% is design only.
