> Super disorganized project management and extremely confusing communication. Vanessa was not proactive at all and didn’t know what was going on.

**★★★★★ — Alexa, Aug. 2017**

> D & J Kitchens and Baths is a honest, reliable & experienced remodeler with good design assistance, project planning, budget up front and a great team of employees to complete your project. They do the bulk of the work but the subcontractors are top notch too.
> D & J is highly recommended. Our complete kitchen remodel is beautiful and most importantly functional. Thank you D & J ; do not hesitate to call them for a bid on your remodeling needs.

**★★★★★ — Georgette Imura, June 2017**

> We are so happy we picked D&J Kitchens and Baths to do our remodel. We really like the fact that almost all the work is done by D&J staff. Fewer subcontractors means the fewer delays and superior work. Their in-house designer had great suggestions and was a tremendous help in picking out tile, flooring, countertops, etc. We would have been overwhelmed without her help. Everything was presented in writing, with weekly updates, so there were no surprises. We recommend D&J with confidence. You will not be disappointed.

> We've been in the rental business for over 25 years and have done an number of flips and remodels over the years, but when it came to our primary residence, we decided to hire someone to do a professional turnkey job on our kitchen remodel. This was or second kitchen remodel since owning this home for 30+ years and after interviewing a number of contractors we selected D&J. This whole experience could have not turned out better from start to finish and with follow up minor repairs. We were impressed with their professionalism and quality of work and could not be more satisfied. We are now considering them to do our bathroom remodel and will not need to interview any other company, we are certain D&J will do another exceptional job.

> For years I postponed my much-needed kitchen remodel from lack of inspiration and fear of the design-build process. I found my inspiration and my design-build dream team (D&J) on the Houzz App, and I could not be happier with the result. Before the end of my first meeting with them, I knew these were the people I wanted to work with. Darius and Nicole came up with a vision for my kitchen which not only honored my desires and sensibilities, but also exceeded my expectations. Moving forward, I found the entire D&J Team to be professional, considerate, and client-focused. I knew what to expect each day during the process and who to contact with any concerns or questions. On more than one occasion the crew went above and beyond the call of duty to make my life easier. Special thanks to project manager, Tony.

> D&J Kitchens and Baths were an amazing pleasure to work with! From the first meeting with Darius the owner and Nicole the designer, we knew we wanted to have them do our kitchen and bathroom remodel. The remodel involved knocking down walls and other extensive work. Their bid was not the cheapest, but I would not hesitate to use them again – it was worth it. Both Darius and Nicole spent countless hours with us, working out the details of the design, before we even paid them a dime. Once work started, we bonded with the work crew (mostly D&J employees) so much that, when the project was completed, we were bereft that these guys wouldn’t be coming to our house every day anymore. The project took approximately 4 months.
>
> D&J met all their deadlines and budget and kept us informed along the way every week. We made two change orders which were handled professionally by Erin. Erin also handled all of the complex purchasing and provided expert advice on many aspects of the project. All of the employees were professional and went out of their way to be helpful with explanations and detail work. Near the end of the project, one error that could have been disastrous was handed with such dexterity that I hesitate to mention it. I do, because as the discussion about fixing the error began, Darius told us to make the right decision for ourselves, and that D&J was responsible for any additional cost that would be required. Within minutes, a solution was decided upon and set in motion. That integrity is what we paid for with a slightly higher cost than the other four companies we originally considered.

> From the prompt return of my first call, to being on time for the first appointment, to thorough estimate, to the on time start and completion of our kitchen remodel, Darius and his crew were very professional and accommodating. They listened to our vision and offered helpfull suggestions during each phase of the project resulting in a final product beyond our expectations.

> This is my 3rd attempt to submit a glowing review for D&J. I hope this one finally "takes"! I wouldn't have been so persistent if I hadn't been so happy with the kitchen remodel D&J completed for me this Fall. I was initially impressed with D&J when owner Darius Baker spent 3 hours at the initial consultation discussing my vision and what I hoped to accomplish. I was especially pleased that he didn't try to impose his ideas or talk me out of mine. He proposed alternatives when appropriate but always explained why, not just "this is what you should do" or "you don't want to do that." The remodel of my 1959 kitchen involved replacing everything and removing a wall between the kitchen/dining area and the living room. I lived in the "back half" of the house while the job was completed. The way D&J planned and sectioned off the house made it not only possible but almost painless for me to live that way for the 8 weeks it took to complete the job. The entire crew, including office staff, was professional and easy to work with. I was especially impressed with the fact that at the end of each day's work the job site was cleaned up and tidy with any tools and equipment either removed or stored away. I couldn't be happier with the result. Although the bid was slightly higher than some others I received, there were no additional charges for additions to the work order such as adding electrical outlets, more can lights or replacing a light fixture, etc. In fact, the final total for the job was a few hundred less than the original proposal because of a change in my choice of flooring. I would definitely high D&J for any future projects.

> All their employees are nice and considerate when working in our home. They never forget to lock up the house. When I asked a question, they text or email me back promptly. Their office staff and owner answered all questions to our satisfactory. They listened to our needs/wants and make it happen to the best they can within guidelines and space availability, and if they can't, they make good suggestions/recommendations. We remodeled a bathroom and built an extra 1/2 bath. We like the results of both bathrooms, we like how everything was written down to the smallest detail from the beginning and the total price is given to us, so no surprises during the process or at the end. Since details already written down from the beginning, they didn't have to bother us to ask questions when they are working at the house. They took care of everything from getting permits, meeting city contractors at the house... of course everything is included into the price. Their prices are on the higher end, but it is worth it for us with their professionalism and how everything is taken care from beginning to end. So everything was good except 2 items. One, is delayed, 2 weeks delayed to finish as promised. Their time frame is already longer than other contractors that we interviewed. One reason for the delay, even though the project turned out to be harder than they thought, which was fine. But, not every day someone there working, and even when someone was there, they didn't work full days. If everyday someone was there working full time, my project could have been done much sooner, on time. Second, the floor is not done as well as the flooring company that we used for our floor project. Because we use the same floor materials, and because they had to take out some flooring and replacing the same flooring in the hallway, the workmanship is not as well done.
> So if time is not a big factor, or somehow negotiate the finish time has to be on time or else deduction on price, if you need to use the space. I was stressed out because we needed the bathrooms for guests, and so I thought 2 weeks after their promised finished date was plenty of time to have guests come stay. So project finished on Friday afternoon, our guests came Saturday,
> People are very nice from the owner, the receptionist, and the employees come out to the house. Lastly, they did a good job cleaning up afterwards too ( repaint walls, vacuum ) the areas that they dirty due to their work.

**Comment from D&J Kitchens and Baths Inc.:**

> While we strive to identify any obstacles before begining work there are some that do not show up until the demolition begins. A large concrete footing impacted the plumbing portion of this project which caused delay in approvals and production. We appreciated this clients patience in working through this issue.

**★★★★★ — mattpaulaconnors, Oct. 2014**

> We were extremely happy with the service provided by D&J, from beginning to end. Very thorough and complete estimate; clean job site with very polite and respectful staff; job completed on time and on budget. Very responsive since completion with minor questions and adjustments.

**★★★★★ — howphone, June 2014**

> D&J remodeled our 50s-era kitchen shortly after we bought our current house. The project involved complete demolition of the walls, floor, counters, and cupboards, elimination of an unneeded outside door and relocation of another outside door. We ended up with our dream kitchen that in the years since its completion we continue to enjoy down to the smallest detail. We selected D&J over other contractors we reviewed because they convinced us they're totally committed to their business and craft, memberships in various trade associations, and many years of experience. As we saw and heard from some of their other clients in our area, they completed their projects on schedule and on budget, which also was the case with our project. During the 10 years since D&J remodeled our kitchen, we have kept in touch with D&J's Darius Baker to seek his advice on other areas of our house that we've considered remodeling. He's been an invaluable and trustworthy resource. Even though our kitchen was remodeled some 10 years ago, the excellent design and craftsmanship still impress us and visitors to our home. The confidence D&J inspired in us when we selected them has stood the test of time.

**Comment from D&J Kitchens and Baths Inc.:**

> Thank you for your business and your trust in selecting my company. It is wonderful to learn how well our projects hold up over long periods of everyday use.

**★★★★ — punzquill, Feb. 2014**

> Two very dedicated men, very efficient. Good at scheduling and completing everything. Work is done in a very clean manner. They were hesitant to correct a misunderstanding, but they did.

## Community Q&A

**Q: what kind of countertops and cabinets are these?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hello Sonia
The cabinets are Cherry with a Shaker panel and the counter tops are granite. Not sure of the color but I am sure it would be available at most suppliers.

**Q: What wood is used for the cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What would is used for the cabinets?

A: Hi Christy! This is maple with a clear finish.

**Q: glass in doors** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love that too.. wonder if I can get in in colors.. ? like orange?

A: Hi Mary! The glass in these cabinets is done separately from the factory so in essence, you could use whatever you want for an insert.

**Q: Love knobs and pulls. Where are they from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi bklyn2nj! These are from Amerock.

**Q: I really like the countertop in this kitchen, also the flooring.** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please send me details about the manufacturer and where to purchase these items. I am planning to renovate my kitchen soon. Thanks

A: This countertop is actually Formica! It was a budget decision to maintain the aesthetic look of Granite. The floor is also a laminate product. Unfortunately, it is Wilsonart brand and Wilsonart stopped manufacturing laminate flooring several years back. This kitchen IS ,however, an excellent example of how one can achieve a desired look using other types of materials that are less costly.

**Q: Is this a tile or vinyl floor?** *(in Photo Questions)*

If it's vinyl, I would appreciate knowing where to get it. Thanks!

A: Andy, this floor is actually a laminate. We carry it in a brand called Alloc. They have a lot of different colors to choose from. I hope that answered your question. If I can help further please let me know.
