> Following a flood on our main level all over the original hardwoods, Superior was recommended to us by a friend. Their quick response and professional and friendly approach made this mess more tolerable. We worked directly with Josh. He handled every detail of our project with the utmost professionalism. We chose laminate hardwoods and truly couldn’t be happier. Their crew was friendly, professional and knew what they were doing. We highly recommend Superior for anything flooring and kitchen related!

> Superior did my complete kitchen remodel. They did an entire new layout for my kitchen to add more storage and better utilize my space. I now have a huge island that is perfect for family get togethers and a kitchen that I feel like a chef in! The reason that I went with Superior was because of the fact that they handled and scheduled everything from the countertips, floor, backsplash, electrician, cabinets, and plumber. It was so nice to be able to talk to one person and have them handle everything. Would definitely recommend this company for their top notch service and quality. We did run into a snag along the way with my water line but they took care of it and were right on it.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Van Gogh or Art Select?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Isn't the toasted maple color from the Art Select line of Karndean?

A: Thank you for catching that ishop19! You are correct toasted maple is from Karndean's Art Select line. We'll correct that right away.

**Q: Backsplash help please** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Backsplash dilemma
New house will have kitchen with Heritage Series Bertazonni in Butter color, Typhoon Bordeaux countertops, light batch of that, and porcelain tile flooring and seeded clear glass pendants.
Ideas to pull it together, please:)

A: There are some handmade tiles that are glazed all different colors and some have texture to them. You could do a picture framed look behind the stove if you have more room and the textured tile in the middle of it. With the same color in a herringbone look as the backsplash. Second option would be a travertine backsplash.

**Q: if working with place like reico do you have to order everything......** *(in Design Dilemma)*

through them? I would like to remodel kitchen and baths but really intimidated by the whole process and don't know where to start. Driving by I saw a Recio shop and have seen them mentioned here. My dh is very handy and could handle the bathrooms, probably all the work but we just do not have time on our side or even knowing where to order everything. If we go with a shop like Reico do we have to order everything through them like tiles, vanities, ect. or can we purchase things separately? We are in NOVA. I see everyone say go with someone that someone else has referred but I don't know anyone irl that has had any work done:( When we bought the house there were some fixes done to it and everything was done so shoddy. We also had flooring put in and again that was not done perfect. Just scared to spend so much money and have work not reflect that. Also just lots of anxiety to go there and listen to sales pitches, ect. I am the type that hates calling on the phone and deals only in emails. Uggg. Any advice about the process appreciated.

A: A complete kitchen and bath remodel can be overwhelming to say the least. It helps to have a company you trust that can handle putting the entire remodel together for you so you don't have to deal with scheduling 6 different crews. My company does a lot of complete kitchen and bath remodels, and we usually handle all of the scheduling and coordinating for our customer's; unless they have a plumber they love to use and we will coordinate with their plumber. It all depends on what you are looking for. You want to make sure the company is qualified to handle all aspects and ask about the electrician, plumber, and installers they use. Some times when you find a company that claims they can do it all they lack on certain parts. Just make sure they are using licensed professionals for all aspects of the job.

Most of the time it will save you money to do the complete remodel with the same company. They can sometimes give you package pricing.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

**Q: hardwood flooring for radiant heating** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am looking for hardwood flooring that is recommended by manufacturer for use with radiant heating. Something other than oak.

A: It all depends on the manufacturer of the hardwood. We use Anderson Engineered Hardwood a lot when we install radiant heat under floors. Maple and sometimes hickory wood species can be used over radiant heat. I would be a little more cautious with hickory though because when exposed to extreme heat it can have a tendency to split. The reason I am advising engineered is because it is a more stable floor and can handle the heat better. Engineered hardwood is still all real wood and you can not tell the difference once it is down. If you are unsure of the difference between solid hardwood and engineered hardwood please let me know and I would be happy to explain the difference.

**Q: character hickory versus rift, quarter sawn white oak** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Replacing wood floors in main floor of house. Goal is to open up spaces in traditional center entrance colonial 35 yr. old home in Chicago area.
At this point ,we are considering the clean lines achieved with rift and quarter sawn white oak as well as character hickory. Stain would be more toward a chocolate and furnishings tend toward traditional rather than modern/contemporary.
How would you decide which species to use and why.

A: Those are both great hardwood floors, I would go to the flooring store and look around to see what you like most. Is the hardwood going on plywood or concrete and do you have pets? The reason I ask these questions is because the species isn't as important as the finish, the manufacturer, and if you would like smooth or hand-scraped. Personally I prefer hickory and the look versus oak, but that is a personal opinion and it depends what you like to see. Oak looks great stained dark I have done a lot of oak cabinets stained dark and they are stunning.

**Q: rugs with rubber or polyester on vinyl if rug pad is the right materi** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Bought beautiful vinyl flooring for entire house without realizing how particular I would have to be with rugs. Manufacturer says no treated latex or solid rubber backed mats. does that mean that if I get a rug pad that's the right material,I can choose any rug no matter the backing?

A: The reason they say this is because on some vinyls the rubber backing of mats can change your beautiful new vinyl colors permanently. You just don't want the rug backing to touch the vinyl floor. Do you know what kind of vinyl you bought? Because a lot of the new vinyls you do not have to worry about that happening. If it is a Congoleum vinyl they do not stain from rugs like the traditional vinyls. You just want to make sure you get a proper pad because most of those rug pads are made for rugs on hardwood so the rug doesn't slip.
