They sold us on being able to do all of this but we were mislead, the work was decent at best & communication was frustrating. > They bailed on the project leaving us to find a new company to finish. They claimed the work that they did do would be covered under their 1yr warranty. It's months later & they will not return calls or emails leaving us with improperly laid out irrigation & dying plants. > They claimed to have a standing relationship with their subs. However, some hadn't yet worked together & had their own issues with Seed. That may explain the subpar work. Concrete puddles, is discolored & cracked. There was damage to the house, keys were lost & shortcuts like using a rusty steel pipe for an exposed structure were caught. We couldn’t believe it & neither could the project manager but he was unaware and not onsite. > When present, he didn't listen/forgot discussions, leaving us to get the blame from Seed. We were given an earful for holding up the process for not approving layout, given only a few hours to decide (the wrong plants sat for weeks & replaced the day we had to decide). We were also blamed for the Project Manager spending countless hours onsite despite him not being around. > Without the project manager workers would show up, turn to us for instruction & abandoned our job to go do another job across the street. > Please contact me if you want a more detailed experience **★★★★★ — Sona, Feb. 2019** > We have just hired kyle and his company for our backyard. He made the best designs from 3 contractors that we met with. They were the most up to date and in line with the current trends. We can’t wait to get the yard done for summer!! **★ — itshydee, Dec. 2018** > Stay away from this contractor. I provided him with a budget of $20-25K for our small backyard for our new house. He came up with an estimate and then we agreed to move forward with him. A deposit of $1500 was required after deciding to go with his plans. After the deposit was made he then came back to me and said everything I needed was going to cost over $30k. It didn’t make sense to provide me with an estimate within my budget and then to change that exact same estimate and add thousands of dollars more with no changes whatsoever to the backyard plans. I was upset and felt scammed because he increased his price after I made a significant deposit and didn’t even have any changes to what was going to be put into my backyard. He tries to tell me he was wrong with the original pricing and I can’t be upset because it’s only “an estimate”. I completely understand what an estimate means; however, a supposed professional like him shouldn’t have been off by THOUSANDS of dollars. I tried to get my deposit back and instead of being an honest salesman for lying about his original quote he angrily tells me I’m the one scamming him because I didn’t want to follow through with the more expensive plans I never agreed on in the first place. In the end he refused to give me my deposit. I would have pursued legal actions but my daughter was only a few months old at the time. I lost $1500 and wasted weeks of my time with this contractor. **Comment from Seed Landcare:** > We are sorry that you are dissatisfied. The $1500.00 deposit was a fee for the conceptual design work, resulting in completed plans that were approved by your association in the year 2016. We charge this conceptual design deposit to each client that requests construction or a landscaping install. We put together a full proposal for your plans, which adhered to your original budget at $23,000.00. We listed several different options for additions that were specifically requested by you. These additional options would add additional costs to the original proposal. There were several instances where you requested to purchase plants or hardscape items from outside vendors such as Home Depot, for us to install. Unfortunately we could not reach an agreement on the proposed project. The deposit that you put down was for design and conceptual services, that we rendered to you in good faith. Seed Landcare also was conscientious about their follow through and checked in with us in person after the installation to make sure that the plants and trees were doing well. Seed Landcare was a pleasure to work with. Kyle and Katie from Kool designs came up with an amazing drought tolerant design for our complex. Seed Landcare was prompt, professional and made sure everything was cleaned up everyday there was work. Kyle really knows his plants and how to care for them. We are actually going to have him come out 3 times a year to care for our plants and trim correctly. Going drought resistant can be a challenge because grass likes to come back. He put in a drip system so it was not possible to lay down a barrier. His crew came out regularly to pull what grass was coming up. Yes, sometimes not all plants make it and die. Kyle came out promptly to replace them. After interviewing a number of designers and contractors we settled with Kyle Johnson of Seed Landcare as our contractor. Kyle, working closely with Katie Cool the landscape designer, came up with a beautiful drought tollerant design. The implementations was not easy because our condo was mid-century with landscaping to boot! I was amazed at the speed in which Kyle and his crew was able to remove all the grass and shrubs to begin with a clean slate. We had two old olive trees we wanted to save which were on a mound bordered with ugly concert bricks. Kyle came up with a beautiful solution of removing the bricks and bordering the trees with natural wood boxes which his crew built. It looks fantastic! In addition to that, Seed Landcare was responsible for doing all the plumbing for the drip irrigation, planting the new trees and plants, doing electrical for the outdoor lighting and installing the water-meter timer and rain sensor. As part of Seed Landcare service, Kyle has been by the project (after completion) to make sure everything is in working order and looks great. It was a pleasure working with Kyle and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of our new, drought tolerant landscaping.
