What materials were used here for the counter tops and flooring. I love the way they go together and warm up the white cabinets?  Lovely.

This Monterey County kitchen had a ton of potential.  So we took advantage of that!  This extremely outdated kitchen got the make over it deserved.  What is your favorite aspect of this kitchen?

**Q: Love this under sink cabinet.  Where can I procure it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: HI Oara, most of our kitchens have a separate pull out waste bins, so there is no need for a trash can under the sink. We have found our customers enjoy this feature as it makes it easier to access the cleaning supplies that are inevitably stored in the sink cabinet. They no longer have to get down on their knees and reach under and back, they simply pull this out, grab what they need from the top, and push it back in with a toe. It's been very helpful for those with mobility and movement issues.

**Q: Exterior Home "Face-Lift"** *(in Before & After)*

This year our home turns 130yrs old!  We've lived in it for 3 yrs now and I have wanted to paint the exterior since day one. It was a perfectly fine lemon-yellow color, but starting to chip in spots and ready for a new look.  I decided to go bold and pull out the Victorian charm of the 4 different types of  siding, but still keep within the same "family" of paints, with a bold red accent.

**Q: Sherman Oaks Kitchen Revamp: Before and After** *(in Before & After)*

Kitchens are the gathering place of a home. You can set a perfect table but the stories and the laughter are usually loudest in the kitchen as food comes out of the oven and wine bottles are opened. So keeping a kitchen’s fresh look is something to be prioritized. We recently helped revive a Sherman Oaks kitchen with some fun, functional, and beautiful upgrades. 

Before: The original kitchen was not in its prime. It was a standard galley kitchen that had a doorway to a very small dining room and on the opposite side it had a stairway to the backyard. It had limited counter space with a tiled countertop and for a family with children, this was cramping their style. The kitchen also needed some modern amenities such as a trash and recycling drawer, a proper pantry and a place to hide the stacked washer/dryer.

I worked with our clients directly and spent time in the former kitchen to get a feel for the family’s workflows and the surrounding spaces. One of the aspects I noticed right away was that the layout of the space was tight and not functional for this growing family. Once a new design was proposed that involved bigger rooms, less walls, and more free flowing movement between the rest of the house; the colors, materials, and textures of the kitchen came into play. Working to incorporate the client's preferences within the larger design scheme of creating an open and light-filled space, a balance was achieved.

After: We knew we needed to give this space some breathing room. Our design included opening the wall between the kitchen and dining room and then we saw the entire space expand. We enclosed the outdoor stairway and created a small but separate laundry room. With kids on the go, we added counter seating for serving quick meals while cooking or cleaning up. We made an appliance wall with a full pantry, 48” refrigerator, and double ovens which made it possible to have a lot of countertop space near the sink and stovetop. We used Thermador appliances which gave the space an open and contemporary feel. 

The overall look is bright, modern, and accessible. Our choice of sky blue for the cabinets make for a clean and fresh kitchen while the brass accents add a little glam. The backsplash tiles are Walker Zanger Vibe in White Gloss while the countertops are marble for longevity and easy clean up. The built-in bench seating for the dining room table creates plenty of room for kids to pile in during meals. For window treatments, we used multi-color roman shades to coordinate with the geometric backsplash and bring the space together. We loved working on this family-friendly design to give this kitchen a new and beautiful life!
