Over the years the yard deteriorated into an eyesore in a very beautiful neighborhood. Over the course of 2 years we interviewed a few landscape design firms, and while they had some beautiful ideas, we didn’t feel like they were the right company for this property. My mom heard of Sacred Space Garden Design through Arroyo Magazine as well as a few Pasadena Showcase Houses where they had provided a garden space design. She found their website and really resonated with the designs she saw online. > > We asked Karen to come to the home so we could discuss ideas, let her get a feel for the property, and hear some of her initial ideas. What struck us after her first meeting was that she was inspired by the space. We felt that would be important to provide a top-notch landscape. > > Please note, this project was HUGE. The property is a half an acre and needed a 360 degree plan. Every part of the existing hardscape was removed. Every inch of dirt on the property needed to be addressed. A: Thank you - it's a historical gem **Q: Urn fountain** *(in Photo Questions)* What is the base of the urn fountain? Did you bury the basin? A: Yes the basin is buried. It is a special plastic basin with a grate that is made specifically for this purpose. There is also a trap door which allow you access to the pump. **Q: What was/is this space used for?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: This is the before picture. It was developed as a contemplation garden. We call it the water garden. It can be viewed from the patio above, as well as the adjacent pool deck, so it adds quite a lot of beauty to the property. Could you please tell me about the plants here? Specifically the fluffy, light green ones, the reddish, spindly ones, and the low ground stuff. All of it, actually! thanks! A: Kate - thank you for your interest. I am the designer of this garden & can give you the correct plant names. The gold fluffy plant is one of my personal favorites & I include it in most of my work (Coleonema 'Sunset Gold') Foregraound left is Acorus gramineus 'Ogon' The red spindly is Japanese Barberry & there is absolutely nothing wrong with using it. The color is very dramatic. The trees are GIngko biloba. The grey low growing in the center is Catmint 'Walker's Low' Along the left hand side we have Miscanthus zebrinus 'Zebra Grass' and in the very back on the right side we have Cotinus. --- *Source: Houzz professional profile.
