### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Holly Hetlzer - Balanced Life Physical Therapy, Dec. 2024**

> First off thank you to those on Houzz for suggesting Fenstermann for shallow depth windows. I have two windows in the from of my physical therapy office that have beautiful wood molding around them that I did not want to block with outside mount or curtains. I was so excited when I learned about fenstermann shades to fit the bill! Ingo was so responsive to every email or call even though I dragged my heels way too long in the actual ordering process. The shades were easy to install after watching a couple of Fenstermann's youtube videos and reading through written instructions on their website. My only regret is that I did not order them sooner. They look beautiful and classy, light filtering to keep natural light in my office while offering just the privacy I need. Love them! Thank you Ingo!

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Holly:
> Thank you so much for sharing your personal Fenstermann experience. It means a lot to us that you took time out of your busy schedule to write a review about us.
> It was really fun to go with you the entire process from measuring to picking to fabric and to the final installation - so happy that you love the result.

> We spoke with Ingo about getting blinds for our new house and our customer service situation and happiness with the blinds exceeded expectations. He was brilliant and responsive and the install (which I was worried about) was straightforward.
>
> In fact, our experience was so good we’ve recommended him to others in person and are buying from him again now.

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Marcus: It was a pleasure and fun working with you and I am happy to see that you guys love the outcome. Thank you for the referrals and for supporting our company.

> (Reposting my Google review here... but our shades have been great, so want to spread the word):
>
> We recently got new windows for our home and ended up with a need for shallow depth blinds. I spoke with several window treatment dealers (online and local) and there didn't seem to be any options. Luckily, I found out about Fenstermann from some Houzz posts and was happy to see they have an outpost here in the Bay Area.
>
> Jenny came to our home and was extremely friendly and helpful, taking care of measurements and bringing along the largest sample book we've ever seen. We were even able to have them install the blinds as well.
>
> The blinds are imported from Germany and are very high quality when I compare them side by side with other blinds we have. The best part is even though they are top-down-bottom-up blinds, they do not have the unsightly and inconvenient strings running across your window viewing area. Worth the investment and am very happy so far!

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Richard:

> I purchased window shades for my new tilt and turn windows from Mr Fenstermann. From start to finish the experience was top notch! Ingo was a pleasure to work with. He responded to questions quickly, sent me samples and made the ordering process so easy. Received the product very quickly and then Ingo walked me through the installation process. I highly recommend Mr Fenstermann!

**★★★★★ — Celia Ramsay, Jan. 2023**

> Fenstermann is a great company, located in Florida with an office in California. The blinds I bought are expensive, but great quality and totally worth the money! I first learned about Fenstermann when I needed blinds for some new tilt and turn windows. Tilt and turn are not common in the US, but they're popular in Europe. I was having no luck finding anything suitable till I hit on Fenstermann.
>
> Ingo and his team are very helpful and easy to work with. They gave me clear instructions on how to measure. When I had questions, I sent photos and they were quick to answer. Samples arrived very quickly, and the blinds were delivered from Germany, where they're manufactured, in a very reasonable amount of time.
>
> Our most recent purchase was for casement windows and the second experience was every bit as good as the first.
> Fun fact: Fenstermann is German for "window man".

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Celia:
>
> Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing about your Fenstermann experience. I remember our very first contact and your first order and how happy you were with the result. From there you ordered another set of shades and then a third set with our office in California. Thank you for letting us guide you through the entire process and for following along.
>
> The most difficult part was on you - taking the measurements and installing the shade. And you did an excellent job.

**★★★★★ — Tyrone P, Dec. 2022**

> Fenstermann came highly recommended from two separate window manufacturers and installers in our area, and I can't imagine considering anyone else for tilt/turns and horizontal pivots. We been impressed with Ingo's support (and patience!) throughout the entire process of ordering and installing our window blinds, from color selection; to measurement; to installation, which we completed ourselves.
>
> Our remodel needed a total of 16 treatments, and while they weren't cheap -- especially the large-format ones -- the quality, finish, after-care support, and day-to-day usage have all met our very high expectations. The shades have received high praise from our architect, who loves that there are no drawstrings to contend with. We like to keep our bedrooms dark at night, and haven't needed any additional window coverings, despite a small amount of unavoidable light leakage on the edges of the blackouts.
>
> 5 months in, we're still as happy with them today as we were the day they arrived.

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Tyrone:
> Your project will be indeed one of the most memorable ones in my book. Your attention to detail made is possible to have perfectly fit shades for all of your windows. The result is stunning, and I hope that you and your little family have many years to enjoy them in your new home.

> We recently purchased a new construction home that came with tilt & turn windows. We quickly realized that it would be a challenge finding window treatments that would work. We are so happy to have discovered Fenstermann.
>
> At first, I was very apprehensive about the idea of measuring myself, ordering shades all the way from Europe, and doing the installation ourselves. I was expecting that, at best, it would be a painful process, and that we would end up with some shades not fitting quite right.
>
> I couldn't have been more wrong. Ingo is a true professional. He guided us through the entire process, responding to all my questions quickly and thoroughly. When the shades arrived sooner then expected, they were perfect. All of them fit exactly right. The installation itself was a breeze.
>
> We could not be happier with our Fenstermann honeycomb shades. I would recommend them to anyone!

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

**★★★★★ — stephanielarson, Nov. 2022**

> Our project was to create a sun room from a former screened porch. There were three walls of windows with only a one inch depth for the trim. We really wanted inside mount, top down bottom up honeycomb shades to create a simple, clean look and maximize the flexibility for adjusting light. We discovered that Fenstermann is the only company that sells shades for shallow windows.
>
> Our experience working with Ingo Scholz, President was exceptional. He was professional, helpful and the entire process was easy. We were sent samples of materials from which to select our shades, phone calls and emails were returned promptly, and the shades arrived within the projected timeframe. We had ten windows with varying measurements and each shade was numbered to correspond to the exact window. The workmanship is excellent. Installation was well described in instructions and simple to execute.
>
> We love the shades! They are exactly what we were hoping for. I highly recommend Fenstermann if you are in the market for window shades.

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Stephanie:
> Thank you so much for sharing your Fenstermann experience with the Houzz community. We from Fenstermann had the easy part of your project - we just had to listen to you and the requirement for the project.

> As an architect I was very particular when it came to selecting blinds for my own home remodel. I had a unique design problem I was trying to solve which required a narrow profile shade, so I searched online and found Fenstermann. After a call with the Owner, Ingo Scholz, he connected me with my local rep and I had a wonderful experience working with Jenny. Not only did I end up with the perfect architectural solution to fit my unique window detail, but they were also extremely generous with their time to help us finalize a fabric choice, accurately measure the windows for the order, and perfectly install the units when they arrived onsite. I ordered 15 units throughout my house!!!
>
> We love the results and I highly recommend Fenstermann. I have excitedly been sharing my discovery of this product with friends and colleagues.

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Steven:
> Thank you very much for sharing your Fenstermann experience here on Houzz. We are happy to hear that you are very satisfied with our service and our product. We remember how much fun it was to pick the fabrics for each room and also customize the colors for the rails (silver and anthracite) and even the installation parts. The outcome shows your attention to details, and we are glad that we could be a part of it.

> My daughter had your shades put on her house and she wanted me to install the same shades in my home. We put the shades in 2 bedrooms . On the west side we used the shades with the foil backing. They have really kept the room cool. The other bedroom, kitchen and den had the linen shades. The project was put together quicker than I expected and the team who measured and then put them in were prompt and business like. They were very accurate. The shades greatly enhance our home.

> I'm thrilled with my kitchen shade from Fenstermann and only wish I had discovered them before I did my other window treatments. I have a very shallow depth window. I can't believe how slick this design is. The process was so easy. I took my own measurements and I worried a little that it would be too tight of a fit, but it was perfect! Love it! Highly recommend.

**Comment from Fenstermann LLC:**

> Dear Kelly:
> Thank you very much for praising our product and our services. I had fun working with you through the steps and I thrilled when I received the pictures of the final product. Give yourself some credit (actually 90% and more) for following our lead, taking the measurements, installing them and making this project a full success.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Creating Privacy with Floor to Ceiling Window** *(in Windows)*

We have purchased a house with a window 'nook' in the kitchen. Not really loving it but its here and our issue is how to create privacy with the bottom 2 rows of windows which look right over the neighbor and the street beyond. We cannot reconstruct it at this tiime to create a solid wall at that height. Curtains would have to be some sort of set up that would look too cafe like
. and dont really wnat curtains anyway. I thought of cutting inserts for each window but with what? Would love suggestions.

A: You have very minimal depth and for privacy you do need only the bottom half to be covered. If you go with 1 inch pleated or honeycomb shades that open bottom up and top down and have a light filtering but privacy fabric, you will achieve exactly what you are looking for. Do not use any pull cords or chains...they will be just dangling and might become a threat for children or pets. You can even play around with colors. The picture below is for far bigger window, but it should give you an idea what is possible.

www.fenstermann.com

**Q: bay window challenge** *(in Windows)*

I would love help deciding on new window coverings for my bedroom. I will attach photos of what I had and where my windows are. I have 2 large windows beside each other but one is a window seat.
I plan to install new blinds- probably white.
I want the room to feel lighter so nothing heavy.

A: Inside Mount Blinds or Shades should be the best option for your space. Preferably with bottom-up top-down operation to manage light and privacy.

There is no header nor strings across your glass...just a minimalistic window covering that is made for inside mount installation. 1 inch in overall depth.

**Q: Where to install a cellular screen for a deep window?** *(in Home Decorating)*

We are installing a cellular screen (honeycomb single cell) to a deep window, the window is pretty deep, about 14 inch depth. I am wondering where we should put the screen, close to glass or close to the window casing/trim.
Right now it is installed close to the window, see the picture below. However, it does look a little
strange to me. Or just because I am not used to it? Any rule for installing a screen for the deep window?

A: You did just fine...looks good and functional.

**Q: window treatments** *(in Home Decorating)*

What kind of window treatments would work best with recessed farmhouse windows without compromising the integrity of the windows from the outside during the day.

A: I would pick inside mount bottom-up top-down shades. Each window gets its own shade to keep the design integrity on the inside as well.

Hundreds of colors or prints allow for the perfect match.

**Q: In Search of impact-rated folding glass panoramic doors in Florida?** *(in The Old House)*

We’re in the middle of planning our remodel and exploring options for large patio openings. Sliding doors were our first thought, but bifolds/folding glass sliding patio doors look really cool. We are in Florida so won’t have the doors open all the time, it would be nice and look beautiful to have the whole opening opened up!
Our initial search found that these doors are pricey and not all providers have a Florida approved system. We found a local company in Tampa called UFold Doors. Their folding glass doors are Florida approved and impact-rated. We looked at 3 other providers including Home Depot, Home Depot’s folding patio doors are not Florida approved or hurricane rated and it was difficult to get anyone to answer questions regarding configuration & installation. Panoramic Doors were decent and not sure why but when we went to their showroom 1 of the 2 doors on display was broken/inoperably and the hardware on the side of the door to release the panel from the track appeared to be made of plastic components. Origin doors looked nice and very similar to UFold but their price was nearly 70% more and that did not include installation!
UFold has a great product and curious what type of maintenance and maintenance issues you’ve experienced with your folding doors and have you worked with UFold before?
Would love to hear feedback from designers or homeowners who’ve gone this route.

A: You have quite a few options...Nanawall for example is very well known across the US market and their doors are available from different materials.

**Q: Need help with window treatment placement** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello-we just moved into an older home with narrow depth windows so our treatments need to be mounted outside. Previously I have always had inside mounted treatments so I’m not sure what looks best here. I’ve had some window treatment companies come measure but their design help is limited. Should I do picture frame mounted, to the edge of the window molding mounted or on the wall above and to the sides of the molding? It’s not super wide nice modern molding but also doesn’t look bad and is painted white. I plan to do one shade across both windows. Also not sure if it should be a waterfall shade or have a valance? I prefer the waterfall look I think but I was told it’ll stick out more from the window so I’m not sure if this will look funny? I think a valance is a little more formal or dated but maybe I’m wrong? Looking to do wooden Roman’s in our family and dining room as they’re open to each other and then soft Roman’s in our living room. Pic of family room here, room is approx 20x25.

A: This room - the windows and doors - are a perfect match for inside mount window shades. For the windows, you will have a shade for each panel - inside mount to preserve the window trim. The doors, you will have 1-inch shades to the door panels, so they travel with the doors.
