He removed the existing cabinets and made holes in all the walls. The electrician that the contractor supplied helped make the holes and in the process cut through water pipes in the wall. The mess that has been made is incredible. I have tried to clean some of the mess that the contractor is incapable of cleaning himself. The contractor treats each small job like an impossible task that only he can solve. The contractor has lied to me several times. If I was working and not watching every thing he is doing I would believe his lies. I wanted a beautiful kitchen, but I have a disaster area that is not beautiful. Sara was excellent. > We had shopped around several kitchen companies prior to approaching the Carole Kitchen Design. Sara's vision and ideas blew me away and her service, customer focus and the actual final product were excellent. I would highly recommend. **★ — HU-23623605, Jan. 2023** > We ordered & received a new maple bathroom vanity with the reassuring comments that if anything needs to be adjusted, just let them know, and they will take care of it. We'll wouldn't you know, we had two drawers that didn't close all the way. We called Carole, they sent their guy out to look at it and said they would need to order two new sets of drawer slides. After 6 weeks of waiting and multiple calls to them, I was told the drawer slides were in. When I called to arrange a time to have them come to install, they said, oh no, we're not installing, you are. They said this was more than an "adjustment" and would not do the work needed to fix this issue. I called to discuss this with the boss and was just blown off. He tried tap-dancing around the issue of their broken promises and blamed the installation. > > Suffice to say, we will NEVER use or recommend using this company for any project. They will not stand behind the products they sell! **Comment from Carole Kitchen and Bath Design:** > We are sorry the customer is upset. However, we absolutely stand behind the products we sell and the three people at Carole’s who interacted with this customer feel this review is unfair. > > As with any cabinet installation, it is the responsibility of the installer (which in this case was the homeowner and the person who wrote the review) to slightly adjust things like doors and drawer fronts after and during the installation. In fact, we state this in our paperwork which the customer signed. We also stated, in the paperwork he signed, that Carole’s is not responsible for installation, adjustments, or any type of labor. We do however tell customers to call us if something is wrong, damaged, or cannot be resolved with adjustments so that we can inspect and determine how to resolve issues. > > The customer received the cabinet in May. Five months later, in October, the customer called in and said he was having trouble with two drawers so a Carole’s employee, who has excessive experience with cabinetry installation, went to his house soon thereafter. > > The Carole’s employee noticed the cabinet was not installed correctly by the customer. The wall had an excessive bow in it and, in order to properly install the cabinet, shims need to be used to keep the cabinet square. This is a very common installation step. The customer was told the cabinet needed to be shimmed in order for the cabinet to be brought back to square and the drawers to work properly. > > The customer said he would square off the cabinet before the countertop was installed. The customer also asked us to order new drawer glides – despite us telling him they would not solve the problem. > > We called the following week to check in and the customer said that the countertop was installed before he was able to shim the back of the cabinet. He asked again that we order the glides, which we did at our expense, despite knowing that new glides would not fix the issue. We have been contemplating this project on and off for years but always ran up against design, cost or confidence issues that pushed it off. There are so many big and somewhat irreversible decisions that the fear of getting something wrong simply scared us off. > > As of November the kitchen project is completed and we are absolutely overjoyed at the results. This could not have happened without the expertise, guidance and patience Frank provided. During the research phase we sat with several other showroom designers. I think there is always a point where you start to realize that the dimensions of the kitchen space and your personal preferences allow design software to generate similar design concepts, but this is where the similarities end. > > Frank has been at this for a long time. He has experience as a contractor, installer and designer and it absolutely manifested itself during our project. “What if we make this change; what do we gain and how much will it cost?” are almost endless adjustment decisions that are the real tough part, in my opinion, once a basic design is chosen. Frank has seen this, been there and done that. One of the features, of many, that Frank helped us through to perfection, involved maximizing counter space, cabinet depth and floor space along with minimizing cost increases. Frank proposed 15 inch deep wall cabinets but suggested staying with standard 24 inch floor cabinets bumped out from back wall to allow for deeper counter space (3 inches extra in cabinet and counter depth makes a world of difference). We reaped all the space benefits from this adjustments with minimal cost increase. > > I cannot list all the ideas Franks' experience and guidance help us with because there were so many instances. We have a beautiful-no regrets kitchen. Along with the technical aspects of the project that Frank provided we will always be grateful to how we were treated during the long decision process. There comes a point when you have exhausted all your “go-no go” wavering and just say it’s time to commit. I’ll never forget the day sitting in the showroom with Frank, for probably the tenth time, and saying, “ok, lets' just do it”. Not sure what it was, but Frank detected an uncertainty in me and calmly said, “Charlie, you are not reddy yet; take a little more time”. I don’t think I’ve ever had a salesman say this to me in my life. Closing the deal is usually top priority. > > Within several days we confidently finalized the deal. Cabinets arrived on schedule and the installation went forward. Frank remained in touch with us, made visits to follow up on progress and worked closely with our contractor. I chose Carole because people from my town Facebook page recommended them. Jeannie was my first contact, and she is amazing. She paired me with Debbie Toland which was a great fit. I was nervous to start the kitchen process, and Debbie made the whole process easy and enjoyable. The architect did not design the kitchen layout, so she had to start from scratch. She gave us several ideas of how to design things. I am a detail person, and I never felt as though I was bothering her with my million questions. She worked very well with our contractor; he had worked with her before and only had positive things to say about her. Debbie also designed my personal desk space and our mudroom. We couldn't be happier with the end result. **★ — Eddie Liao, Sept. 2018** > I have to admit, I never write reviews whether good or bad, but I am pretty dissatisfied. > > Let me start off by saying that the warehouse is nice and that this review probably does not speak for the entire company. Jeanie, for example, was so welcoming and friendly. We briefly talked on the phone before assigning me to a designer. A few months later, I walk in and she knew exactly who I was without us ever meeting. She was great! > > We were assigned to Don Rodd as our designer. This was my first kitchen renovation so everything was new to me. From the beginning, it felt like a bad match. Don did not seem interested at all in our concerns, questions or comments. Eventually, we figured out the design and I communicated it with my contractor. > > After Don came out to our house to finalize measurements, I realized that in the final design, he had moved the sink back its original location. We had established that the sink would be moved. He claimed that he messed up on the measurements and it wouldn't fit. This was baffling considering we provided all the measurements and he knew the dimensions to all of the cabinets. > > Not a big deal since it is a rental property, we proceed with everything. I place the order for the cabinets, counter top and a sink. > > When the cabinets arrived, the contractor had told me the person delivering the cabinets were ROLLING them. The contractor and I noticed 2 small defects and let Don know right away for replacement parts. The replacements have taken 3 weeks to get in and a lot of following up on MY end to get status updates on these. To be honest, every time I have brought it up to Don on the phone, it's seems that he had simply forgot. > > A day or two later, I realized that the sink had not been delivered with the cabinets. Again, I had to follow up with Don. Eventually, he sends over the sink, but it is the WRONG one. We ordered a D-shaped stainless steel sink and he sent over just a rectangular stainless steel sink. We were okay with the sink since it seemed a bit larger than the D-shaped we were looking at. Without even contacting me about this issue and letting me know, I receive a check in the mail for the difference in price. Not once did he show professional courtesy and try to contact me to let me know. > > For the counter tops, we had someone come and create a template for the counter after the cabinets were installed. We were told that it would take a week for the counters to come in. After chasing Don again, he tells me that the counters will actually take 10 business days. This put our entire project to a stop. The cherry on top was when he contacted me later saying that I owed another $300 because the counters were slightly bigger than anticipated and that bringing the counters up to the second floor would be $100. First of all, I still don't understand how the counter could possibly get larger considering Don had dimensions to the cabinets AND he came out to finalize the measurements of the kitchen. Second, he had never once mentioned a fee for having the counters brought up to the SECOND floor. It was clearly communicated to him that we were on the second floor and he even physically set foot in our kitchen. Boggles my mind how something like this was never brought into the numerous exchanges we've had. > > Fast forward to when the counter tops arrive. They were cut WRONG. The overhang on some edges were more than the others. The man that delivered the counter tops had to cut the counter top on site to have at least some alignment. Now, I have one edge jutting out about 4 inches where the others jut out about an inch. I expressed this to Don as well as following up with the replacement pieces and he totally disregarded it. Talk about customer service.. > > I am at the point where I have to accept things the way they are because we have been without a kitchen for so long and sending the counter tops back to be resized would take another 2 weeks. Things like this should have been done correctly in the first place considering the amount of money invested. > > Since I am completely new to this, for a lot of these things, I thought it was just part of "the process." I checked in with my contractor and even he said that all of this is normal. He even called Don for me. > > Overall this was a pretty poor experience. It seems like this company is pretty reputable based off of reviews, but I would not recommend this to any of my friends. **Comment from Carole Kitchen and Bath Design:** > Since Eddie posted this review, we are very happy and grateful that we have had the chance to go over this project in detail with Eddie and internally. There were most definitely steps along the way where Carole's could have communicated more thoroughly and clearly and could have offered more detail about certain points/junctures in the project in regard to the specific things mentioned in the original review. This is certainly a lesson that reinforces the fact that there is \*always\* room for improvement with communication, especially in this incredibly detailed line of business. > > Two examples for anyone interested in reading more... > > SINK: It turned out that the original sink discussed simply did not come in the specs originally requested. The designer then researched another less expensive option but failed to give full background on reasons for the replacement and refund. It seems that the client never knew that in fact that original sink is not made, vs the designer not ordering the correct model. Updated model info has been discussed internally for future reference. > > COUNTEROP: The countertop situation was highly unusual for Carole's in that the client purchased the laminate material only but his own contractor installed the laminate rather than the fabricator producing AND installing. We understand though, how without detailed on-the-spot explanation the countertop vendor's attempt to help on site might instead be interpreted as fixing something rather than an attempt to assist the contractor. We have decided to implement a new policy about this going forward. > > Finally, I regret that the contractor described our delivery team as 'rolling' cabinetry---Heavy, bulky cabinets often take a couple strong and experienced cabinetry delivery people to angle and rotate boxes through doorways. I spoke with our guys who definitely remembered this delivery. I can state without hesitation that our warehouse manager knows the risk of damaging products ordered especially for each client and the undesirable ramifications for client and for our firm of embarking on replacements and his warehouse and delivery job is highly focused daily on safety, product care and courtesy. > > As I relayed to Eddie, all feedback is a chance to review, dissect, and look for ways to improve going forward, and I am thankful for that. A: Hi again! Honestly not sure as this was chosen by the homeowner. Probably not EXACTLY the same though as the cabinetry paint is a KraftMaid color. I will try to find out and if I do will loop back. **Q: whqt brand are these cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: These are Dura Supreme---a great option and they do a great job with painted cabinetry as is shown in this kitchen.
