**Q: Help us get front window placement just right for our "Barn House"** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're struggling over the right window sizes and heights for our new house.
Would you change anything?  (Also need to consider impacts to matching door frame heights and the height off the floor of any windows)
Thoughts?
FYI:  The transoms in the breezeway are there because behind the 2 right-most windows, we'll have lockers that take up the whole wall space below the transoms (we'll cover the double hung windows with blinds) but we wanted a way to still have some natural light in the mudroom.  Then, to keep the look consistent on the front of the house, we added transoms above all the 1st floor windows.

A: are larger windows an option for upstairs?
for the breezeway maybe three of those square windows together would look nice. 
It is going to be a beautiful home

I finally got the panels over my fridge and freezer to be the right size. But now I keep staring at the space above them. I had asked for solid stock there, and that is what I have. But does it look unfinished?

A: I'd leave it. You have spent so much time planning and dreaming about the kitchen that you just need to get your mind to relax and enjoy what you have created. It is beautiful. 
Houzz is great but it can make us a little (or more than a little) obsessed. Can I get an amen?

**Q: Outside Hinges Kitchen Cabinets** *(in Polls)*

I have outside hinges on my oak kitchen cabinets. Can the doors be retrofitted with inside hinges ? Is this possible?  Or do I need to replace the doors?

A: Here is a step by step guide. The hinges are pricey and it will be a pretty big project but if you like your doors except for the hinges this is a nice upgrade. If you're not in love with your doors consider ordering doors that are prebored online.

**Q: Kitchen Dilemma** *(in Design Dilemma)*

How can I make this kitchen more appealing? All new cabinets or can I salvage these? The cabinets are very grainy and I think if they were stained or painted the grainy wood would show underneath. Wall color is light mocha. If cabinets are replaced, what would go well with the granite countertop and backsplash behind the stove? As little work as possible would be great because we may be planning to sell in a few years. Hardwood floors are cherry-colored as is the rest of the house. What I hate most is that the kitchen contains top to bottom wood - like I'm in a cabin. Help please? Would appreciate all ideas!

A: \- paint the cabinets some shade of white. bring a sample of the backsplash and counter to a quality paint store and ask for recommendations. 
\- move the handles for the doors onto the door frame. I've never seen what you have now. big red flag for buyers.
-cabinet above expresso maker needs to be removed. open shelves or find a matching cabinet anything would be more useful than those. 
\- if you want to go further and the cabinets are in good shape reface them and hang new doors

We are attempting to update a panel bookcase with paint and new doors are ordered. Our dilemma is this Formica top. The case is built right on top of this. What can we use to cover and update this?

A: they make paint products to change countertops or glue on wood veneer.

**Q: I love the simplicity of the crown molding.  Is there a name for it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I'm sure it has a proper name but if you google "shaker crown molding" you can find what you are looking for. if you have high ceilings and a modest budget you can get a similar look with two strips of small molding; one at the ceiling and the other a couple of inches below then paint the moldings and the wall in between the same color.
