Tyler Karu is a Portland, Maine based designer, specializing in renovations, interior reinventions, and custom buildings. 

 Tyler works with clients to create their ideal living space through renovation, re-imagination and innovative design. In addition to design projects, we have extensive experience in residential construction. This allows us to offer unique real estate development opportunities, ranging from property remodels to new construction.

As the daughter of a real estate developer and a residential designer, Tyler grew up in the family business. She could read blueprints before she hit her teens and made job sites her playground. Although she majored in literature at The George Washington University, she went on to study interior design and architecture at the New York School of Interior Design. Her years in Manhattan infused her education and process with a pace and vibrancy that her work reflects to this day.

Tyler’s career began in earnest when she moved back to Maine and flipped a tiny, neglected cottage, the first of many properties she has taken from derelict to delightful. With her unerring eye for skillful, creative, and cost effective transformation, she has gained national recognition as an emerging commercial and residential design talent.

Tyler has the unmatched ability to reimagine the potential in a neglected home or reveal the true personality of a space not yet quite sure of itself. She is a regular contributor at MarthStewart.com.

She is very easy to work with and I would recommend her to anyone building a house or remodeling their home. She has an in depth understanding of the construction process and that knowledge allows her to stay within your budget and meet all the timelines throughout the building process. She works hard to understand your style and incorporate pieces that reflect who you are and what will work in your home. If I were to ever build another home I would contact Tyler before I even looked at plans to come up with design ideas before the building process even starts! She is fantastic and I highly recommend her.
