> We used Cedar and Sage for one of the largest remodels of our time as home owners. We remodeled the entire upstairs of our home (primary entry, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry, and powder bath). Hayley did an exceptional job of listening to our design goals and our likes/dislikes and created an amazing floor plan for the open space we now get to enjoy. We encountered a few issues during demo that altered the original plan and she didn't hesitate to jump in and help with the solution. Her approach to design planning is completely tailored to the customer's needs. We are so impressed with her professionalism and eye for timeless design (if you want something wild she loves that too!). We have more spaces to remodel and won't hesitate to contact Cedar and Sage Design when that time come. Thanks Hayley, you are the BEST!!

> Working with Hayley was an all around delightful. Hayley has a lovely aesthetic and has wonderful intuition: she has the uncanny ability to understand what look her clients are going for even if they aren't quite sure! She provides endless options, quick follow up, and is extremely responsive. Hayley helped us with a mudroom/powder room, family room, and entry way remodel. She also assisted in staging/accessorizing some of our bookshelves and cabinets (we have a large bank of glass cabinetry along a wall of our kitchen). Hayley also is excellent in providing a variety of price points and options: she understands that quality items can be sourced at any budget- which is always appreciated! I can't wait to have her back to tackle some of my other home projects.

**Comment from Cedar + Sage Design:**

> Thank you so much! It was an absolute pleasure working with you!!

> Hayley helped design both our master bedroom and nursery. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. She took the time to understand our style and what we were looking for and was flexible with my feedback. Since my projects occurred mid-pandemic, she also was great about providing alternatives when there was issues with availability. Hayley also has different packages that are flexible with your needs. For our master, we were basically starting from scratch with the exception of a family made dresser, and Hayley chose all of the furniture and accessories based on our style. For our nursery, I had most of the furniture and even some accessories and art work that I wanted to incorporate from our first child. Hayley took these pieces, added some new accessories, chose paint colors, and designed it in a way that I would never have thought of but absolutely love!

**Comment from Cedar + Sage Design:**

> Thank you so much for choosing me as your designer! It was such a fun project to work on. I loved incorporating your sentimental pieces into your home to really let your personality shine through. Thanks again!

> Hayley was the designer for both my loft and for some additional design elements in my great room as well. After working with her over the last month, I have to say she is amazing! First of all, she is passionate and excited about what she does. Secondly, she was readily available for questions throughout this process. Which was very much appreciated with both me being in another state and due to my heavy work schedule, having to often communicate on weekends. Last but not least, I couldn't be more pleased with the way both projects came out looking! She had wonderful ideas, yet really incorporated my style, personality, and input into them as well. She was a pleasure to work with and I already have her locked down for my basement renovation project in the fall!
> I'm typically not a big review writer, but in this case felt it necessary.
> Thanks Hayley!!!

> Understanding the person and what they value is something that not everyone gets, and Hayley has that gift. She was not afraid of subtly weaving bold and complementary colors together to create a cohesive flow throughout our two story home with cathedral ceilings. There is a lot of space and we were at a loss of what direction to go. Haley was comfortable with the size and choosing colors. I have to confess that when we saw those first colors applied in the living room and entry way we wondered for a bit, however after the paint dried we saw her plan: It shows off our furniture beautifully, complements the warm wood, and has beautiful tone changes throughout the day and evening. Haley is a delight to work with, a part of that is being able to listen and truly hear the client to help them determine style and direction.

## Community Q&A

**Q: need help with wood flooring** *(in Flooring)*

Two years ago we installed 2 1/4” solid wood flooring in our living room, this flooring matched our existing flooring that was put in the house when it was built 19 years ago almost perfectly. Now we want to tear out our entryway tile and finish with the same wood, the problem is, we cannot get the same flooring in the same width! We can get it in the exact same color but the width is 3 1/4” wide now! I’ve been looking at several pictures of rooms that have different width wood as well as different colors in room. Not sure I’m ok with any of it! If we decide to go with the wider wood because the color matches so well, should we lay the wood the same direction as the living room and put some kind of transition in the openings between the two? Or would it be better to lay the new wider flooring perpendicular to the existing flooring? Not sure what if any are the rules and which would be more appealing to look at?
I’ve attached a couple pictures sowing the existing flooring and where it would meet up with the new flooring,

A: The wood flooring is best to be matched, or you could choose a different type of flooring completely. Even with a transition, the two widths will look strange. You could select a new and updated tile. It looks like with some more research you may be able to find a match. Here's a link to a potential match.

**Q: Coffe table with seating underneath** *(in Home Decorating)*

Some time ago I spotted the ideal square stone and metal coffee table that had seats below it in a photo on this site. Have tried to find it so I can try and locate one but to no avail. Any ideas on such a table would be greatly appreciated!

A: This is most likely not exactly what you had found, but is a nice alternative. https://www.hayneedle.com/product/belham-living-nova-nesting-bench-and-cubes.cfm?source=pla&kwid=IndoorBenches%20iprefer&tid=REDU074-1&adtype=pla&kw=&lsft=adtype:pla&gclid=CjwKCAjwj4zaBRABEiwA0xwsP7vqMbqOUnd\_LvfB8KN75gQ6w4G2XnfEwARUrfu3EvMLB4r29sv-PxoCsD0QAvD\_BwE

Something like this image would also work with pouffs placed beneath for seating.

**Q: Need Help with Narrow Living/Dining Room Combo** *(in Home Decorating)*

We have a room that according to our floor plan is listed as a Family Room/Great Room that is 11x25. We planned on making this our primary living room and formal dining room since our kitchen with a breakfast nook is open adjacent to it. We have a sectional sofa that we thought about using to define the spaces, but I worry its size is going to make the room feel cramped when we try and put in an entertainment center and dining room table.

How would you recommend decorating this space? It’s the first room you see when you walk in the house and is directly open beside the front door.

A: It's important to use furniture that is appropriate to the size of the space. A sectional sofa would most likely feel a bit overwhelming. I would place a sofa on the wall with an accent chair or two, depending on size, to create a bit of a division. Also, using mirrors can help make the space feel larger. I'd also use low profile chairs like below to keep unobstructed views throughout the space. Area rugs will also help to define each space.

**Q: Which chair for the corner?** *(in Home Decorating)*

I want to reupholster a chair for the corner. Any ideas on which chair and possible colors to reupholster? This is our bonus room and the kids game room.

A: I agree with Jamie. Reupholstering is very expensive or if you do it yourself it can be quite a nightmare (trust me)! My vote would be to invest in a new chair. It's also a great place to add some interesting pattern or pop of color. You could do something like this:

**Q: Which style of lamp for this corner** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need to pick a lamp for behind the chair (needs to be moved in a little). The media cabinet also needs to be centered on the wall (moved to the right in the photo).
Style-wise, I am drawn to this:
But maybe I need to soften the look with a shade....maybe like this:

Which one would look better? (Obviously I still have much to do with the room....) Thanks!

A: I would choose a lamp like the one below and put it between the two sofas with these side tables, add a coffee table and a tall plant behind the armchair. An area rug would also be nice with an updated TV console/ storage area as well.
