The project took 9 months to truly complete and communication was always initiated by us. **★★★★★ — Robert Kalinowsky, April 2019** > Why did we choose them for our kitchen and master bath remodel and what did we get? > > 1\) Professional Visual Design - We took bids from several contractors. Most that gave us any confidence that they would show up to work after they took their deposit and could competently execute the work didn’t give us plan we could see in a 3D model with customizable views. Kate Couchman worked with us tirelessly, first coming up with a dozen possible floorplans to meet our functional needs then in choosing the materials that would complete the aesthetics. It took a few weeks of appointments but we custom-designed every drawer, appliance, tile arrangement, and light fixture. Every other contractor interviewed gave us a sketch or two, but I’m not tearing down my abode on a sketch and a prayer. With NDK we got to see a realistic model before we committed. > > 2\) Materials - Another key feature was that once we had everything selected, Olivia Kwon made sure that all of the materials were purchased and delivered to our home in time for the project. Most contractors who bid our job included (for roughly similar labor quotes) the dreaded “Customer will provide all required materials”. Umm... so... does anyone have any idea how stressful it would be to have to track down and buy guesstimates of the proper quantities of tile, flooring, fixtures, etc? Don’t underestimate this task when you’re signing up for labor-only contractors. > > 3\) Quality Work - NDK hires well-known subs with good reputations to perform the work. Sure, you’re paying for the “pass-thru” but I guess I’d rather pay for someone who’s worked in the area for 30 years with lots of references and a trail of great work on Houzz than some random from Yelp (let’s be real here - these are 5-figure and 6-figure projects). > > 4\) Schedule - Ever hire a contractor who doesn’t show up to work, leaves your house a mess, and doesn’t give you a clue as to when or if they will finish? NDK gives a clear schedule at the outset of the job and sticks to it. You can see measurable progress each day and feel confident that the work will be done as promised without price or schedule overruns. > > I suppose it’s patently unfair to rate a company high or low based on your own expectations of value. Again we aren’t all able to do it ourselves. I tend to rate based on my experience and how I was treated. NDK treated us well. They provided a level of handholding I couldn’t find anywhere else in the one job I wanted to feel comfortable getting help on. We had a completed design before work started, a firm schedule of major milestones, all the materials purchased and delivered for us, and excellent communication with the design and construction team through the process. Our dated kitchen was in dire need of a complete overhaul and I was thrilled to discover Nicely Done Kitchens. I had interviewed another kitchen remodel company, but was disappointed with the boring design they proposed not to mention how high the quote was. After meeting with Kate (a designer at Nicely Done Kitchens), I knew I had found the company I wanted to work with. Kate is nothing short of AMAZING! Not only does she have an incredible eye for design, she is a lot of fun to work with. She spent a lot of time during our initial meeting asking questions to better understand how we wanted our new kitchen to function. Based on our meeting, I was excited for our next appointment to see what she would come up with. The overall design Kate proposed exceeded my expectations! Everything from the cabinetry, countertops, to the finishes she proposed were exactly "my style." Without a doubt, she designed my dream kitchen. After signing the contract and before the work was to begin, Kate met with me many times to finalize the plan and to make sure everything was perfect. She was extremely patient when I started to second guess my countertop selection and even met with me at the fabricator's shop to relook at every quartz sample they had. I am forever grateful that I ultimately went with Kate's original counter recommendation -- it looks fantastic. As with any remodeling project, there were a few hiccups once construction began, but Kate along with Olivia (the project manager), and Steve (the general contractor assigned to my project) were always on top of things. Steve is a very professional and knowledgeable general contractor with years of experience. He and his skilled crew did a great job. When many of these contractors return our calls, we feel as if we are just another work order and have not seen pride in their work.
