> Claxton Fireplace built a fireplace mantel and installed the tile around the mantel.  The service was excellent, despite the number of times I changed my mind about the tileand the mantel design.  Finally picked a tile and it was discontinued, then chose another tile, it arrived Claxton came to install and it there was not enough of the right pieces.  Through it all they were polite and told me no apologies were necessary their goal was to make sure that my investment brought me the satisfacton I needed so I could enjoy the fireplace.  I actually saved for a couple years to pay for the mantel and tile so it meant a lot to me to have it done right.  I have been in my house for 9 years and had never used the fireplace, so in addition they had to show me how to operate the system.  I would recommend Claxton to anyone looking for this type of EXCELLENT service.  Cheryl

**Q: i like the idea of placing a plasma on top of the fireplace, my worry is doesn't the fire affect things placed** *(in Photo Questions)*

fire has smoke and I feel it might ruin the tv, pictures and flowers placed next to the fireplace. Plase advise me on that, I really like the idea since it saves space, no need to buy the units for plasma, books and other things. You just make a built in in one place and you can also put your sound system in the units without displaying so many speakers outside the units.

This is what we've been calling the Jenga Fireplace. 1968 original brick fireplace with odd stepped out brick on top. Painted it gray for a temp fix, then the final project last week. We covered the brick in different size pieces of poplar, some jut out in the stacked wood puzzle. Made a concrete slab for hearth and then used one wide board of poplar on bottom surround.

A: It does look good, there is no denying that but it's a good way to burn your house down and cause property damage and/or hurt somebody in the process.  Check any version of the NFPA 211 (link below) and you will see that the National Fireplace Code does not allow combustibles of any kind to be that close a masonry wood burning fireplace or factory built wood burning fireplace (even if there is non-combustibles behind it, it doesn't change the fact that it is combustible).  Even if you are burning gas logs in it, it does not change the fact that the firebox is a wood burning appliance and has to be treated as one.  Even if you know that you shouldn't burn in it and are just using it for looks, no inspector will pass it when you go to sell it and the next owner might burn in it when they figure out that it is a wood burning fireplace.  It's always a good idea to consult a trusted professional in your area first before tackling a project like this, for safety reasons and ultimately it could save you lots of money in the long run.  Happy burning, always be safe!
