They could not deliver the countertop even 3 weeks after the measurement as their supplier didn't have it in stock, and they could not even give us a timeframe for when it will be in stock. So we asked to give our deposit back. At this point, they said they will deduct 30% from the deposit as a contract cancellation fee! and refused to give our full deposit back or give a timeframe of when they will be able to install the countertop. We were so shocked by this response and were totally in disbelief that the company could do this and act with such dishonesty. This is a brick-and-mortar store with several years of business, maybe they are under new ownership, otherwise, I am not sure how they could survive with such bad business practices. > Fortunately, we paid using a credit card. Our credit card company was able to dispute the charges on our behalf. But we had to go thru a lot of stress and paperwork just because we had $5,500 at risk (70% deposit) and our kitchen remodeling project was stuck incurring us additional contractor expenses. > > Please be careful working with this company. If you do decide to work, please ensure you modify the contract with a clause that gets your deposit back if the company is unable to provide the service within the acceptable timeframe. Their current contract has no such protection for customers. And from our experience, we can tell that Granite Works will not act ethically in difficult situations. Also, always use a credit card for payments as it provides additional safety and protection for the customers in such situations. **Comment from Granite Works Countertops:** > We are sorry for the difficult experience you incurred while renovating your home. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and integrity. In your instance, we informed you of the material delay by the supplier due to the defect in the initial slabs you selected. You mentioned you were under a great deal of stress from another contractor working in your home and wanted the material right away. We also informed you that installation would be within 7-10 business days from measurement and we don’t have control over material delays by supplier as in your case. Despite this, we prioritized your order and sent transportation to another state at no additional charge to pick up material to expedite your project thus finishing your project within 1 business day of material arrival. Our team worked above and beyond to find a solution for you, even giving you a 10% discount for an issue we had no control over. > > We empathize that this may have been a stressful time doing a home renovation for the first time but we are pleased that you had no issues with the quality of our workmanship or countertop installation. We are glad that our team was transparent from the beginning about the issue, cost and worked with you to find an acceptable solution. A Bruno emailed me and called it a "misunderstanding" offering $125. instead or refund. I felt this was a slap in the face and asked to speak to a Manger. This is not good customer service, this is not "working with the customer" currently they are touting old good customer comments. **Comment from Granite Works Countertops:** > Mrs Faville, its been almost two months since we have decided to not extend our services to you and I guess that at this point there is nothing I can do but only wish you the best and hope that you have find, by now, the right company to do your project. > > To our followers and future customers, please read below our very first answer to Mrs. Faville explaining why we've decided to refund her money and not extend our services to her. > > 5/13/2015 "Let me begin by saying that it is very unfortunate that Mrs. Faville feels this way; we tried very hard to work with her, but unfortunately the disrespect shown towards our staff was a tipping factor on our decision not to extend our services to her. She came in to purchase counter tops with a "discount" of 10% off the total ticket amount, supposedly given to her by a company with whom we no longer have ties nor have authorized such discounts to be given out by. Despite of the fact that we had no obligation to extend this "discount" to her, we still offered her a discount because we value our customers and want their business; however, as she stated, it was not enough for her. During the negotiation process, she addressed our staff in a condescending manner (to say the least) while stating that the reason why we did not have good customer service was because we did not extended her the discount she expected. She also mentioned that we were not the first company she tried purchasing her countertops from and that she had issues in the process before.
