> Unique Environments renovated our theater room including the installation of a wall mounted B&O TV and a 7.1 speaker system. This included beefing up the wall structure and making sure all cabling was ready for the new equipment. Preparations for the delivery were completed on time and they coordinated the delivery and wall mount installation of the equipment. We are very pleased with the new space. Dave's attention to detail is top notch. We have no qualms with letting Unique Environments work on our home while we are not there. We are looking forward to working with them on our kitchen next.

> We asked Dave to help us renovate and expand our kitchen. He spent time talking with us to help give him an idea of our lifestyle and how we wanted to use it. He came up with a design that was both functional and stylish. When it came time to do the renovation, his objective was to create the least amount of impact on our daily routines. Every facet of the renovation was planned meticulously. His team was comprised of experts; the plumbers, the electricians, and the carpenters. There is no doubt that we would recommend Unique Environments to a friend. Their quality of work was worth every penny.

> I began working with Unique Environments in the fall of 2011 for a kitchen remodel; the kitchen was totally demolished and a new floor plan created with beautiful functionality and aesthetic appeal. The job was done so well that this company also updated a powder room and wet bar. More recently, 2014-15, they updated a guest bath and remodeled a laundry room, which is the prettiest laundry room ever! What I like best in working with Unique Environments is the trust in knowing that measurements are precise to produce symmetry and clean lines, that I can be involved in the design process, and that I can trust the staff in my home if I am not there, and certainly, that I can count on the results to be awesome.

> Unique Environments did a wonderful job on a full kitchen remodel. Our home was built in 1938. The kitchen had been remodeled 1969. Dave Perry dealt swiftly with surprises lurking in the wall. Photos of our kitchen are posted on Houzz under Unique Environments. We ended up having a great design. He is thoughtful and detailed in design decisions. Our next project together will be a master bathroom, again a full remodel. Look forward to seeing photos posted in the near future.

> This is the company to use to create your DREAM KITCHEN .The process started with our discussions about what we need and wanted. David Perry turned this into a computer generated 3 d picture of what we could expect it to look like and then created a budget that allowed us to know what the project would cost, and proceeded to do exactly what we agreed to and more.
>
> David is amazingly creative and knowledgeable and very easy to work with.
>
> We are thrilled with the outcome and consider it the best investment we have made in our house.
> I highly recommend Unique Environments and was more then pleased with the results they achieved.

> We couldn't be more pleased with the renovation of our kitchen by Dave Perry at Unique Environments-- from the design to the meticulous installation of our Leicht cabinets. It transformed our entire downstairs floor. Additionally, Dave works in a timely manner so our lives were disrupted only in a minor, and well worth it, way.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Finished Crown Molding End** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking to see if we have finished this crown molding properly. It there a right/wrong way, or just by taste? The top crown piece jets out just a tad from the wall, see circled areas. Is this the right way to end this area? Don't mind the sheet beliw it. It still needs a finishing piece over the seam.

A: Given what you have to work with, it is as correct as it can be. It was just a small missed detail that didn't allow for the dimension of the crown. If it really bothers you, I would close the width of the wall opening the distance of the current crown overhang and replace the crown so it butts flat against the wall. It will require a bit of sheetrock work and some additional crown.

**Q: Should I remove the wall or should I make it a half wall?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is the wall between my living room and staircase room. The staircase room is a connector to the entrance, living room, kitchen and basement. The wall prevents the light from entering the living room and is somewhat useless. Should I open up the entrance to the living room by removing the entire wall with the the mirror (on the opposite side of the mirror there is a frame - see picture) or should I make it only a half wall (i.e. only the upper portion of the wall would be removed)? Thank you in advance for your advice.

A: It's difficult to get a real sense of the space, but based on what I can see, I would be inclined to open the entire height of the wall to the existing opening height while leaving enough of the width to allow the furniture with the lamp in the third photo to remain. However, opening the full height also presents you with a flooring repair issue where the wall currently exists. That's not too big of a deal if you have, or can get, more flooring. If you don't want to contend with the flooring, then that leaves the half wall option.

**Q: Heated floor for bathroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi, Looking to put heated floors in the master bath. Any suggestions as to best product for heated floors. Looking forward to input. Thanks

A: We're talking about the same product. Schluter is the manufacturer.

**Q: Hardware placement advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm mixing cup pulls, bar pulls and knobs. Do any of these look right? I'm not sure if knobs go on the bottom. Should the corner hardware be the same as the wall hardware? I did tape strips for visual help but I'm still not sure. Ugh!! Any advice would be appreciated.

A: No knobs. Use the smallest handle and don't mix handles and cup pulls.

**Q: Who, please, makes the range/ovens combo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: AGA is the manufacturer of the hood and oven

**Q: Hood over convection range?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're putting a 30" Samsung induction range in our new kitchen and I'm trying to decide on a SS chimney-style hood to mount on the wall over it. A salesman suggested the Zephyr Siena (non-ES rated), but I wanted to see if there are any others that people are choosing to put over their ranges. I love to cook and do so frequently, though nothing that involves super high heat for searing and I don't fry things in fats/oils, if that's a consideration. Looking for something less than $1k with baffle filters, maybe some lighting (LED?), and relatively quiet since my toddler is a light sleeper. Any other suggestions or things we should consider? Thanks!

A: This style hood tends to be expensive no matter the brand. If you want quiet, no matter the style, the best option is the remote in-line blower. The higher the CFM (cubic feet per minute) the better. There are virtually no considerations for the induction cooktop as it doesn't generate excessive heat. It's really about removing steam and odors from the kitchen and not so much grease in your case. Choose what you like and can afford.
