**★★★★★ — JT BUILDERS, INC, Dec. 2016**

> This firm produces some of the most comprehensive, detailed sets of plans I have ever worked off of. This saves everyone time and money! They have great knowledge of energy efficient design/construction techniques and are very easy to work with. I would recommend giving Clark and Chapin Architects a chance to show you their skills!

**★★★★★ — Paul & Tara V., Oct. 2016**

> Matt did an excellent job designing our home! He created a beautiful set of house plans, and was very efficient with the use of space and kept our project within our budget.

> We worked with Dustin Chapin from Clark & Chapin on the extensive remodel of our 1914 Seattle home. The project included lifting the house, relocating the interior stairs and a complete update of all interior spaces. Dustin was easy to work with, and stayed on schedule and budget throughout the project. In terms of the design, he did a masterful job blending the traditional look and feel of our home with more modern and unique elements.
>
> Beyond the design phase, our general contractor found him to be readily available if he had any questions about the drawings and design. Dustin continued to check in with us throughout the building phase to make sure the aesthetic of the house that we had worked together to design was taking shape.
>
> Dustin was a trusted partner and made what is generally a very stressful process easy for us to navigate. We would highly recommend Dustin and Clark & Chapin to friends and family.

**★★★★★ — Bill Stanley, March 2016**

> Working with Matt Clark has been a positive experience that makes writing this recommendation a real pleasure. As well as being an affable, communicative person, Matt is a highly skilled, innovative, creative and affordable professional. What we liked most was the way Matt really listened to our needs and made great recommendations -- things that had not occurred to us, but have made us even more excited about our major renovation project. Matt puts in extra effort and provides a quick turn-around. I heartily recommend you call him, if you are looking for an architect that will add beauty, efficiency and ease to your life, for an affordable price.

> My wife and I discovered Matthew Clark by accident when, hiring an architect to design a house and aircraft hangar for our piece of land in Southwestern Colorado, we took little notice of his young associate. That young associate turned out to be Matt and Matt turned out to be a superstar. Over a four year period we worked with Matt to design and build a home that we have lived in for the past seven years that is both aesthetically superb (even if we do say so ourselves) and very functional. Through all the process, including the inevitable challenges, Matt was a pleasure to work with. He is a first class person with exceptional talent. We would most enthusiastically recommend him.

**Comment from Clark & Chapin Architects:**

> Thanks so much for the review Tom and Rosalind, much appreciated! You are fantastic clients and friends, and working on your house was one of the best collaborative processes we've been a part of.

**★★★★★ — Gardner Catsman, Dec. 2015**

> Clark & Chapin Architects Are highly recommended! Creative design... style, we love our home. Some lady tried to buy it yesterday, and many people stop and admire it. people keep wanting tours... its amazing how people love it. it is probably one of the peoples favorite houses in durango. If you need creative style on difficult projects Clark and Chapin!

**★★★★★ — Ben Berman, Dec. 2015**

> It is an absolute pleasure working with Clark & Chapin. I am a general contractor and I assisted my clients during their design professional review process. We met with numerous architects, many of whom had great ideas, experience, or fit within the budget. That said, only Clark and Chapin were able to accomplish all three.
>
> Fast forward 2 months after breaking ground on our significant Seattle rebuild. The colloboration with Clark and Chapin is exceptional. The builder (me) and the clients are both ecstatic with the level of service they have received.
>
> As a builder one of my prinary frustrations with most projects is the lack of details in drawings and design decisions I have to make onsite/in the field because the architect and the structural engineer make many assumptions without fully understanding the structure. Dustin (one of the principals) spent enough time in the beginning to make sure Clark and Chapin had extremely accurate dimensions, provided updated drawings as the project progressed and ALWAYS answers the phone/emails or returns calls quickly thereafter.
>
> I've been able to connect other new clients with Clark and Chapin and have consistently received the same positive feedback. What a great team!

  - Description: Stone, brick, mortar, plaster - the original materials of this late 19th century home reflect its roots in traditional craftsmanship. Accordingly, craftsmanship became the point of departure for designing an addition. The homeowner's award-winning skills as a professional woodworker are imbued in the interior details, the custom constructed doors and windows, and extend outdoors to the reclaimed barn wood siding. Craftsmanship speaks throughout the home and remains central to the building's stor…

  - Description: This house evolved from explorations into a deep and honest engagement with it’s environment. Sited in a gently rolling pasture, it is bordered on one side by the plateaus of Mesa Verde and on the other by the peaks of the LaPlata mountains. The house reaches out toward these landscapes, delicately balancing the need for shelter and intimate spaces with the desire for pulling in light, views, and terrain from multiple vantage points. These considerations, along with the client's love of art, coo…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Fireplace** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the brand of the fireplace?

A: Hi, it is a Rais with a custom steel surround and wood box.

**Q: Window Film** *(in Photo Questions)*

Facing west, the sun must be intense. Do the windows have a film on them?

A: This photo is looking NE. The house's West facing windows do have a different coating designed to minimize solar heat gain, as well as roller shades, and the windows at the South courtyard are shaded by a calculated overhang. Most of the glazing is triple pane to minimize heat loss as well. Thanks for inquiring.

**Q: What are the countertops? Thickness? Scratch and stain safe?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: They are a laminate and were provided by Bulthaup, as were the cabinets. They are highly resistant to heat and wear. Thanks for inquiring.

**Q: what wood is the floor?** *(in Photo Questions)*

is that heart pine?

A: It's actually clear vertical grain (vg) douglas fir. The same was used on the ceiling in the living room (background in the photo) and the Loewen windows.

**Q: Where can I get the red chair?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi pfortuno, the chair is the Womb Chair by Eero Saarinen. There is some great history on the Knoll website - http://www.knoll.com/product/womb-chair

**Q: How many people live in the house** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It is a house for a couple with frequent extended family and friends visiting so it varies all the time.
