He knows his stuff as much through a family tradition and experience as through education. If he does not know something, he will say so and then research an answer for you. If one of his teams makes a mistake, he makes it right at no cost to the customer, and he does not try to minimize the issue. I have stuck with him for several years of various tree plantings and pruning for these reasons. Also, one should only use an arborist and specialized tree service for trees and he charges reasonable prices for that work. Regular gardeners may be cheaper but they are notoriously poor at understanding and managing plants that are more than 4 feet high, and they usually do not have the Workers Comp classification for tree trimming work to begin with (high off the ground work = higher workers comp risk categorization). All that said, his teams have been somewhat erratic in the quality of their work when he is not around. In our case, the first stakes they used to hold up a couple of new trees were not pounded far enough into the ground, leading to a damaged tree in the wind storms last year (nothing could withstand the rain and wind this year). He made any mistakes right as soon as he knew about them. Just stay in touch with him.
