One was the renovation of a split hall American colonial revival style home of approximately 4,500 SQFT built in the 1980s and the second, a 3,500 SQFT custom new build Spanish colonial revival reminiscent of the 1920s. The homes were very different projects and while we wanted to honor the architecture of each, we also wanted them to feel like us. Carl quickly understood and easily incorporated our unique style into both homes while keeping his design true to the homes’ period roots. For the first home, we were on a strict budget and we renovated four rooms with Carl’s guidance and expertise. For the second home, 15 years later, we had a more generous budget and it was a whole home design except for the bathrooms and kitchen design which had been completed before Carl came aboard. In both projects, Carl was respectful of our budget and guided us to design choices that matched both our taste and the bottom line. His hallmark is the use of color and composition, integrating new and existing artwork, vintage and antique furnishings with new pieces. He blends period details with a modern flair. He introduces texture in both subtle and bold ways creating unexpected, beautiful and peaceful spaces.
