> Working with Theresa through our renovation project has been a gift. Theresa has a great eye, wonderful ideas and resources, is an excellent listener and lots of fun too. Great attributes for a design partner when faced with overwhelming choices and sticky situations.

> I couldn't recommend Theresa more highly. She is a gem:)

**Comment from TJG Design Studio:**

> Thankyou so much Carolyn. The end result in your home is so lovely and I was thrilled to check off all the boxes on your to-do list of what you wanted to accomplish!

> Theresa Gilker is the best. We have used Theresa on a number of home decorating projects including a new cabin build which required all new furnishings and paint selections, redecorating a beautiful master bedroom/ensuite, and most recently complete new paint and flooring on our main floor (hardwood) and upstairs (carpet), along with powder room and lighting updates. Theresa's ability to work with the homeowner's vision while still bringing fresh, current ideas to the table is satisfying and comforting for those of us who don't know where to begin! Theresa has a keen attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities. Projects get done timely and within budget, and she is a wonderful communicator. Anyone fortunate enough to work with Theresa's talents will be very happy with her AND the results.

> Theresa goes above and beyond and has such wonderful cost effective options for designing and decorating your home. We love our space!

> Just a great designer, very knowledgeable and fun to work with. Theresa designed my basement reno and worked on the project throughout construction. I could not have done it without her. I just love the results.

**★★★★★ — Susan Lawson, March 2016**

> Working with TJG was an absolute pleasure. Terry was professional and complete and had some great ideas that turned some difficult spaces into absolute winners. Her onsite presence and attention to detail saved us from a true fiasco when the tile that was delivered for our reno was not the once we had chosen. We were out of town at the time and Terry caught the mistake before the tile was installed. Whew! I would have no hesitation in recommending TJG to anyone.

> Theresa is a wonderful designer. She was extremely flexible, knowledgeable and current with respect to trends and deals. Theresa has made partners with a number of stores in the city (Crate & Barrel and Cricklewood to name just a couple); partnerships that allowed staff at these stores to work with us even if we were there without her. Theresa helped us transform our main floor into a modern and welcoming space. We would recommend Theresa to be your designer!

**Comment from TJG Design Studio:**

> Thankyou for the kind words and for trusting me to bring great design to your space!

**★★★★★ — jenny53669, Nov. 2013**

> As another designer it was a real privelege to work with Theresa. I love her ability to take a space and transform it regardless the budget or size of project. Her attention to detail is incredible and she is will not stop until the client is completely satisfied. I love how she can listen to a clients needs and go beyond to meet their expectations. Theresa was areal team player as well, a real asset to have on the design team, a wonderful person to work with!

> The level of service and knowledge was excellent. Theresa was able to provide cost effective and wonderful decorating options and my home looks fantastic. Not only did she do a great job she ALWAYS delivered on time and on budget...thanks!!!

**★★★★★ — hedwardsmd, June 2013**

> Theresa was wonderful. She helped me with house color, furniture, and fabric selection, in the design or our newly built house. She easily recognized my style, and accentuated it.. She was non intrusive, and was not overbearing. She really was a pleasure, and made my house beautiful, without significant effort on my part.

**★★★★★ — fayecrooks, June 2013**

> We hired TJG Design Studio to help us "refresh" our kitchen. We wanted to work with existing cabinetry but have a more modern, contemporary look. After a thorough discussion of our wants and needs, TJG Design Studio provided us with a design "concept" for our kitchen that achieved all that we wanted. They also helped us secure excellent contractors who performed the work on time and on budget. We are very pleased with the result and look forward to our next project with TJG Design Studio!

**Comment from TJG Design Studio:**

> Thanks so much for the review. Now we need to finish our after photos! TJG

**★★★★★ — Becky Monroe, May 2013**

> Hiring TJG Design saved us from making costly mistakes on the renovations we were considering for our home. Theresa is pleasant to work with and knows her business well. She provided us a written recommendation of the changes she suggested for our home which was valuable as it was something I referred to time and time again when making our purchases. By hiring TJG Design, I believe we actually saved money!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Fireplace help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are buying a new house and this is the family room. I'm thinking about whitewashing the brick but I'm concerned it will just look pink. Any input on that? And if we do leave the brick as is should we make that an accent wall and what color should it be? We have a neutral sectional we will be using and I am open to any color decor ideas. Thank you!

A: I would definitely either paint out the brick if your style is more transitional, or replace the brick with a larger format 12"x24" tile in a colour that works with your overall colour palette, if you want me contemporary. The mantel should be replaced with either the barnwood idea mentioned for more relaxed look or add a clean steel one for contemporary, or no mantel at all. If you like some of the warmer griege/grey colours that are more popular now, this tile might be nice -placing in a vertical direction gives more height to the room. A large scale painting in similar size to the window on the left will balance the space nicely. Large area carpet 8'x10' ( don't skimp on size).

**Q: How do I update this exterior?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm purchasing a new home and although they've redone the inside in a very beautiful modern feel, the exterior is still stuck in the 80's. I don't particularly want to replace the roof as that's a large cost and the roof is only a year old. However, everything else about the exterior is up for grabs as it's all just too much for me! I appreciate any ideas!

A: Working with the brown roof colour I would paint the brick a cream colour and choose a warm taupe for the garage and facade -then the window trim all in a soft off white. I agree get rid of the large cedar and hedge and do some more interesting plantings, curving around the front window to add some interest. Even a patio out the front extending from the front door with some large rockers in a hunter green

**Q: Bathroom help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi Houzz friends. We recently remodeled our bathroom and I'm very happy with it overall, BUT something is just not right and I can't put my finger on it. I'm open to anything you think would give it that "finishing touch." Is the paint color not right for this space? The tile is beautiful, but more busy than I had hoped. I really appreciate ANY advice because I'm stuck. Thanks so much!

A: It's the paint. I like the grey that acm sent you... Or BM Amherst grey,... I think Kendall charcoal would be too dark, revere pewter would be too green/ grey or the last comment BM Chelsea grey would be lovely. Do some testers first. What we see in photos can be drastically different in your light! Beautiful bathroom. I love the addition of organic touches in a wood bench in the shower for toiletries, nubby white bath mat, loofah sponges, textured ceramic vases on the counter....

**Q: Cabinets not matching crown molding** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have new white cabinets in our bathroom and we decided not to change the color of the crown molding (which we have throughout the entire house) I think it looks OK in our bathroom but now I'm second-guessing myself. We are going to do a similar cabinet replacement our open kitchen. I want to make sure this look works.

A: Alternatively, leave the crown and paint the cabinets a different colour altogether -pick one of the darker colours in the granite specs or darker shade of the tile in the shower

**Q: Can you tell me the name of this backsplash?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I can not remember the name of this tile but I believe it is from Euro tile

**Q: Experience w Blanco Silgranit sinks?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Considering ordering one, probably in white. Do you have one or have you used or considered one? Feedback please!?

Thank you!!!

A: I had a black siligranit sink for six years until we moved. They are great and are antibacterial. Held up super well. I did however get a small white ring just before selling :( Not sure if it was from heat or a cleaner. But would still recommend. TJG Design Studio
