The lot we chose was small and very challenging with several variances needed from the city to construct even a small house. In addition, there were several neighbors who were against construction of any type on the lot. Gonyea management and designers worked with the city to meet the requirements of the building code as well as the required mitigation of tree loss to secure the building permit. > > The construction side of the project was equally impressive. We lived in Oregon and could not be present to watch the construction. The construction manager took over all aspects of the work from the efficient scheduling of the sub contractors and supplies to working the with city on meeting the project requirements. They also met with the neighbors to address their concerns during the construction. Since Gonyea only uses a specific list of sub contractors, the work was done in a timely/quality manner and fit and finish was excellent. > > We honestly believe this project would not have been possible with anyone else but Gonyea Custom Homes. It was one of bad decisions of my life, glad I was able to get out in the middle of the process. Unqualified architect that is capable of designing only one style of home and did not even whether the house was lookout or walkout until 6 months into design. Their sales guy started designing the house when we complained and acknowledged all the issues, but in the end when we wanted out changed his tune. Their custom home process is not a custom home process, it is a cookie cutter home process. They make decisions for you and do not even have the courtesy of informing you. They are not professionals and will play the blame game that you have to defend with emails. Save yourselves headaches and months of drawn out back with forth that does not meet what you want in the end. Initially, I was concerned with working with a firm that built so many houses. We were concerned that our home would not be truly custom and that Gonyea Homes would not be able to capture the vision we had for our home. They owned the lot we wanted, so we decided to move forward with design and see how things went. After our first meeting with Jon Connelly we were excited and hopeful. Then, as we progressed through the architectural design of our home, we really knew we had made the right choice. Jon's advice and guidance was invaluable. He got us thinking about how we wanted our home to function and how spaces could relate to each other. He really steered us away from some ideas that we now know would have been wrong choices in our design/layout. After our design was complete, we met with Tony and went over our pricing. Tony was informative and really took the time to explain costs, educated us on some features in the home, and walked us through our pricing. When we had our first meeting to go over the cost of the home, we both felt a great deal of stress and anxiety. We left the meeting relieved as Tony answered all of our questions and was straightforward. Our purchase agreement signing was streamlined and easy to understand. Tony walked us through our financing options and referred us to a great mortgage banker. Everything he told us checked out when I did my own research. We did all of our selections/design work through Julie. Julie was fantastic! She listened to what we wanted our home to look like and when we showed her our "idea file", which was very different from anything we had seen in Gonyea models, Julie was able to help us pull the look together. Julie made suggestions and had great ideas. Our house turned out great. I contacted Julie and had her help me with furniture purchases as well. Ethan was our on site project manager and coordinated our entire house build. He is a quiet guy, but very responsive and clearly good at what he does. He and Julie talked us off the ledge once during the project when we second guessed some of our decisions. They both assured us that it is not uncommon to have these concerns but to wait and let the house come together. They were spot on! We are so happy we didn't change our original plan. At closing our home had a few unfinished items. One was a backordered light fixture and another was a small crack in our powder room granite. We went ahead and closed because we had to move in. We were not overly concerned about Ethan wrapping up these two final items. They were both wrapped up within a month of our move in, so we were very happy with that. > I was going to write a review about a year ago, but we had been in our house for two months and the response from the Gonyea Warranty department was slow on two items I had as we went into the winter of 2013/2014. I decided to wait until after my 1 year warranty time period to write a review so I could give a really good overall review of our experience. After we had been in the house for about 6 months, and I had felt like there was not a great response on a few warranty items, I received a letter from Gonyea Homes. They apologized for the slow warranty response and said there were making changes to their warranty process to make things run smoother. As we came up to our 1 year warranty walk through, I was concerned about how the service would be. Some of our neighbors had been complaining about slow response on warranty items. After going through our walk through with Dan and Ethan, we had EVERYTHING repaired within 3 weeks, we are thrilled! The warranty group was responsive, timely, and thorough. We have been in our home for 13 months and we are thrilled with the overall experience. We highly recommend Gonyea Homes to everyone we know. The team at Gonyea Homes is very talented.
