We now have a beautiful sunroom and stunning master bathroom and closet that would not have been possible without her. To begin with, Jamie listened more carefully to us than our contractor, architect, and landscaper. She made sure she knew what we wanted and how that fit with our lifestyle. She gave us several creative bathroom and closet designs to choose from. Jamie met the challenge of working with a space that was long and narrow and had three exterior walls (formerly a bedroom). She was committed to working on the details until we were completely satisfied. She welcomed our suggestions and was exceedingly patient with my numerous questions and indecision! Once we settled on a final design, Jamie gave us a full set of plans with elevations for the contractor to use. > > Jamie was extremely helpful in dealing with our contractor and the building process. She was referred to us by a contractor who couldn’t take on our project, but recommended her highly. Jamie gave us very good advice about negotiating and hiring another contractor. In the end, the contractor we chose was excellent with construction but had some old-school design ideas. Although this was frustrating for us, Jamie’s knowledge about construction resolved the problem. She knows everything about how a bathroom comes together, from the bare studs to laying tile to choosing accessories. She explained plumbing to us and how the on-off valve for the shower could be placed on the half wall near the door of our large shower, to turn on the water without stepping inside. Our contractor finally agreed to do this and we love the results! We owe that to Jamie. She was equally skillful at resolving other issues that came up along the way. > > Jamie has an extraordinary eye for color and design elements. Jamie and I went together to choose the granite, three tiles for the bathroom, and floor tile for the sunroom. I enjoyed the trips because of Jamie’s ability to pull together beautiful, high quality products. I don’t have a good sense of color and Jamie was again very patient when I kept asking if everything went together. Everything goes together beautifully, of course, including the final paint colors chosen by Jamie. Each design element complements the others. We couldn’t be happier with the way the project turned out! The bathroom is beautiful and unique. My husband and I picked out the fixtures and accessories, but Jamie is available to do that as well. We knew right from the start that she would be prepared to listen to what we were hoping to accomplish when we took on a project to transform our 1990s kitchen that had extremely limited storage, cheap cabinetry and a poor layout. Jamie listened to our 'wish list' and found a way to bring our ideas to fruition. She presented several designs and we chose one and worked with her to refine the details. She was able to guide us through the process of cabinet design that allowed us to customize our storage so that we were able to take maximum advantage of the space we have. It is shocking that we now have at least three times the storage in our new kitchen! She made fantastic suggestions regarding placement of utensil and plate drawers, appliance garages etc.! There are pictures of our kitchen, master bath and half bath in her photos. During the initial consultation we walked around the house, discussed options and decided which parts of the project needed the help of a designer. We looked at the designs, discussed the pros and cons of each, and then she took our comments and came up with more options. We repeated this over and over until we had something we really loved. Throughout the process Jamie had great advice and was remarkably willing to go back to the drawing board until we got it right. The layout of the master bath was particularly tricky since it was a tight space, but Jamie made it work and we love the final result. And the kitchen is fantastic. She managed to get all of our ideas in, while making it easy and convenient to use. We cook a lot, so she made sure it's a highly functional space. But it's also beautiful. We wanted it to look like an old farmhouse kitchen with open shelves and a built in breakfast nook. We didn't have a ton of space but Jamie fit everything in and it came out great. > > After the layouts were finalized, Jamie produced finished elevations that the contractors could work from. She has her own cabinet maker, but doesn't require you to use him. Even after the final elevations were done we wanted to make some changes, and Jamie obliged - reconfiguring the layouts and remaking the final plans more than once. > > After the plans were done Jamie went the extra mile, holding our hands through some of the other design choices that she wasn't even contracted to do. It was a gut renovation of a small, difficult space. But her design maximized its usability and also made it look great! We were first time homeowners and she was very good at explaining things and kept us from making rookie mistakes. For example, we were tempted to greatly simplify the lighting plan to save money and she really encouraged us not to because of its impact on the look and usability. It was absolutely the right call. But she also was very sensitive to our project budget , and was very constructive about giving ideas about where we could make good compromises and maximize value. We enjoyed the kitchen she designed for 5 years, and it continually evoked wonderful comments from our neighbors and visitors. When we sold the home in 2013, the realtor remarked on how much of a positive impact that particular kitchen had on the potential buyers. It is my belief that the kitchen upgrade is a major reason why the home had 8 offers above asking price after the first open house and sold in that first week. Needless to say, we hired Jamie again to design a kitchen renovation for the suburban single family house we moved to from the townhouse. Once again, the design process has been very positive and the design is great...addressing all of our 'must haves' within the constraints of the property. Its also obvious to me that Jamie has gained a lot of experience, refined her process, and added a broader range of ancillary services that her company can offer through her partnerships with other professionals and companies (e.g. a cabinet maker). Jamie's kitchen design services not only help you bring your own ideas to life, they make these ideas better.
