**★★★★★ — Juliet Yoshida, Sept. 2021**

> We recently moved to a new home and have been calling tons of contractors for little projects around the house and it is hard out there to find a good contractor who does good work at a good price. Chad came out (getting a call back was hassle free and very fast) and was such a pro he figured out how to fix our over flowing gutter in about 15 min. Then he proceeded to bill us $0 because it was such a quick fix! Gotta love an honest pro!! Next time we need our roof replaced or gutters done we will definitely be requesting Chad and we will be recommending him to all of our friends. Thanks!

> My house was in need of a new roof so I contacted several roofing companies. White Castle roofing answered me back very promptly. There sales person and estimater was very knowledgeable and helped me with all my questions. One part of my roof had a very low slope and they had the right solutions to my problem. I would recommend them to any one needing a new roof. Their installers were very professional and very hard working and they had my new roof on in two days. Thanks for my new roof.

**Comment from White Castle Roofing:**

> Thanks nemiedrums37! I am so glad you love your new roof, it was pretty tricky on that back flat section. Robert and I are extremely glad you like how everything turned out. Hope all is well - Jake Hansen

> They took off my old roof haled it away and put on a new one in two days. They did an excellent job and arrived to get the work done when promised. They had the lowest estimate and still came in under budget with the highest quality shingle.

> Had to research information on a defective roof and talked to Luke at White Castle - he knew exactly the type of roof and the legal/background on its defects, which helped us decide which negotiation route to take with the sellers. Very helpful.

> Our contact with White Castle was Jason Williams. He began working with us in the spring of 2012, and patiently kept educating us, giving us information, spending any time necessary to help us as we worked on a plan for our roof replacement.
>
> We had to have the front entry of our home remodeled due to a bad water problem that had never been able to be solved for over 20 years. He has amazing patience and respect for his customers. We are impressed with him personally as he made the complications & confusion that we were dealing with in our lives so much simpler. He worked well with the company we chose to remodel the roof and the job was done efficiently and professionally.
>
> The White Castle business office employees are responsive and helpful. Our experience had few problems, and the challenges we did have were handled quickly and smoothly! We are extremely thankful for the positive experience we had with this company.

**★★★★★ — joycehope, July 2012**

> The staff at White Castle did a wonderful job of repairing a hole in our shingles created by wildlife digging on the roof. They were not able to exactly match our shingles, but gave us a choice of what was available, and worked it in with the remaining shingles so it was not quite so obvious. They were prompt with estimates, repairs, and billing. We were very pleased with the job they did for us.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Beautiful! Which asphalt shingle manufacturer and color did you use?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank you so much! We used Certainteed NorthGate shingles in MaxDef Weathered Wood on this house -- so the color isn't too far off of the cedar shakes, but they're a LOT easier to maintain, and are still impact resistant!

**Q: what are the exterior paint colors ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: You know, that's a great question -- we did the roof on this house, but not the siding or paint, so I honestly couldn't tell you. Sorry to not be of more help!

**Q: Adding a porch....** *(in Photo Questions)*

Should I do a shed style roof or pitched roof with this style of home?

A: Hi Cindy! Thanks so much for asking -- it's a great question. We would recommend having a pitched roof go off the house, and make sure it's at least a 4/12 pitch. The hard part with any porch going off the roof is always the transition from the "regular" house roof to the porch roof, so we definitely recommend planning that transition carefully, enlisting a professional if needed, and position it to give yourself room to pitch the porch roof appropriately. Hope that helps!

**Q: Type of Roof?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need a new roof - I immediately thought black (to hide stains), but people on Houzz suggest charcoal. I live in New England if that makes any difference stylistically. We aren't the original homeowners, so what color would you say my roof is currently? Also, what style is it? I have been driving around and like the textured looking roofs; where it almost looks like 3D if that makes any sense? Is that architectural? What other styles are there?

A: We are! We don't personally install a ton of Iko roofs, so my familiarity isn't quite as high with that brand as a few others, but there's nothing wrong with them (it's more just distributor preference than anything). That color would be a good one for your roof. It's got some nice dimension to it so it's not all just one shade -- kind of textured-looking, like you mentioned in the OP you were looking for. If you haven't seen any of those roofs in person, it might be worth asking your contractor about, or look up some completed houses online -- they look a little different with the shingles all together than just on a sample board, but with a cool effect that the small board doesn't quite do justice to, if that makes sense. Let us know what you choose!

**Q: Help me select a paint color for our exterior door** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello,
We finally replaced the old front door on our home, but are struggling with selecting a good paint color. I would really appreciate any thoughts from color experts!
As you can see in the photos, our home has a light yellow siding (Certainteed Autumn Yellow), and a reddish brown roof. It has some natural colored stone work under the wrap-around porch. The porch floor boards will be re-stained soon, to a color that is similar to the roof and mulch. Currently, they are faded and lighter than I'd like.
Our previous door color (was there when we bought the house) was a deep blue with a hint of teal (Behr Nocturnal Sea). It looked nice and the color popped, but I've always wanted to try a different shade of blue, one that is a bit more classic and would tie in nicely with the natural grey/blue tones in the stonework around the porch. However, most of the grey-toned blues appear too muted. I think we need a deep color in order to complement the roof and eventual porch color.
As of now, Benjamin Moore's Hale Navy is a top contender. I like that it has a grey tone, but is still a deep blue. I worry though, that maybe it's too cool, or too dark? Do I need the warmth of a teal-based blue in order to complement the other colors on our house?
For the record, I have considered shades of green, but we have so much natural green around our home, that it feels like overkill. I've also considered browns, but it's tricky, considering the roof and porch colors.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. I'm tired of spending money on pots of sample paint! Oh - disregard the brass kick plates. We are removing the bottom one, and will replace the one on the door with something that matches the handleset. :)
Thank you!

A: SUUUUUUPER rough, but this has the sidelights in white with just the door made more of that lighter blue (prob a little more periwinkle than you meant, just was playing with color controls really quickly), to give you a little visual. :) Happy painting! Definitely give us an "After" photo when you get it done!

**Q: Roof and siding names** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the color of the siding and roof? It looks great.

A: Thanks so much, Sue! The roof is Pewter Gray, from GAF's Timberline HD line of shingles. I honestly don't know on the siding. We only really ever used James Hardie products, but I don't know that we did the siding on this house (it was completed four years ago!), so I wouldn't want to tell you one color specifically in case we only did the roof. Sorry to not be more help, but thanks again for the kind words, and I hope the shingle color helps steer you a little!
