> We hired Todd Willoughby of Willoughby Design LLC to handle the design and MEP engineering for our 7,000 sq. ft. custom single-family home. Throughout the process, we encountered several challenges with permitting and construction, especially during COVID, when the county switched to digital applications midway through our submission. Todd was incredibly patient with my numerous requests and consistently delivered on time. He also provided inspection services during construction. Working with him has been a great experience, so much so that we've now hired him for a 2,000 sq. ft. gut renovation project. As anyone who's been through the process knows, building or renovating a home can be stressful, but Todd’s patience, prompt advice during the design phase, and ongoing support throughout construction made the whole experience surprisingly manageable and even enjoyable. Additionally, Todd was always quick to respond to any field issues, often immediately or as soon as possible. I highly recommend Willoughby Design LLC without any reservations.

> Todd has been a pleasure to work with. We asked him for help in designing plans for a renovation for our 1960s home.  The existing home had a one-car garage, and we wanted to expand that to a two-car garage and add an extra room for a second work-from home office, as both my husband and I work remotely.   After reviewing our lot’s survey, it was discovered that we were too close to the property line to expand the current garage, which necessitated putting the new garage on the other side of the house.  This added another layer of complexity to the project, as we now needed to incorporate the existing single-car garage space into our home as usable living area. Todd listened to our ideas for repurposing the space and provided good recommendations of his own.  As others have mentioned, he worked well with our builder and quickly answered questions from the county permit office, expediting the permit approval process.

> We’ve been working with Todd Willoughby since early in 2018. We had purchased a piece of land along the Chesapeake Bay and wanted to build a small but thoughtfully designed contemporary garden cottage for our retirement. After speaking with a number of architects we chose Todd and we’ve been very happy with that decision. Over several months, we worked have closely with him through the several design phases, culminating in a very complete set of construction documents, that we are now using for bidding. Throughout the process we’ve found Todd to be personable, smart, perceptive and creative. He’s been able to translate our ideas into working drawings that one of the contractors noted were called the most detailed he’d ever seen. Todd has captured our vision for an environmentally friendly house with solar and rain water harvesting. We have met with him many times talk through the many details, choices, and constraints you inevitably face. He’s done all the coordination needed with the other specialties – the engineers, surveyor, and solar energy firm. Having enjoyed this first part of the collaboration, we’re hiring Todd to help us through the bid evaluations and construction admin phases. The best recommendation would be our actual house, but until we get there we can say Todd has done an excellent and professional job getting us this far, and we look forward to working with him through to a completed project.
