We created an unusual vertical tile treatment behind the vanity and toilet to exaggerate the height in the otherwise small space. We also put in a spectacular metallicized natural cork wallcovering. The only other decorative detail was the leather magazine racks reflected in the mirror. The custom woodwork incorporates an ingenious murphy bed system with a high-grade mattress and a wood panel base. the bed can be retracted fully made. Since it is seen from the entrance foyer, we made a very strong statement with zinc-clad dressers and a bench. Not only does it provide excellent communal storage for towels and sheets and other guest necessities, it also creates an unexpected focal point from multiple vantage points in the house. - [Ohio Riverfront Residence Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/ohio-riverfront-residence-kitchen-pj-vj~499455) - Location: Columbus, OH - Photos: 3 - Description: We kept the essential elements of the original, medium honey-colored wood kitchen and rebuilt the doors and added lots of trim detail. We then painted the cabinets in a soft white that matches the rest of the trim throughout the house, making the cabinetry feel much more architectural. The batiques on the two guest room walls are focal points and compositional anchors. In this bedroom, we covered an entire wall with fabric right up to the window. The use of the double curtain panel in front of the bathtub creates a warmer and more finished look than a traditional shower curtain. A: Just a note that the Emerald is a paint type and sheen, not a color. I can't really advise what you should do without being there and understanding your design intent. But the best thing to do is get a little can of paint (the actual paint, not a sample) and try it. See what you like. I believe that particular color is Sherwin Williams Anonymous 7046. Hw much would it cost to remove the stairs like that? I know it would depend on a lot of factors but what's a ballpark number A: Thank you for your question. You’re right that the costs depend on many factors...structure of the staircase, surrounding architecture, required patches to walls and floors, the contractor you use, the general price positioning of carpenters/contractors in the town or city where you live. So it’s impossible for us to give you a sense of the costs in your situation. What we do in situations like this is to invite three contractors to come and see the site and then offer quotes. This process should not cost you anything. You will also get very valuable feedback and ideas from the contractors, which can help you solidify your concept. Good luck!
