I had already hired a kitchen designer to provide the kitchen layout and overall look. I pulled up all the old carpet and hardwoods, as well as removed some of the kitchen cabinetry and bathroom wall tile. > > DKB helped remove the rest of the kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. The items I was planning to keep and reuse (like the stainless steel fridge) remained and was covered. DKB also removed an entire wall, as well as trimmed out parts of other to create larger open spaces. Sonabout 4 months from when the project began. I was unable to live in the apartment during that time. Again the place isn’t big at 500 sq ft so that was slightly frustrating. Adding to that was the lack of communication at times from Firuz. I stopped by on many occasions either throughout the week or on the weekends and there times where no work was being performed in the apartment for days at a time. I believe a full week went by in October and the place had not seen any work done. I know this because I walked into a leak in the kitchen that DKB knew about and placed a bucket under to catch the water and let it fill up and overflow into the new base cabinet floor and concrete floor. > > I went with a very modern/clean look throughout the place and the quality of the materials used are excellent. The quality of the work I would say was above average for the most part. I guess with all final construction projects there were a number of punch list items requiring DKB to address. There was also a huge Jacuzzi tub typical of that time. > Bob is the design man on the team. We explained our desire to have the toilet framed in, for a two person shower and heated tile floor. Within a week we were meeting Bob at the design center where he showed us the drawings he had come up with. Next, we picked out the tile, cabinets etc. We actually were able to select everything in 1 ½ hours. > For the next stage we met with the project manager, Sinan. I typically like to do my own work, but as the project unfolded I realized that it could take me a year to do the project myself. The project stayed very close to on budget with just a few bumps due to some of our changes. > If we were to do it over again we would’ve placed the light switch on the inside of the toilet space and we might’ve picked a different tub because the tub we picked based on its size is made of fiberglass and I’d prefer porcelain. The one thing I did do was fill the void in the bottom of the tub with insulation to keep the water warmer longer. > Lastly, I was unhappy that our water pressure was terrible on the faucets. I procrastinated for months and finally got the nerve to call. Sinan came out the next day, come to find out the aerator was filled with crud possibly from our water heater. These were all FALSE. Throughout the project, the onsight project officer was sporadically available. He was the only member of the onsight team that could speak English, and the countertop installation and shower door were subcontracted out. Without a doubt, the fact that the project officer was sporadically onsight was the root cause of many of the problems we experienced. > The biggest disappointment was when I attempted to meet and discuss the project and issues with the owner, in hope of solidifying a relationship for future re-modeling opportunities (my kitchen).
