Most construction companies around the Pac NW continued to work through the pandemic but CC continuously used it as the 'reason' to not do the job; They kept the deposit though (likely used it for personal gain), broke contract and have since forced us to pursue legal action-- something we really did not want to do, of course. > > Be incredibly wary about hiring them for anything. **★ — Dana Re-Bloom, April 2022** > We had a similar experience as the reviewer Brain H. We also felt Cathedral Construction took advantage of our budget and time constraints. Usually, in construction you get one or two out of three things 1) Fast; 2) Good; 3) Cheap. We got none of the above. We didn't find them trustworthy and recommend carefully reading their contract and documenting all of your communication with them. When we voiced concern with the job, from our front door being left wide open overnight to the color of the grout, they would make excuses and rarely took responsibility for themselves. Multiple times we received long-winded, meandering emails late at night. In general, working with them was unpleasant and anxiety-producing. Additionally, even though we paid full price, they kept several of our materials that were never installed. They said they would bring them by but they never did. After a month of not hearing from them, we reached out about a ladder they left on the property. They picked up their ladder but did not drop off our materials. So now, not only do we have a design and execution we aren't satisfied with, we have a bathroom that doesn't even have a door on the vanity or medicine cabinet among other things. To be fair, they did offer to finish the job, but we were so far passed the deadline and found working with them so stressful and unpleasant, we declined. Needless to say, we regret hiring them and won't make the same mistake twice. **★ — Brian Huang, July 2019** > My wife and I hired Cathedral Construction for our home renovation. Tara Velarde (designer) and Paul left a sour taste in our mouths. We felt they took advantage of our inexperience in renovation as well as the time constraints we were in. After speaking to several reputable contractors, we found out that they had over-charged us for the work. The “design” that Tara has provided cost just over $800 were a joke. It’s literally an excel spreadsheet of stuff that my wife and I had picked out. We even had to ask for it after they had wrapped the initial floor install. Needless to say we did not have them do any more work to our home. Had we gone with them for the kitchen remodel, we probably would’ve over-stretched our initial budget. The prices they quoted us were ridiculous. I'm glad I ended up shopping around and found other contractors to continue our projects. **Comment from Cathedral Construction, LLC:** > Brian, > > We were a bit surprised to receive this response almost a year after providing services for you, and I wish you had contacted us directly to resolve any issues you have. We’re pretty friendly folks! > > We work very hard to provide accurate job costing in our proposals, down to the nail and penny. You accepted our proposal for the work you requested, we signed a construction contract, and we completed the work agreed upon for the price agreed upon in that contract. In fact, despite no obligation to do so, we bought back the material overage that (while standard to make up for odd cuts and prevent stalls due to long material lead times should we run short) was the result of an efficient installation. We always encourage customers to shop around, but that responsibility is on you. We stay competitive and are very accurate and honest with our pricing, but customers simply looking for the cheapest price aren’t always a good fit with us. Most come to us for other values such as our quality of work, creativity, honesty, friendliness, and valuing the sanctity and safety of people’s homes (not to mention staying in business past one construction boom). > > Having a very short window between closing on your new home and moving in, you may have had a hard time finding other contractors to provide quotes on such short notice. At the time we were booked out over two months for design and six months for construction. Our prices were honest and we worked in your more urgent needs ahead of several other people to accommodate your timeline and start design on the more exciting parts of your project. It’s unfortunate that you feel we took advantage of that timeline or your lack of experience, but that simply isn’t true. > > Regarding your design services: We provided you with an invoice detailing what time was spent on your project, and to say that you only received a spreadsheet is dishonest. You pulled the plug on design for a kitchen and two bathrooms before completion. This may not have resulted in much work product, but people worked on your behalf and even if I thought it morally acceptable not to, I’m legally obligated to pay people for their time.
