I initially had communication with Tara to arrange an estimate on a kitchen remodel. At first she communicated a lot. Then she dropped off the face of the Earth. Literally crickets. They claim to be cheaper than Ikea but they are not at all!! When Matt came out to give an estimate there were all these "possible" situations that may happen when remodeling which would lead to "possible" higher costs. This place is a big scam. I followed up with Tara for 5 weeks trying to get a detailed estimate on the remodel after Matt came out. 5 weeks! Matt advised I would have the estimate emailed in a few days! At first Tara said she would have it to me ASAP. Then after 3 weeks no response, after 4 weeks no response, after 5 weeks I gave up. **Comment from Modern Kitchen Pros:** > Unfortunately this is a businesses relationship that wasn't going to work from the beginning. I (Matt) had gone out to the property to asses the work that needed to be done. We are getting ready to remodel our kitchen, and I'm wanting to do white shakers on the uppers and a grayish green on the lowers. Does anyone know what it might cost me if I go with Kraftmaid on the lowers, in the willow with glaze? One quote I have is for 8 base cabinets, one with lazy Susan, with ss, then 1 12" base, 2 24" base, 1 30" base, 2 24" three drawer base, 36" sink base. I would like the trash pull out, and roll out cabinets on the 24" standards. I am thinking I can spend more on the lowers and go a little cheaper on the uppers. I'm looking at needing about 8 cabinets for the uppers, will do the 36" height, & would like to have glass in a couple of them. I want my kitchen to be the farmhouse type theme, so any suggestions would be great! Looking at white glass subway tile for backsplash, still little hung up on what color granite for countertops. I have basically only been to lowes and HD, other than also Surplus Warehouse. I'm not sure where else to check in my area, but did like what I saw at HD. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks A: Use IKEA cabinet frames and hardware, buy custom fronts from CoronaMillWorks... the cost is extraordinarily less and you can get high quality options with any color combination without breaking the bank.. average IKEA kitchen remodel cost (includes all labor, new appliances, flooring, countertops, etc) is approx $1,000/lft a budget of 23k is definitely doable, and no one would EVER know that you DIDNT spend $50k on your kitchen :) if you'd like, message us and we can show you exactly how much your kitchen would cost if you went this route :) **Q: Would you accept this granite? What should I do?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I hope this all makes sense. We've been slowly and surely working on fixing up our 50 year old kitchen on a budget. The big thing I wanted was to take down some cabinets over the peninsula and bump out our counter so that there would be seating there. I took months to decide on a counter top. Between all the different choices, we finally chose some granite. It was installed on Friday. However, the peninsula piece was measured wrong in two ways. The overhang on both sides is diagonal by about a half inch, i.e. the counter is crooked (it's not my cabinets). I noticed it when I was feeling the counter edges. The other part that is wrong is a gap around my pantry. It really should be flush with the side of the pantry. We did discuss that there would be on small gap on the interior side of the pantry, but that gap is crooked. The whole gap is also not square to the pantry. Another twist here is that when they went to install the peninsula piece, they had to cut about an inch off of the wall end (they cut it in my house which I wasn't happy about) because they couldn't fit it in the space. Now I am also missing an inch off of the length of the seating side of the overhang (where it wraps around the pantry). They claimed that it was supposed to be that way, but they are incorrect. I never would have said to measure it that way. I don't know if it was measured wrong or cut wrong, but it isn't right. I called the granite place the afternoon it was installed and they sent someone over the next morning to look at it. They offered two solutions. They could remove the peninsula piece and take it back to the shop and try to even it out, maybe glue a strip on the end by the wall...basically hack it up some more. I don't like that idea because it means I will lose more of my overhang on the seating side, which was the entire reason we were getting the counters in the first place. Plus I don't want any patchwork on the counters. The other solution offered is to put a backsplash around the pantry part to cover the gaps, and just live with the crooked overhangs. I told them I would think about it over the long weekend and call them on Tuesday. This was a lot of money for us to spend. I am not satisfied with it but not sure what to do from here. I don't like any of the suggested fixes either. What is reasonable for me to ask? Am I being unrealistic? I don't want to be unreasonably picky but I don't want to be taken advantage of either. I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks! Here's the gaps around the pantry: This part of the counter was also supposed to go to the end of the pantry, so it is short by about an inch in length. I'm not sure where your property is listed but you should be able to report to your local license board.. Don't just charge back the purchase yet.. IKEA's cabinets ARE NOT BRANDED ANYWHERE, which means your prospective buyers will NEVER know that the cabinets are from IKEA... And please keep in mind, that the drawers, drawer glides and hinges all all made by BLUM, not IKEA... And BLUM is top of the line hardware... This is why high end cabinet companies like Bulthaup use them... **Q: Finding a kitchen designer that will work with Ikea kitchens** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi Everybody, My significant other and I recently bought a house and we would like to remodel the kitchen. We both really like the Ikea style kitchens, but we don't feel confident enough to do the planning ourselves. Basically, we are looking for somebody to provide layout advice, but is willing to work with Ikea cabinetry and countertops, or at least isn't limited to a particular store's material. Ikea provides planning services for $199, which is super cheap, but I'm not sure how good the advice will be. If you have some thoughts about this, I'd really appreciate hearing your advice.
