The window and my makeup mirror will suffice most of the time, so this is mostly supplemental. The first two remind me of water, the 3rd looks like it kind of goes with the vanity sconces (the 4th choice turned vertically). Which one, and where (centered, one on each side, or just one in the right corner)? Style: a simple, clean-lined, nature-theme bathroom (natural red oak cabinets, slate-look floor, white solid-surface counters, light gray walls, and decor of wood, rocks, plants, and blue glass accents) A: Ah! Ok if your drawings are relatively to scale then that may be tight in the corner. I misunderstood, as the posted question included the Kovacs as an option. In this case, it looks like you have narrowed it down to the pendants flanking the window as the best option. Selecting from the same style line would be best as sometimes colours of glass (even white)/brightness etc can vary between product brands/lines. Also the frosted finish helps with toning the light down so it is not as blinding as the clear glass ones can sometimes be. Try to see the lights on before you purchase them (many places you cannot return lights that have been installed). I find so often they look different than expected when turned on. Best of luck with your project! **Q: Need help with a flooring decision.** *(in Polls)* We have it narrowed down to two samples. Would you go with Option 1 or Option 2? (option one is on the left.) This is a new series from Cortec. It is their Plus Premium line. The color is Pinnacle Oak and Spirit Oak. We had some water damage to the existing flooring so the honey color flooring has to go. Good luck with your project! **Q: How should I get eroded ground back to grade (gravel? topsoil + seed?)** *(in Landscape Design)* Hey all! So, we purchased a home semi-recently, and the gutter on the garage had been pulling away from the fascia and letting water run down behind the gutter. This apparently went on for a couple of years. We just had the gutter replaced, and the downspout re-routed to the back corner of the garage. My question now is - how should I build this eroded ground/soil back up? This eroded area along the garage only gets sun a few hours a day at most, but I believe grass used to grow just fine there. Should I just lay a few inches of soil and lay down grass seed? I’ve thought about defining an area with a spade, and just filling with gravel. I’d love to hear your opinions! Thanks! A: Yes, the grade should be built up so that water drainage flows away from the structure. Fill with soil and seed/sod. A potential challenge with adding rocks along the side is there is so little height from present grade to door threshold. Without creating the soil grade underneath, but rather adding rocks only, the water will pool against the wall still. Other things that cross my mind are: Is the inside unfinished (therefore the block can dry out when wet and not encourage mold growth/decay? Concern for pest damage if grade is high and wood framing is close by)? Should there be some water-proofing/water-resistant membrane or coating added to the masonry block before topping up the grade? Regarding the down pipe, it appears from what you have written the side/spot the pipe drains to now is on the "lower" side of the yard. Therefore that should work fine. Just ensure the pipe extends out past the structure a few feet or lands on a splash pad that is sloped away from the structure. As Yardvaark (awesome name by the way!) showed in his sketch, the grade should slope away on all 4 sides to stop water from ponding against the wall. **Q: Finding U Factor of Sunrise Sliders and Picture windows with AR90 and** *(in Windows)* I am trying to find the U-Factor rating for Sunrise Window package. Specifically, I'm trying to find the U-Factor for horizontal sliders and picture windows with AR90 and KR90 Package, before I decide which one to buy. I asked for CPD number for such windows from a Sunrise dealer. This way I can cross reference their claim with NFRC.ORG website. However, they were not able to give me a specific CPD number. In fact, some dealers do not know what a CPD number is. Most of them don't reply back after I ask such number. I have talked to 6 window dealer so far. 1 from Sunrise, 1 from Vanguard, 1 from Polaris, and 4 others i'm not considering anymore. My whole point is to see their performance rating and compare it with the pricing to see whether it's justifiable the cost of the upgrade. All I was provided was this document from sunrise, but it's missing the package I'm interested in. I can go to NFRC website and search for certain manufacturer and window type, but there are a lot of CPD number and I'm not sure which one is the one with the package I'd like. I finally went to Vanguard windows site, and I find the number for slider. I can also go to Restorations windows and verde windows site to find similar thing, but not really exact. I know they are all from Sunrise. Is there any better way to find U-Factor and air infiltration rating and SHGC rating for Sunrise's AR90 and KR90 package? A: My recommendation is to contact the manufacturer (in this case Sunrise) directly, instead of going through the dealer. The manufacturers technical dept or sales reps will have that info for you. **Q: Any opinion about Alpen vs. Marvin for windows and sliding doors?** *(in Windows)* Very recently I got a $50K quote from Alpen and a $110K quote from Marvin for the same 20+ windows and sliding doors for a complete rebuild (triple-glazed, tempered glass, tilt and turn, etc.). There's such a stark difference that I'm wondering what the catch is for Alpen. Any opinion? A: Wow that is fantastic! Best of luck with your project! Some builders use an air source heath pump for primary heating/cooling, with a gas forced air furnace for the coldest days. ERVs for fresh air supply are also being used.
