### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Jan Yu, Feb. 2025**

> We had worked with Studio H twice in the past few years. In 2021, they did landscaping design for our backyard and we were very impressed by their expertise in what they do, not just in terms of designing a stunningly beautiful backyard for us, but also their extensive and in-depth knowledge regarding the types of plants that are suitable for our location. Our communications were very smooth, efficient, and casual. We mostly communicated via slack and were able to share files or reference images of what we liked. Warwick and his team were able to understand our visions/style right away and had always communicated in a professional and courteous manner. They were extremely detailed and precise with the construction documents, so when it came time for the contractors to take over and start working on our backyard, they were able to follow it without any confusion. When our modern zen backyard was completed, it looked stunning and we had always received compliments on it since then. After a couple of years, when we were ready to redo our front yard, we had no doubt about contacting Studio H again for the design and construction documents, and they've made a great impression once again! We are waiting for our construction to start, but we already know it's going to look as amazing as the back yard. Thank you so so much Warwick and Studio H team for your exceptional work!! We are forever your fans and will always recommend you to friends and neighbors!

**Comment from Studio H Landscape Architecture:**

> Hey Jan, thank you so much for the wonderful review! We have really enjoyed working with you and love how your rear yard turned out, it’s such a cool space. We were flattered you reached out again to continue the project in the front yard and I’m looking forward to see it completed, hopefully soon!

**★★★★★ — HU-324032428, Dec. 2024**

> I cant say enough good things about Studio H and their owner Warwick. I hired them to do my yard design which was over ½ acre. They not only have a keen eye for design, they understand space and how to make things flow seamlessly. It was not an easy design since there was so much open space to work with but they were able to design it in a way that had separate outdoor areas, different elevations, and incredible flow from one space to another. They also designed the lighting, barbecue, irrigation, furniture, materials, pergola, outdoor furniture and more. It was a complete nut to bolt design and I cant be more pleased. The 3 d renderings were so amazing, my contractors, friends and pretty much everyone who saw them were blown away.
> Last thing is how easy they are work with. I had several change requests as I couldn’t figure out some things but ironically, we went back to 95% of their initial rendering. This just shows how spot on their vision was from the get-go. Warwick and his designer Ben were so helpful in explaining the space, allowing me freedom to ask, adjust and just so easy to work with.
> We are almost done with the project and all I can say is, Thank God I hired them.

> Guard you wallets!!! TLDR: Their needlessly complicated design fee structure and oversight of labor costs allows them to take advantage of inexperienced home owners by charging a lot up front then raising prices once you are committed and bleeding money from you at every turn.
>
> I never write yelp reviews, but I had such a bad experience with Studio H that I feel compelled to save others from making the same mistake I did. A little context: I approached Studio H as a first time home owner with a relatively large project. In my eagerness to design my new yard, I didn't make them bid for the job (like I should have; I know better now), but they seemed trust worthy and very forward thinking. Their website was exquisite and though pricey, the results seemed worth it.
>
> The first issue is that they asked for a lot of money upfront just to get started on the project before delivering a budget or a design. I now know that this is a red flag and that many landscape design firms will come and bid for the job before asking for money. The second issue is that the designer was NOT the person who came to my house to talk to me about what I wanted. That client rep (Allison), passed her notes to the designer (Ben), who lost a lot in translation. The third issue is that it took them over 2 months to deliver the first design, which, despite numerous phone calls, and sample photos, looked nothing like what I had asked for. Furthermore, when I asked for some revisions to the design so that it more closely matched what I had initially asked for I was, immediately, old that in order to make any changes, I needed to pay them more money. This was because the changes I requested somehow bumped me into a higher design fee tier, despite having given them a budget at the start of the project. They also used this opportunity to dissuade me from getting bids on the labor (at this point I was only paying for the design) because their team/subs were 99% accurate and other folks would just rip me off. After speaking to Warwick, I agreed to pay a bit more to get the design closer to what I wanted, but when it arrived it was still way off and when I asked for more revisions, I was again told that I need to pay more. For me that was it, lesson learned.
>
> Like others who have commented here, I was charged for 3D renderings I never received (even when specifically asked), ignored for long periods of time, and consistently upsold when I asked for "revisions" to the point that I think they may have purposely submitted subpar designs so they could charge more.
>
> The fact is there are just too many other quality companies out there to take a chance on Studio H.

> This is our first experience of yard design and work. We had no ideas about how to start and what to expect on processes and decisions. Studio H team is resourceful, structured and approachable. They have great people and effective approaches. They are resourceful, listening, and passionate. Communication is their number 1 focus — face-to-face, group meetings, phone calls, Slack, emails, They helped organize our thoughts using concepts, sketches, 3-D rendering, and example photos. They constantly asked about our ideas and opinions, linked the ideas to outcomes and recommendations. Estimated financial figures are visible in ranges throughout the process, sensitive on budget target. They help attend details for all the bridging from design to make them real. Checking HOA rules, link to contractor candidates, comments on the bidding from the contractors. We ended up picked QS Landscaping as our contractor. It was in the list Studio H recommended. Great experience throughout the material picking and constructions. We are so happy when seeing the completed work: styles, details, aesthetics and practicality. We highly recommend the designer and the contractor.

> We worked with Studio H and QS Landscape to design and build our landscape about a year ago.
>
> After a yearlong enjoyment and receiving compliments, we can say that their work is truly amazing and will stand the test of time. During the entire process, Warwick and his team went out of their way to help us realize the vision we had. Their plan was so detailed that we had zero problem with the design review committee and construction.
>
> We have recommended and will continue to recommend Studio H to anyone in need of a landscape architect

**★★★★★ — Todd Easton, Dec. 2018**

> Our experience with Studio H has been terrific. We’ve been working with them for over a year to landscape our new home. Without doubt, Studio H and the contractor they suggested for us, QS Landscaping have created exactly what we wanted. The ability of Studio H to create a 3D rendering of the finished landscaping was indispensable in helping us picture our completed project. Their attention to detail in the presentation of the final plans was amazing and incredibly helpful when it came time to begin construction.
>
> As we’ve come to learn, the landscape design for a new home is really a process, it takes time and lots of thought on the part of the homeowners and the landscape architect. Warwick Hunt and his team at Studio H put in the time, they held our hands every step of the way. They listened to our ideas, incorporated those they thought would work and gently steered us away from those that wouldn’t. When construction time came, they were there to supervise and consult with us and the contractor.
>
> If you are in need of landscaping, we would urge you to consider using a landscape architect. And we would certainly urge you to consider Studio H. They will get the job done, on time, on budget, with no drama…and the outcome will be amazing.

**★★★★★ — minyen1976, Sept. 2018**

> The design and work was very high level and professional. The team was easy to work with. Our backyard turned out the way we had envisioned and beyond. Money well spent. Thank you Studio H!

**★★★★★ — rasgon, Nov. 2017**

> Our experience dealing with Studio H has been a pleasure. Warwick and his team are very professional, always giving great advice, and prompt to respond to any question. I wish more companies would be as easy to deal with.

**★★★★★ — Josh Moses, Nov. 2017**

> Excellent design , professional work, clean and reasnoable in pricing. Dealing with the owner was fast and easy I highly recommend.

**★★★★★ — Yikai Zhu, July 2017**

> I worked with Studio H Landscape on my front yard and backyard project. They did an amazing job. They provided great conceptual design as well as very detailed construction documents. They also assisted my find the right contractor and kept track of the project. My family and I are super impressed by how professional Studio H is and How good their taste is. I will definitely recommend Studio H to anyone who want high end, professional landscape design with superb taste.

**Comment from Studio H Landscape Architecture:**

> Thanks so much Yikai! It was really a pleasure working with you. We couldn't have asked for a better client. We always say, "The better the client, the better the project." Thank you for allow us our creative freedom on your vision for the space. I can't wait to see how the project continues to improve after a couple of growing seasons with the plant material.

**★★★★★ — Aqua-Link Pools and Spas, July 2017**

> I have worked with Studio h on a number of projects. I can say they have the most detailed plans of anyone that I have worked with. Their cut sheets and perspective drawings leave little doubt as to what should be done on a project. They are always available to communicate and collaborate on a project. As one of only 18 people in the world to have attained Society of Water Shape Master status I can say they are truly the best around. Their details on water shapes and landscape are some of the best that I have seen and they have a unique perspective on every project. I can't recommend them enough.

**★★★★★ — Bill Sharpsteen, June 2017**

> The people at Studio H did an incredible job with my landscape plans. They were professional and always responsive to my emails. I submitted the plans to the County of Los Angeles and they were approved after one set of corrections, which in my experience is the best you can expect. I highly recommend them.

**Comment from Studio H Landscape Architecture:**

> Thanks for the kind words Bill. The entire team at Studio H really enjoyed working with you. I'm glad those plans got approved so quick, as we all know what fun working with the Country of LA can be!

## Community Q&A

**Q: how do I purchase the condenser wooden cover** *(in Photo Questions)*

How do I purchase the wooden condenser cover

A: We actually custom designed that so unfortunately you can’t purchase it.

**Q: what type of trees are along the wall** *(in Photo Questions)*

Wanting ideas for treats that I can plant in my backyard that would create some privacy.

A: Thanks for reaching out. I’d suggest checking with your local nursery, they will know what is best for your region and have some great suggestions. I believe we were using golden goddess bamboo in that picture, and often podocarpus ’Maki’ are used for privacy in SoCal.

**Q: Love this! How did you install the deck/wood?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hoping to do something similar and am wondering how the deck is installed (whether directly on the ground or some type of subfloor)?

A: Hi there, thanks for checking out our projects! You always want to have a wood deck on posts, elevated off the ground, with weed barrier, drainage, and gravel. It’s very important to get air flow under the deck so that the wood doesn’t ”cup” or warp due to one side being hotter and /or more moist. I hope that helps. Good luck on your project!
