How much maintainence would be required? HOw easy can it stain? A: I too have a natural stone backsplash in my kitchen. Mine however, has a rough finish and can be difficult to clean. I use two methods for cleaning: I use a spray bottle of 50/50 water and white distilled vinegar (spray on and clean off with a sponge). If I have made a mess or something has splattered on it behind my stovetop I use my Shark steam cleaner with the brush tip to clean in the small grooves.
