We spent awhile in ‘dither mode,” debating whether to do a minor versus major renovation until Lee measured the place from stem to stern and began to generate two and three dimensional CAD drawings from multiple perspectives that showed us what was possible. That kicked us into the ‘tear it down to the studs and start over mode.’ Although the basic floor plan remained similar, Lee altered the dimensions of every single room to optimize feel and function. The kitchen, media room and stairway were completely reimagined, much of the duct work reconfigured, walls shortened and/or extended, baseboards heightened, valences amplified, all of which enhanced the sense of height, space, substance and flow. All this while creating newfound privacy where it had been lacking. The result has a “wow factor” greater than the sum of its parts. Plus the views are more “inside” and our artwork and painted Quebec antiques pop in a way they didn’t before. > > Lee has a special talent when it comes to the use of space; she is perfectionistic and detail oriented while never losing sight of the big picture. As a designer with strong opinions, she forced us to think through our own ideas and preferences at a deeper level than we would have otherwise. Not to mention her handholding through countless trips to kitchen, lighting and appliance outlets and the fact that she did most of the heavy lifting with the general contractor for the several months of demolition, framing and electrical/plumbing while we played golf in the desert. It is perhaps obvious that we are more than just “happy” with our renovation.
