### Reviews

**★★ — Erica Nelson, Sept. 2018**

> ACS did a wonderful job initially --- we had them create a 600+ SF stamped concrete patio, with firepit and wall for our backyard. Everyone we worked with was incredibly nice and responsive throughout the process. When the project was completed, we were happy to see the results and loved it!
>
> Fast forward 3 years later, our firepit, which we have used less than ten times, has 3 of the 5 top stone pieces that have cracked in half and become loose --- a major safety hazard for our toddler and our guests. I have called ACS over five times, leaving messages with no response. My husband reached out via email and phone as well, with no response. I finally received a call back from the head of the masonry team, who said they would send someone out to look at it and get back to me. Someone did come, as I noticed them when I was working from home -- in fact, they sat on the wall by the firepit and never fixed a thing -- after that, I never heard back. I proceeded to call back to the Masonry contact four times before I received a text response providing me with their subcontractor to contact directly.
>
> We have referred our neighbors to ACS, and found out that they have not been hearing back on their issue either. Customer service and basic respect is apparently a non-concern for this organization. Never have I indicated that I would not pay for the repair, nor have I asked for anything outside of requesting someone to come help us with this safety hazard. After spending money on our project and referring others to ACS, the least I would expect would be a prompt call back for issues to discuss resolution. Instead I have a text to call their subcontractor myself and work it out directly with them because ACS apparently doesn't wish to assist us.
>
> As mentioned, our experience at first was great, but if you ever expect to be able to ask any questions, have anyone look at any concerns, or just downright get anyone to answer a phone, I would reconsider my choice.

> Joe, thanks so much for all your help and close eye on my budget. You have been beyond great. I'm going to miss having your very kind, professional, and creative help on this project. It has been a real pleasure getting to know you and working with you. Brett and all the staff at ACS have been very excellent and professional too. I would very highly recommend your company anytime.

> Love our new patio and firepit! The crew were knowledgable and did a fantastic job of creating what we discussed. From the ladies in the office to the crew installing our patio, we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Nice job!!

> I went to school with Mike. When my mother mentioned she needed a new driveway he was the first person I thought of. My mother is older and single so a lot of workmen try to take advantage of her. ACS took great care of her, the workmanship was incredible. They showed up on time, were honest, respectful and gave her a great deal. She is IN LOVE with her stamped concrete driveway (I live abroad and got numerous pictures of it) and she enjoys having people stop and look at it and ask questions about what a "cool"driveway she now has.

> The response by the ACS team reiterates our personal experience of "more time defending and no time assisting". My wife and I are in the service industry - our company works with vendor contractors - we accept and ultimately "own" who our company does business with - our customers would never accept anything less. In this kind of situation we would work directly with the lighting manufacturer - on behalf of our customer - and rectify the situation, not just wash our hands and pass us on. I am sincerely hoping this is a learning opportunity for them.
>
> Horrible customer service after the sale! Once my patio was finished (which was average attention to detail at best) I had an extremely difficult time hearing back from them. The LED lighting is under a 10 year warranty but several lights went out within the first year. I made several outreaches but would not get a response. Finally, after repeated attempts I received a response that they buy the lighting from someone else and its not their responsibility. They spent more time defending and practically no time assisting. They definitely did not own what they sell. Honestly I think they are a very small company with limited resources and people wearing multiple hats - they just don't have the bandwidth to provide any level of customer service post sell. I had the best experience pre sale and the worst post sale.

>
> We're sorry you were displeased with your interaction with ACS. Your emails show you were pleased with the job after completion in 2012 and we responded promptly to your questions. Your inquiry about the lights happened on August 14th, 2014, almost a full year after our contractor warranty had expired (November 28th, 2013). That email was responded to the same day, explaining that the lights were still covered through the manufacturer, and therefore would need to be handled directly through them. All of these communications and dates can be backed up with email thread documentations.

> I had stamped concrete and a fire pit installed in my backyard. Everything was completed to our specifications. The work was done early last summer and we haven't had any issues. During the construction all of our questions were answered, and we were very satisfied with the work which was done.

> ACS (Artistic Concrete Surfaces) created a beautiful outdoor living space that included an outdoor kitchen, firepit and seating area in our back yard. This new space has literally transformed our back yard from just a back yard to an entertainment area. Everyone we worked with at ACS were very professional and took pride in their work. Joe, our project manager came out and spent time getting to know us and understand what our vision for our space. Joe then created drawings of what he thought would work for us and our budget. We could not be happier! If you are in the KC area go with ACS, you will not be disappointed.

> Our project with ACS was a positive experience. Joe was very patient as we worked to decide what we wanted to do. Even though we changed our minds several times, he willingly prepared an estimate that reflected the changes.
> The concrete crews did a professional job of pouring and stamping the concrete. The stone crew laid the stone in an eye appealing design. Each crew left the yard in great shape.
> The patio and barbeque island are beautiful and we have enjoyed using them.
> Friends and neighbors have been impressed with the quality of work and the finished product.
> We would recommend ACS for quality concrete projects.

> ACS replaced my sunken and broken sidewalk and driveway with a stamped pattern, colored concrete. What a beautiful transformation! Drivers have actually stopped and gotten out of their vehicles to look at it. It's added a great deal of street appeal to my home. I love it! Also, working with them was so easy. They answered my questions and were on time and did exactly what was contracted. Refreshing to work with such professionalism!

> Did a wonderful job on our patio! Nicest patio off the back of the house, in our entire subdivision! They are very professional and do excellent work! Looking to build a new home, and they will be a "must" to do the patio work on the new home! Only negative thing I could say about the process was that it did drag out a bit and sometimes they were difficult to get ahold of and find out specific dates they were going to be out to do the project.

**Comment from Artistic Concrete Surfaces:**

> We're so glad to hear you're happy with how the job turned out! Thanks for the helpful feedback - we're always looking for ways to improve our customer's experience.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Where are the rafter lights from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I believe that was a Kichler spot. We purchased them from a local lighting store.
\- The ACS Team

**Q: beam size/gable span** *(in Photo Questions)*

How far does the beam across the front span from post to post? What size beam is that and what size lumber was used for the collar ties? Was this engineered? I'm trying to do something similar and don't want a post supporting my ridge beam. I need to span 27'-10"
Thanks

A: Thanks for contacting us about your project! Those end posts were only 19' on center, so not near the span you're dealing with. A structural engineer would be able to size the beam for you, might have to go with metal on a span of that size.
\- The ACS Team

**Q: Where do you get your stone veneer?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I work at Canyon Stone in Olathe, KS and I work on our marketing. I was wondering if a couple of your photos contained our stone. If so, may we purchase a couple of photos from you? thank you.

A: Our records say "Boudreaux Manor" for both timber ledge and tuscan fieldstone (used on fireplace).
Hope that helps!

**Q: are the planters made of real stone?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This is a natural stone veneer. The structure of the planter is a concrete block. A natural flagstone is used for the cap. Let us know if you have additional questions!
\- The ACS Team

**Q: What color is the stain/sealer and brand?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Also, where were you able to find the pipe that goes in between the wooden posts? Love the deck!

A: Thanks for contacting us about this project! The homeowner actually had a family friend stain the deck so we don't have that on file. The cable system including the center support was from a local deck supply store - anyone carrying cable rail should have these available. Sorry we couldn't be of more help on the stain!
-The ACS Team

**Q: deck builder** *(in Photo Questions)*

how much should a 10 x's 10 deck cost

A: Brunetta -

Thanks for contacting us about your project! Deck cost can vary depending on the site and material/railing you choose. We can install decks as part of a multi-scope job (usually including a concrete patio below). If you're looking to do a project like that, please call our office to set up a meeting with one of our designers 913.829.7222.

Thanks,

The ACS Team
