> Gordon's is the best company I have ever dealt with. I am recently severely disabled and needed a large remote controlled shade. Everyone I worked with through the process was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. They made sure everything was perfect, and followed up to inquire if everything was done to my satisfaction. And my new shade is beautiful.

**Comment from Gordon's Window Decor:**

> Thank you so much, David! It was our pleasure to help you and your home become more 'shady'.

> Gordon's --- the absolute best! Products are top quality! However, the stars of the show are the awesome people who make up the Gordon's team! Specifically Amy A. who went so far beyond the call of "duty", that I was amazed. And so grateful! In my 50+ years of shopping, her definition of helpful exceeded any previous shopping experience. A true WOW! Thanks Amy --- you're THE BEST!!!

**Comment from Gordon's Window Decor:**

> You are NOT wrong! Amy is AWESOME! AMAZING! ASTOUNDING! We are so grateful for her!

> Buyer beware!!! I had custom window treatment made for all the window in my house. When I purchased them, I was told I could have the blinds converted to top down bottom up if I changed my mind (additional cost) but could do it. I called to have my last two blinds converted. I was told they do not do any conversions. I pushed back and told them that they have already converted 6 of my 8 blinds. I was told they would do the conversions and I would need to buy new blinds. Really??? No, thank you. If I have to buy brand new blinds, I will not be purchasing them from Gordon's Window Decor. Think long and hard before choosing to spend a lot of money on custom blinds.

**Comment from Gordon's Window Decor:**

> Hi Jennifer,
> I apologize for your frustration. I just spoke with Nick regarding these conversions. It sounds like what he was trying to explain was that we could do the conversion but we found that the rate we had been doing them years ago was not at all sufficient to cover our costs so we stopped offering them in general. When we looked at the conversion process we realized that the steps involved were far more then in the build of a brand new shade (we need to take the shade apart, recut the fabric and recut the metal because there are different deductions, redrill the fabric, cut new rail, add an additional clutch and reassemble the entire shade.) All of that being said, more then anything, we are invested in making sure our clients are raving fans- as a small company in a small state every client matters. What can I do to renew your faith in our company?

> I worked with Gordon's Window Decor ordering insulated cellular shades for my home in West Roxbury, MA, on the web but mostly over the phone. They sent samples quickly and easily clarified my understanding of the different options I had for cordless, top-down/bottom-up/, standard, etc. I even decided to motorize our TV room, and they worked with me to help figure that out! In the past they have done soft treatments for me (gorgeous!), and they have always been able to figure out solutions for my windows - skylights, sliders, etc. I use my shades everyday in a not so gentle way, and everything stands up great. Excellent quality, fantastic product knowledge and I love the fact that it is a family owned and operated business. Gordon's helped make my home more comfortable, and worked with me to create a look that is casual, yet refined. I am a satisfied customer and recommend them highly.

> I frequently source the window treatments for my clients from Gorden's. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They will come out to the site to measure the windows and install the finished product. Their turn around time is average and they have great customer service.

> I have been working with Gordon's Window Decor for about 10 years in a professional capacity. We also buy EcoSmart cell shades from them. Gordon, Kelly and the team are awesome. They have very high quality standards for their product and they really push products made in the USA. Gordon is a leader in motorization as well as energy efficiency.

> I highly recommend working with Gordon's if you want great service and high quality products!

> Very professional service and very fast turn around. The shades are beautiful and have drastically reduced heating and cooling costs. Highly recommend.

> We purchased EcoSmart Shades from Gordon's in 2011. Since that time we have had to have multiple shades repaired (at our expense) and we continue to have problems with them to this day. Definitely NOT worth the "Gordon's" price tag.

**Comment from Gordon's Window Decor:**

> Hello,
> I am so sorry about all of that- that sounds incredibly frustrating. I really do want to get to the bottom of this- all of our EcoSmart Shades carry a 10 year warranty so the repairs you needed should have been free of charge. I would really love it if you would reach out to me 802-338-9344 or my email is kellyc@gordonswd.com so I can pull your file to find out what is going on.

> Gordon's put insulated blinds in all of our downstairs windows. They are beautiful and versatile, raising from top or bottom. They provide both privacy and insulation. The service was amazing!

**★★★★★ — Jess Martin, Feb. 2014**

> Gordon's supplied me with roller shades, and I was thrilled both with their attention to me as a customer and the high quality and gorgeous looks of their shades. We live far from any installation, but we purchased them online and followed the clear instructions on installation. I'm glad to say the colors I chose from their samples, which they kindly provided, wound up looking great. The roller shades had a sturdy bead chain, and the color (galaxy I think) was perfect for my space, which had warm paint tone on the walls. As a result, I cut down on the blinding mid-morning sun, and got the benefit of a cooler home in the process. So much more aesthetic than sheers or drapes.

**★★★★★ — lhanraha, Jan. 2014**

> Gordon's Window Decor offers a ton of selection and very high quality products. We have installed 9 eco-shades in our house in three different styles. I love having the options for the top down/bottom up so we can let light in but not let neighbors see in the windows. The room darkening shades really do the job and have been great for our son especially on those long summer days when it is still light at bedtime!. The last design we have is a standard pull up shade but without light blocking, which is great as the room still gets a lot of sunlight but I am not blinded by the sun. Our house gets a lot of sunlight and so having such high quality shades with so many options has been ideal for us. I would highly recommend Gordon's shades to anyone, the quality is worth it!

**★★★★★ — evened, Jan. 2014**

> It has been almost 6 years since we purchased cellular shades from Gordon's Window Decor for all the windows in our home. We love them! They are so energy efficient as well as being very attractive. We receive many compliments on them and we recommend Gordon's to everyone. The service was helpful and friendly and delivery was prompt. They are more than willing to answer any questions or help with any problems you may encounter when installing the shades yourself. (However, they were quite easy to install.)

**Comment from Gordon's Window Decor:**

> Thanks! We are so glad that the shades are performing so well for you! We appreciate the kind words!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Suggestions for Translucent & Blackout Window Covering Combo.** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello.

For the two windows in my bedroom I’ve been wanting to have a design with which I can have two effects:

1\. For the daytime, horizontal blinds that are light in color and translucent when closed. Perhaps wood (if there is a translucent wood).
And
2\. For the nighttime, blackout shades (perhaps Roman shades?) that eliminate all (or most) exterior light for better sleep. The blackout shades could perhaps be installed in front of the translucent blinds.

I’m also searching for light-colored, translucent wood (or faux-wood) horizontal blinds for my kitchen window.

What coverings and types of installations would you recommend?

A: It sounds like a layered treatment will work for you.
Horizontal Sheer Shading in room-darkening fabric will block a lot of the light.
But I would recommend pairing them with blackout drapery.

**Q: Woven wood shades?** *(in Windows)*

I am trying to decide on window treatments for windows and slider. I am leaning toward woven wood shades. Privacy is not an issues, I am looking for light filtering. I like the idea of the woven wood for color and texture. My dilemma: is an outside mount possible over the slider due to the molding on the slider and the window inches apart on the right? Will an outside mount on the slider and inside mount on the windows look odd? If the shades are lined will the gather appear to large above the slider? How would I measure for the slider, more on the left so the shade covers the wall a bit and for the right up to the window molding? Thank you for help!

A: It all depends on the overall height of the sliding door.

**Q: patio door window treatment HELP!!** *(in Home Decorating)*

We just recently renovated our kitchen/family room. We have sliding patio doors that are south facing and get full sun right at dinner time. Previous to the reno we had drapery panels to block the sun, but we don’t have the room nor do I want drapery panels again.
Ideas to block the sun:
Roller shade mounted on the upper casing. Shade is encased in a “cassette” that is covered in the same fabric as the shade, OR we might be able to have a custom valance (fabric or wood??) made to conceal the roller but I’m not sure there’s enough room on the upper right???
Window film the door and valance - anyone have experience with these and how much sun is actually blocked??

A: It depends. Our Fascia has two sizes 3 inch and 4 inch in depth.

**Q: Design help for bedroom with off-center windows** *(in Home Decorating)*

SOS!
We centered the bed against a long wall of the bedroom. On one side of the bed is a shuttered window, and on the other is a blank wall. What should I do to achieve a balanced look?
The room is approximately 11' x 13' with 8' ceilings. The rug is cream-colored with a light brown, gray, and blue design.
As you can see, the room is bare. The bedding is just old blankets.

A: One of our favorite fixes for window designs such as this, is a wall of drapery.
If a wall of drapery is not your thing, try compensating the space with art and Roman shade.

**Q: How are the shades installed?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We have new windows and don't want to void the warranty by drilling into the casings. How are these hung?

A: Hello Denise! If you want to avoid drilling into your window casings, we would recommend what's called an 'outside' mount.

As you can see with this photo, the headrail of the shade of your choosing would be mounted JUST above your window.

Easy, peasy!

**Q: Dressing windows different height** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello. Would like to put up drapes on sliding door (left) and big window (right). If I make them the same height, I will be up to the ceiling on sliding door. Also, I would like to keep wood blinds on narrow windows but they will appear much shorter then.

A: Are your shading needs differ from room to room?

You can mix and match shading depending on your needs.
Below is a Roller Shade on the left and Top Down/Bottom Up Cellular Shades on the right.

Above are two windows, left in the great room, and right in the dining. Different heights, shaded the same way, for design continuity.
