Susan painted my mailbox to look like a desert landscape just like I wanted. We reviewed photos of landscapes that both she and I picked out. A+++ **★★★★★ — donandval, Aug. 2016** > Susan painted 21 custom tiles for us, in Mexican Talavera style to match our home style (A Larry Weir adobe brick home). The tiles depict all the wild animals in our semi-wild backyard. > Susan came to our home several times during the design process and allowed us to review each tile design, color choice, and font. She really grasped what we wanted and put her heart into her work. We would definitely use her again on future projects. **★★★★★ — Patricia Koenekamp, July 2016** > Susan Yates is an extremely talented artist who created a stunning custom piece of wooden wall art for me. I wanted a “shabby chic” look for the “Lake House Rules” wall hanging, with a specific color scheme and size. The color palette of Susan's design is exactly what I wanted, and I love the way the beautiful grains in the wood show through in the finished product. While I provided the text for the project, Susan combined just the right fonts and artistic layout to convey my messages in her design. Susan was very helpful and easy to work with as we collaborated along the way. She was also very knowledgeable in the best way to achieve the vision I had in mind. Her custom piece is exactly what I wanted and more! I am thrilled with it! And, Susan delivered it before the agreed upon date! **Comment from Susan Yates Designs:** > Thank You Pat! > That was a great project ,and I'm so happy that every one loves it. If I may request a picture of the room with the "Lake House Rules" on the wall. I will add it to this project on Houzz. > You were a wonderful customer to work with! Thanks > Susan **★★★★★ — coastalmom4, May 2015** > Susan came to paint a saying on my wall. She and I brainstormed whether stencils would be a better option. She looked at some possibilities and encouraged me to check and see if I could save money that way. Eventually, we decided against it and she came back to paint. The challenge was deciding how big the letters should be for the space and how to spread it out. Susan was so helpful and accommodating when the first option was too big (on paper) so we tried again w/another size and it turned out FANtASTIC! I couldn't be more pleased with the work and Susan is just a wonderfully patient and encouraging person to work with! You'll LOVE her :) **★★★★★ — briansteven831, Aug. 2014** > From start to finish, my experience with Susan was a pleasure. I needed a new address plaque on my home and called Susan. She asked me questions and had me send pictures to help her create the perfect fit for my house. Being that it's a summer home and would only be there for a limited time, I asked her to rush it, and she did the absolute best that she could to get it to me for us to enjoy. She updated me with progress reports along the way, and took great care in making me happy. It's obvious she loves what she does. The end result was the perfect plaque, original and high in quality, that we hope to enjoy for years to come. **★★★★ — ocraster, May 2014** > Although I am always wary of online services, Susan Yates was very professional, easy to work with and personally interested in my project, She designed me flower tiles for my kitchen backsplash (shown on site) which matched my colours perfectly. It was challenging to source tiles across two countries and she was helpful and resourceful with this as well as being very reasonably priced. I am happy to recommend her. **Comment from Susan Yates Designs:** > Thank you so much! I enjoyed working on your tiles, and you as well were very nice to work with. > > Susan Yates **★★★★★ — lauragreenking, Dec. 2013** > My husband & I commissioned Susan Yates to do a large mural for my bedroom. We met, we looked at some pictures I brought and she did some quick sketches to ensure we were on the same page. > > After 3 weeks, she called to say my mural was finished. It is 5ft x 7ft, and absolutely gorgeous. Susan hit the nail right on the head with every last detail of what we wanted, and added some personal touches that make this mural truly one of a kine, and completely "ours" - WE LOVE IT, far exceeded anything we could have hoped for. > > We had gotten several quotes from other artists, and prices we were given were astronomical. Susan's price was very reasonable, very affordable. > Now we go to sleep every night and wake up every morning looking out our mural window onto a beautiful night-time ocean scape. BEAUTIFUL!! **Comment from Susan Yates Designs:** > http://www.houzz.com/projects/397191/Moon-Scene > Thanks so much, WOW... So glad you both are happy with it!!! **★★★★★ — lskesq95, Sept. 2013** > Susan has done a lot of work for me -- all impeccable. She created a mural in my shower (7" x 14" porcelain tiles), as well as painted two sinks and a bit of the tile about the sinks in the same bath. She painted a mural on an exterior (stucco) atrium wall. She also painted several 14" x14" porcelain tiles that were used to make a custom fireplace screen for the living room. She also painted several different wall-size murals in a commercial office building (textured sheetrock) for a community charity I support. > > Susan is easy to collaborate with; extremely flexible. She doesn't take anything personal (as some artists do), and really just wants you to get in the end what you envisioned in the beginning. She's happy to come to the table with ideas or research ideas for you -- or make your ideas, whatever they might be, come to life. She does what she says she is going to do when she says she'll do it, and is absolutely delightful, pleasant, easy, reasonable, responsive, reliable, dependable, accommodating and professional. She can make anything -- anywhere -- on just about any surface, come to life. I would wholeheartedly recommend Susan for your painting artistry needs without hesitation! **★★★★★ — reitzy1, March 2013** > Re: Susan Yates Designs > > My family of 5 and my sister’s family of 5 have vacationed together every summer for the last 30 yrs in Ocean City Maryland. Our children (6 cousins, 3 boys, 3 girls) enjoyed their time spent together and would often take walks together along the shore. It was a very happy time. Sadly 7 yrs ago my sisters youngest son was killed by a drunk driver, he was just 16 yrs old. > > I had seen Susan Yates’ (Susan Yates Designs) work online and loved all of it; however one painting in particular touched my heart. > It immediately reminded me of a time when the children were younger, when we (the adults) weren't yet worn down by a life, and my precious nephew was still alive…it was the best of times...and it made me smile. > > My husband and I now own a small condo in Ocean City, and I asked Susan if she would consider doing an original/custom piece of art that I could hang in the condo. A painting that would represent the cousins as children, interacting with each other along the shoreline. > Susan Yates happily agreed to do the painting. I found her to be so easy to deal with…she was sympathetic, thoughtful, helpful and obliging. > > My husband & I are beyond thrilled with the finished painting. Susan captured exactly what I was looking for...I love, love, love my nostalgic painting. It takes me to a happy place and I smile every time I walk by it. **★★★★★ — mrsbsconi, March 2013** > Susan really listened to us and provided multiple sketches to draw out the details of the aesthetic we wanted to create in our bathroom. Starting with a whole series of photos, she integrated our vision with picture details and incorporated our color scheme to create the tile work which fits into our bathroom and makes us happy just to look at. **★★★★★ — don\_u, Feb. 2013** > I am very happy with the mural that Susan Yates designs created. I was able to describe what I wanted and within days was given a test tile showing a miniature of the scene I wanted. I was guided through the final design with suggestions for tile size, and mounting dimensions so that my contractor could incorporate the mural into the rest of the tile work. The mural is in an alcove with an indoor BBQ. The tile has held up well, and is easy to clean. > > I have had her create other murals scenes as diverse as mountains, lakes, abstract designs, and other tile articles like coasters that convey the same theme throughout the room. > > I definitely would recommend this artist for any type of tile work. ## Selected projects - [Italian Scene Tile Mural](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/italian-scene-tile-mural-pj-vj~156357) - Location: San Diego, CA - Photos: 1 - Description: This was painted on 6 inch tiles, and measures 4' x 3'.
