2e Architects, led by Peter Twohy, makes the design of custom luxury homes feel effortless. Here's how! The 2e design process features both the high-tech Virtual Reality technology and old-school design lessons (and listening!). The result is a sense of calm and great confidence for their clients throughout the design and construction of their home.
Here are four major components of the 2e design process:
First, we are the ONLY architect in Baltimore that offers both VIRTUAL REALITY and UNLIMITED 3D renderings to ensure you fully understand the design of your home. By utilizing the tools of virtual reality and 3D renderings you will always make the best, more personnel, decisions for your home.
Second, money is important so we are always mindful of your budget and will provide you multiple cost estimates during the design process while bringing your dreams into reality.
Third, we offer a very wide array of styles. This is intentional. We actively listen to YOU and learn YOUR style and then sculpt your home based on your wants, needs, hopes, and dreams resulting in a one of a kind, better than imagined final product!
And fourth, as you scroll through our photos you will see we create beautiful timeless designs. Nothing is ever trendy. We want your home to endure through the decades - creating lasting memories for you and your family.

> We began working with Peter Twohy in 2018 to develop a home design to replace our 1950's-era waterfront home on the Eastern Shore of the Northern Chesapeake Bay. Our project was fraught with challenges due to our proximity to the highly-regulated Chesapeake Bay. Zoning restrictions, home size restrictions, concerns about existing and future septic systems, water wells, canopy tree coverage, buffer zones, native species, flood zone requirements, and more, were common throughout the project.
>
> Peter gracefully and thoughtfully responded to each of these many challenges in coming up with a brilliant design for a replacement home for our tired 1950's-era cinderblock "cottage." He created a beautiful, airy, open, and clever design, which utilized state-of-the-art construction materials and methods, and which fully-capitalized on the precious amount of square footage we had to work with due to all of the aforementioned challenges.
>
> The finished product is a stunning waterfront home, which is easy to live in, extremely comfortable, classically-designed, structurally-sound, and just plain beautiful to look at. There is a wide variety of finishes and textures and materials, and it all blends together in a way that we could never have created on our own. Nor is it likely that an "average" architect could have accomplished what Peter did. It is really a very striking home, whether viewed from the street or from the waterfront. The house appears to be much larger than it really is, and it "feels" much larger as well.
>
> My wife and I can heartily recommend Peter without any reservations. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for, and Peter was worth every penny.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Hi Rick (and Lisa)
>
> I am thrilled that you LOVE your new home!
>
> Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful recommendation. I'm deeply honored by your praise, but I must emphasize that architecture is very much a team sport. The success of this project is a testament to the collaborative effort between us, your trust in the process, and the many excellent decisions you made along the way.
>
> Every stunning waterfront home is the culmination of hundreds of thoughtful choices, from materials to design elements, and your input was invaluable. It was a privilege to work with both you and Lisa on this challenging yet ultimately rewarding journey.
>
> Designing homes on the water is always worth any and all of the trouble. The unique challenges that come with waterfront properties—from zoning restrictions to environmental considerations—only make the end result that much more rewarding. There’s something truly special about creating a home that not only meets these demands but also enhances the lives of the owners and the natural beauty of its surroundings.
>
> ENJOY!
> Peter
>
> Your home stands as a testament to what can be achieved when creativity, collaboration, and a shared vision come together. Thank you again for entrusting me with your project.

> We worked with Peter Twohy to design our “legacy home” in Highland, Maryland, and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Choosing an architect is not something you do every day, and so many things about Peter made that decision easier. In addition to his actual expertise, genius and brilliance as an architect, Peter has a way of getting to the heart of what it is that you truly want, and then collaborating with you to sketch your excitement and ideas into existence. Then, in the most magical way, Peter converts your dream into Virtual Reality so you can walk through every inch of your home before the shovels ever hit the ground! VR takes a daunting process and turns it into a fun, exciting, extremely practical way of building a house, so every bit of the space makes sense to you as you “virtually” move through it. We worked with Peter to create a decidedly modern home, and without the ability to experience it in VR, we don’t think we would have had ended up with a building as uniquely beautiful, functional and perfect for us and our family.
> One other thing about Peter stands out: he pays close attention to your budget and is always offering ways to save on the all-important dollar-per-square-foot. He thinks of things you won’t, offers solutions you couldn’t fathom, and stays with you for the entirety of your project (and beyond). He’s an excellent communicator, story-teller and hand-holder, and his happiness stems from your happiness, which for us, was exactly what we wanted. We are happy and grateful to call Peter our friend.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Dear Denise,
>
> Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and thoughtful review of our services. Working with you to design your "legacy home" in Highland, Maryland, was truly a privilege, and I'm thrilled to hear that it was one of the best decisions you've ever made.
>
> It means a great deal to me to hear that you found the process of designing your home with me to be a collaborative, exciting, and fun experience. I strive to not only bring my expertise and creativity to the table but also to truly listen to my clients and understand their vision. I'm so glad that the Virtual Reality component of our process was helpful to you in visualizing your dream home and ensuring that every detail was just right.
>
> Budget is always an important consideration, and I'm glad that you felt I was able to offer solutions that helped you save while still achieving your vision. Building a home is a significant investment, and I always aim to be mindful of my clients' budgets throughout the process.
>
> Thank you again for choosing me as your architect and for taking the time to share your experience. It was truly a pleasure working with you and Rich, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of creating your beautiful, functional, and perfect home.
>
> I'm touched by your kind words about our working relationship and am honored to be considered a friend.
>
> Warm regards,
> Peter Twohy

> I have a beautiful and meaningful home. Knowing the feeling you want in a home is one thing -- figuring out a way to articulate what that means in a house design and then putting a plan into action is another. That is where Peter comes in -- with beautiful designs and practical advice. He asked lots of questions up front to figure out what really mattered to us... Light, sentimental features, flow, furniture, how we entertain, how we relax, how we create, what kinds of elements we like and, of course, budget. We shared our vision. And, then, he created something artistic, beautiful, smart, comfortable and breathtaking. We opened the front door to a close friend and when she saw the masterful space that Peter designed -- the clever use of relief in the ceiling and the focal point -- a massive window, inviting the garden to be a design element -- she literally teared up. To repeatedly hear from visitors that it is a stunning combination of beautiful design and comfort means a lot. That is exactly what I wanted.
>
> I can not adequately express my gratitude -- when I look around and think, this is one of the prettiest spaces I've been in, and it's ours -- I have Peter to thank. Thank you, Peter, for your vision, your creativity, your care, your consultation and guidance (and silly analogies). In addition to brilliant work, I also really appreciated how you and your partner, Chris, were careful with the budget -- how you talked us through some difficult decisions. You didn't just design -- you also made sure the plan could be carried out to include consulting with contractors. That kind of care and attention meant more to me than you will ever know. Your talent is immeasurable. I feel very fortunate to have had your time and attention -- with every compliment we receive, whether it's people looking at the outside from the street, or once they step inside, I realize how nice it is to have one of those spaces where people literally say "WOW," repeatedly, while they scan the space. YOU did that. Thank you. Your fan, --ANN

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thank you very much for your lovely referral. I am so pleased that you are LOVING living in your completely transformed home. For me, the second you said that your mother designed the exterior landscaping, I knew we would be doing everything we could to bring her exterior landscape design "inside" your home. Architecture is a Team Sport - so - many, many thanks to Chris in my office and to Interior Designer Niki VanEck.
>
> It was such a pleasure working with you, Ann. I am also glad that my "silly analogies" made into your review. I do strongly believe that people who enjoy the process of designing their home will love living in that home all the more. Sometimes a little humor can go a long way.
>
> Thank you also, Ann, for mentioning the care portion of the design and construction of a Custom Dream Home. Chris and I (and I know Niki as well) fully understand that your home is an expression of your Style, Values, Aesthetic and your Personality. All of this is very important and needs constant attention to make sure the Value of the design easily exceeds the combination of the Time, Effort, and Money that you have invested into your home.
>
> ENJOY your home for decades to come! Peter

**★★★★★ — Brian Kensil, Nov. 2022**

> Peter did an outstanding job in designing our home. We have moved often over my professional career and we wanted to build a home that would reflect the features we enjoyed the most from various homes we had lived in over the years. Peter was able to listen carefully and then come back with drawings that reflected our desires while enhancing certain features based on his wealth of experience.
>
> Peter's team has the technological ability to allow a client to literally "walk through the new house" on a virtual basis. You can look at the house from the outside, then walk in the doors, walk around the inside of your house and literally see out the windows. As a client, it gives you great comfort to be able to experience your house before it is built and make sure your vision and the architects were the same. My wife and I highly recommend this.
>
> Based on feedback from other third party professionals as to the topography of our property, we needed to literally flip our house. By this we mean that we needed to move everything that was on the left of the house (e.g. the garage) to the right. Peter's team was able to do this in a weekend with their software.
>
> We have found the relationship to be great with Peter and his team and highly recommend them.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thank you very much for your very kind words Brian and Sandi. I am so glad that you LOVED walking through your home in Virtual Reality long before we even started building it. Virtual Reality ensures that you make the right decisions for you every time. Virtual Reality translates the language of the architect (drawings) into the language of their clients. Simply put on the goggles and tell me if you like what you see!

> Peter designed our house so when it was time to finish our basement, we didn't hesitate to contact him. He has an incredible way of envisioning possibilities, and he came up with a terrific design, utilizing the space efficiently, yet beautifully. We are thrilled with the results and cannot recommend him highly enough.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thanks, Ann and Jim for your recommendation. It means a lot to me. GREAT that you and the boys are enjoying your basement (and your home)! I love the vibe of your Rec Room and that we were able to add all of the (translucent but not transparent) glass between the Rec Room and the Gym giving both rooms a non-basement feel! AND I love that the boys can control the color of the light shining on the glass with voice commands!

> When we bought our 1970s colonial house twelve years ago we knew it had a lot of potential. Being a young family we had grand ideas with limited resources. We had done all of our own design and renovation in our starter home but quickly realized we would need more help with our forever home. We found Peter’s profile on Houzz and really liked his projects. Once we realized he was the architect that actually remodeled our neighbor’s house, we put him at the top of our list. Interviewing and hiring an architect was a really intimidating idea for us. We had no idea what we were facing from a cost perspective. After interviewing Peter, he really put us at ease and helped us realize that hiring him to create a “whole house plan” was the best approach. Peter really listened to our ideas and was very thorough and responsive. He took my terrible drawings and turned them into a great plan that we could break into manageable projects over years. After or initial meeting seven years ago, we have turned our entire, dated, closed off house into large gathering spaces that are inviting and functional for the way our family lives. Our house now has the "Wow" factor we dreamed it could.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thank you Matt and Ronda for your recommendation! I love that you and your family are loving living in your transformed home. (BTW - I just finished my third home on your street!) I just love that we were able to COMPLETELY transform the feel and the practicality of your home and we did not make your home any bigger. And, I agree, now there is the WOW factor that was 100% needed to transform the house into your home.

**★★★★★ — T H, Dec. 2020**

> Peter was a pleasure to work with and patient and attentive throughout the process. After 40+ years in our mid-mod home, change was much-needed but also not easy. Peter had great ideas and helped us think outside of our comfort zone. He stayed in contact throughout the construction process, and we are thrilled with the final product.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thanks very much for your wonderful review. In your case, asking the right questions helped us organize your home into 3 categories 1.) what to keep, and 2.) what was great - but - still could be improved, and 3.) what you liked before but now you wanted to change. Figuring this out made the rest much easier. I so enjoyed working with you and getting to know you (and your daughter as well). I am so glad that you are enjoying your "brand new" home.

**★★★★★ — ddanca31, Nov. 2020**

> Peter Twohy is a consummate architect and is appropriately ranked in the top tier of professionals regarding his boutique designs of custom homes in the Maryland area.
> My wife and I had the unique experience of encountering Peter as we chose to develop plans for our new home which we embarked upon building from a significant out-of-state distance. One immediately recognized his talents in his approach to designing a home which fit our personal ideas and needs in terms of size, shape and concept which he blended into the personal aspects of an initial interview regarding our desires of a modern farmhouse style.
> He works efficiently with his clients and foresees their desired needs with the end product culminating in an imaginative design that reflects their dreams. He provided the unique experience of 3D renderings and accompanying videos which brought our home to life.
> After living in our home for this past year at this point and having the opportunity to reflect on the 2E experience, we marvel at Peter Twohy’s architectural talents on a daily basis. We feel fortunate that he became part of our lives both personally and professionally; it was truly a pleasure.
> Peter Twohy will make your dreams come true.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Hi Al and Deb,
> I am so happy that you are enjoying your home! I just love it that we can all be so incredibly certain of the design because we spend so much time reviewing videos instead of simply relying on drawings - and now we have finally been able to upgrade to Virtual Reality, with the goggles and everything!
> Again, I wish you even more happiness and I very much appreciate your kind words!

> Peter Twohy is a masterful architect. Peter’s knowledge of his craft, along with his meticulous attention to detail and sheer talent, make for a winning combination. Throughout the design process, Peter’s focus was always on what our needs were as a family, and his drawings reflected that. Our home addition and renovation project was far from simple, but Peter did a wonderful job problem-solving any issues that arose. He seamlessly combined old house and new to create a fresh and updated feel while preserving the house’s original charm. We are enjoying the beautiful details of our new home that he so expertly designed. He was a pleasure to work with, and I would highly recommend him.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thanks Zach and Dena. I am so happy that you and your family are enjoying your "brand new" home. I love the high ceiling space that we created for your Family Room by simply moving the Master Suite portion of the second floor up roughly 2-0 higher. Talk about a Win/Win - the Family Room gets the right feel with the higher ceiling and the beams, etc AND the Master Suite gets just a little more privacy with the addition of a small set of steps to separate it from the rest of the second floor. And I 100% agree that both keeping the existing charm of your house and simultaneously freshening up the look worked very well for your home!

**★★★★★ — Kathy Y, Feb. 2020**

> Peter is a consummate professional. Knowledgeable, affable and solid in every good sense. I had a spectacular but odd piece of land to build on. Peter took my personal preferences, home needs (he even anticipated needs I had not considered), budget and weird landscape into account and created a wonderful and unique home. Although the plans were done fairly quickly, there were many ups and downs getting to and through building. He weathered those alongside me, adjusted things as needed and gave useful advice in a timely manner.

**Comment from 2e Architects:**

> Thank you, Kathy, for your very kind words. It was such fun working with over the years. I am very sorry for all of the "curveballs" that life threw your way, but I am so happy that you are finally - after a couple of attempts - moving into your Dream Home! Your photos clearly demonstrate how the interior of your home shows off your amazing property! I love the open feel that we designed for you. I can't wait to see a bird fly across 3, or even 6, or even all 9 of the picture windows in your Great Room. - Peter

> 2e Architects had the vision to make our dream home a reality, and created such a remarkable transformation not only to our house but to the way we live. Our home was reinvented with seemingly simple and subtle changes which were highly impactful.

> Many thanks to 2e architects! Peter is equal parts inspired artist and amazing technician. There are many architects in the world today capable of drawing plans, but we were fortunate enough to find one who could create a unique space all our own.
>
> Peter has a unique process of eliciting from the homeowner their individual preferences of how the home will function and feel. Many of the people close to us have been amazed at how our house plans are so uniquely us in spite of the fact that our preferences are very different.
>
> On the technical side, Peter‘s work products are simply amazing! The 3-D renderings make the finished product come to life well in advance of construction. Additionally, the 3-D models prove the constructability of the design and facilitate field construction by allowing crews to actually see the way the design is built rather than needing to make the mental leap from plan and elevation views.
>
> I recommend 2e often and will definitely use them again in the future.

  - Description: When Michele and Greg asked if I could transform this house into a beautiful traditional home, I must admit I hesitated. They admitted they bought the property because of the majestic view. (Michele coined the phrase "aggressively ugly" when asked about the style of the BEFORE photos.) Before committing, I asked many questions about what they wanted. Finally, Michele said they wanted porches everywhere, front and back. As soon as she said that I knew it could be done! Thanks to the whole team, t…

## Community Q&A

**Q: What color is your siding and trim? Nice!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I think the siding color is Woodland Green - a standard color by HardiPlank. Off the top of my head, I can not remember the trim color. Best of luck with your project!

**Q: No question....beautifully done** *(in Photo Questions)*

Nice to see a beautifully done kitchen, wonderful materials in what looks like an average home- NOT a baronial mansion

A: Thank you so much for your very kind words! On top of what you have written, please know that Barb and Frank are simply wonderful people!

**Q: Where is the orange chair from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank you for your interest in 2e Architects. The chair and ottoman are the "Aidan" from Room and Board. There are many fabrics to choose from!

**Q: Can you explain how you created the TV/Fireplace wall?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: THANK YOU for your interest in 2e Architects. The wall is a fully custom built-in designed in collaboration with my client, Andrea, and her father is the craftsman that built this piece. The goal was a simple (without ever getting to simplistic) design with a hint of the exuberance that is Andrea. There were a lot of design constraints including; distance of wood to the fireplace, working the flue around the recess of the TV niche, hiding all of the tv equipment, integrating all of the materials and to top it all off the front door is just to the right of the unit so it HAD to look great from the side view as well. The proportions are VERY carefully designed to achieve the final look. Hope that helped!

**Q: Where is the table from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Again, my thanks Amy. Harris is indeed very, very talented.

**Q: Where can I purchase that gorgeous table?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thanks Amy!
