> I have had my appliances almost a year when my range needed service. I called FBS for help and spoke to the most polite and helpful person. Rebecca Warford went above and beyond in my opinion to help me get my range serviced expeditiously and without hesitation. I would highly recommend FBS Appliance for any future issues a person may have with their appliances they’ve purchased from them. If you need service, ask for Rebecca Warford!

> 1 star because zero star is not an option!! Absolute nightmare!!!! Do not waste your time and money and please go find another store who would provide good service.
>
> We bought our Thermador appliances from this company. It is almost a year since they installed them and they have not been able to fix the issues with the appliances and damages from bad installation yet! The installers broke the door for the oven in front of our eyes, hit it to the ground so the handles were damaged and the door would not close correctly. I contacted them several times, had several visits from "appliance genius". Every time they would say something different and my favorite one, this is normal. So apparently it is normal for the oven door to be crooked and sit half an inch outside where it has to be!!!
>
> The microwave would not consistently work. It took them 3-4 visits to fix it. Every time I had to take a day off, stay home for these people to come in...
>
> So please please please value your time and money and go find a store where they actually know how to do their job!

> Shirlee provided a thorough hand held tour making our shopping experience both extremely informative and enjoyable. We walked away feeling very confident the selection we made was the optimum for us. The professionalism and attentiveness we experienced is without doubt at a level not frequently provided. I would without hesitation recommend Factory Builder store and Shirlee to anyone seeking to purchase appliances.

> The best experience - as well as the best price that I could find. Judy was absolutely wonderful to work with - She helped out with our non-taxable paperwork as well. She stopped what she was doing when I arrived on purpose just to meet me face to face, then even met me out on the loading dock as well. March 17th, 2018 was the American Legion Birthday (99 years) and for only $319.00 we were able to get it installed just in time! Thanks again, Judy, and come on out to see us - looking forward to the second Sunday breakfasts and the fourth Friday Chicken Fried Steak dinners!!

**Comment from Factory Builder Stores:**

> Thank you so much for the great review Rob, I'm glad Judy could help meet your deadline!

> We are currently building just north of San Antonio, Texas, and our builder sent us to FBS for appliances. We worked with Ms Shirlee Sanders and the experience was fantastic. Not only was Ms Sanders knowledgeable but she made the entire experience fun. We learned so much during the visit and we were able to make some really exciting selections. We went in expecting to purchase fairly basic appliances but with Ms Sander's assistance we not only able to upgraded our appliances but were able to stay under budget. Highly recommend FBS!!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Side by side stainless refrigerator** *(in Appliances)*

Is there a side by side (not French doors) stainless refrigerator without a water dispenser on the outside panel that doesn’t cost five figures?

A: Hi teamej! These are pretty non-existant to be honest, but the Whirlpool brand does currently produce a model like you describe:

https://www.whirlpool.com/kitchen/refrigeration/refrigerators/side-by-side/p.36-inch-wide-side-by-side-refrigerator-25-cu.-ft.wrsa15snhz.html

**Q: Mis-match created because KA changed handle design** *(in Appliances)*

We are replacing an under counter ice maker which sits right next to our 6 year old stainless steel KitchenAid dishwasher. I'm trying to decide what to do since KA changed their handle design at some point in the past 6 years. Since these 2 appliances sit side by side it would be nice if the handles matched. I could:

\- Buy SS KA ice maker, and also buy a separate DW handle, switch out the DW handle to match new ice maker. (Q'n: can the DW handle be switched? I looked up KA instructions on installing a new handle and it doesn't look difficult, but I'm wondering if the dimensions would be the same; the instructions were geared toward replacing with same model handle).

\- Buy SS KA ice maker, and wait til my DW breaks and needs to replace, hope that they don't change the handle design again for a while, and live with the mis-match in the meantime. (Q'n: How often do appliance companies change handle designs?)

\- Buy a panel-ready KA icemaker instead of SS, have my cabinet pro make the panel, and install a cabinet pull which matches my other pulls in the kitchen, rather than trying to match the DW (Q'n: would the 6 year old SW Pearly White paint match the new paint on the panel, or does paint change slightly in that amount of time?)

\- Buy a different brand without a visible handle. (Don't know if the SS surface would match)

TIA!

A: Hi AJCN!

Mismatched handles can be annoying, but it's honestly not something that can be planned for - manufacturers do regularly update handles in new product lines, though they're usually similar in style to older handles. Unfortunately the new handle KitchenAid chose a few years ago is a big departure from their old Architect II handles. They actually still offer 1 dishwasher model with the old handle purely for replacement purposes, but this option doesn't exist in their other appliance lines.

As far as options go, we usually recommend the KitchenAid icemaker over others because it comes with an outstanding warranty (3 years limited parts/labor, when most are usually 1 year, or 2 at best). Icemakers are notoriously finicky, so I'd still recommend the KA model here for that feature. As far as your listed options go:

1\. The new KA handles are not made to retrofit on the older product, so I don't think this would be an option for you unless you're willing to have a 3rd party make it work. Even so, I'd recommend against it since this could mess up the integrity of your unit. The "solo" handles that KA currently offers for sale are actually meant for current panel ready models.

2\. This would likely be the most cost effective solution, since KA has basically set in to this handle and I'd expect it to stick around another 2-3 years at absolute minimum (I believe the old handle lasted 10+ years, so KA isn't necessarily quick to change).

3\. KitchenAid does have a panel ready option for their icemakers, and you would probably save more on the front side, but you'd make up and probably exceed that cost having the panel and hardware ordered. I can't speak to how closely it would match, but keep in mind that these panel sizes aren't always universal. So when it comes time to replace the appliance, this may need mods or a whole new panel to fit the new appliance.

I also know older KA panel ready icemaker models weren't fully integrated, meaning they'd stick out a bit from a standard cabinet depth, so you'll definitely want to check this will work as intended dimension-wise before pulling the trigger on it.

4\. There are options available that will have a more neutral handle like the Whirlpool wdccruise linked - that unit is actually very similar to the KitchenAid (Whirlpool owns KA), and I think the ice style is the same. The only thing you'd lose here or with other options is that 3 year warranty, and depending on brand, you may be looking at a different style of ice.

I hope that helps!

**Q: Can I use a downdraft vent with a Thermador range?** *(in Appliances)*

Thermador advises against using downdraft ventilation for its big ranges (mine will b a PRO 48" range). However, several appliance stores have recommended the Cattura 48" downdraft vent for the range. Has anyone got some experience with it or advice?

A: There are only a few brands that are "okay" with putting a downdraft behind a full size range, and even in those situations it's going to be ill advised. This setup in particular is an even bigger no no depending on the Thermador "Pro" range, as the Thermador "Pro Grand" is deeper than your average range, and downdrafts are really only designed for drop-in cooktops. The Best Cattura is going to be one of the better units, but I still wouldn't recommend it in this situation.

What it's going to come down to is that if that downdraft in any way causes issues in conjunction with the range, Thermador is going to wipe their hands of the situation since they already advised against it. This can be things like the ventilation pulling the flame and creating uneven heating, or just ineffective ventilation in general (those front burners definitely are not getting their smoke/grease/heat captured). If you do any high heat/grease or smelly cooking, expect those smells/heat to linger and expect to have to clean surfaces regularly.

**Q: pulls?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What size pulls are these?
Thank you in advance!

A: We only supplied the appliances on this project but it looks like they are 12 inch appliance pulls. Hope this helps!

**Q: what subway tile is used in this photo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello, I love the shiny look of this white subway tile. I assume they are 3x6 in size. Could you advise the style or brand to get the shiny finish?

Thank you, Amy

A: Hi Amy,
We supplied the cabinets and appliances for this project so I wish I could be more help. My best guess is you're correct with the 3x6 in size. Most tiles come in a matte or glossy finish, these would be glossy to get the shiny finish. I hope this somewhat helps and that your project goes well!

**Q: Can we feature your photo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi,

We’re very impressed with your photo featuring our Perlick outdoor refrigerators, and would like to feature it on our social media accounts. Please let us know if you’re okay this. We’ll be sure to provide photo credit!

Thanks!
The Perlick Team

A: Hello,
Yes, you can use this photo for social media. The builder was Venditti & Sons and we (Factory Builder Stores) supplied the appliances. If you could credit both parties that'd be ideal.
Thank you!
