The final product is beautiful and even better than expected. As first time homeowners, we were told many stories of renovations gone awry, but we were spared those experiences. Christophersen Construction was competent, and timely, with excellent communication and workmanship. Didn't realize that the owner is Chris and Todd I guess just works for the company. He is not an owner as he leads you to believe. Todd is a very smooth talker and he will get you comfortable with trying to find connections and make you feel comfortable. > > I am looking to put my house on the market and it is 12 years old. I need certain things completed around the house and Todd and I did a walk through and he made a list. I received a proposal though a new website as he said I would be a great tester and it allowed him to post before and after pictures. Never saw a picture other than using the site to give him a retainer. That is where the issues begin. > > I was told that we would draw down on the retainer of $2500 to rip the deck boards off as I had already taken the railings and spindles off myself. Even had a dumpster on site and I told them not to get rid of the wood. I would do that myself to again, keep the cost low. The deck was supposed to be fitted with new PT boards and the railings to be replaced as well. Deck boards are not properly spaced, about 20% of the nails are sticking out on an angle with sharp edges exposed. Several of the railings and the deck boards are junk and it just shows that when the boards were selected NOBODY cared. > > When you offer a contractor a drink because it is hot out and there is a dumpster on site it is rude and disrespectful to chuck your personal garbage in the pile with the wood scraps. Dumpster is right next to your truck! > > These guys bask ALL other NH contractors as hacks and that they have to come in behind to fix the mistakes that were left behind. This bold statement is an insult to the very qualified contractors building multi million dollar houses in NH and are from NH. > > When the deck was done I was told the money was exhausted. Nothing else was left to finish the other jobs in the house. WHAT?!?!?! The estimate I was told by Todd was $1500 for the deck and when I asked for someone to come back to fix the mess I was presented with a refund check of $48.00 and told that the $2500 for PT was an accurate bid. > > This was a bad deal all the way around and I was taken to the cleaners on this one. Don't get ripped off as I did. I am not done with this issue. > > At the end of the day this is not a company I would recommend and will post photos of the sloppy work as they are on my phone. The relationship itself turned into such a drama that we won't perpetuate it here but rest assured, we offered the customer multiple opportunities to express their concerns, asked specifically what would it take to make him happy, made sure he was present when we returned to fix the reported issues and then executed the final repairs according to his exact instructions. We wanted to take down a supporting wall and open up a doorway into family room. We also were remodeling our kitchen, completely, down to the studs. I received a detailed estimate and was made aware of any changes, by email if I wasn't home, and Chris was great about coordinating things. The finished product is gorgeous.
