**★★★★★ — Richard Jacobs, May 2026**

> Alair Homes Hickory did a great job building my residence. All the personnel were extremely helpful from the first meeting (online with Cody since I was living out of state at the time) through the final walk through (again with Cody). The budget software kept me apprised at all times of all costs and I was alerted of and had to approve any incorrect estimates before any changes were implemented (e.g., the cost of the well pump and having to increase the foundation’s height). As with any build, there were some challenges along the way (e.g., weather, subcontractors) and the Alair folks did their best to meet those challenges and keep the project on time and within budget. I was especially pleased with the draftsman’s work – taking my ideas and turning them into reality – and the men who completed the punch list (Wade and Jeremy). I highly recommend Alair Homes Hickory to anyone who’s considering building a home in the area.

> They built our home. Overall it’s a well built home for the most part. Stay on them, question everything, go out to the home site as much as possible to inspect yourself.
>
> \- the initial timeline they told us was way off (it ended up taking three years to finish from the time we first started talking to them. This includes 8months of their “pre planning stage”) their PM depicted shorter timeline is the reason we chose Alair compared to going with another builder but that ended up being false.
>
> \- Major lack of communication throughout the process. Including lack of response from the owner when our emails specifically addressed him.
>
> \- major oversights in their budget estimates. They will hold monthly budget meetings to go over what’s being spent. But these are mostly for them/the home office. They will move money around so that it doesn’t show overages to appease the home office and it becomes difficult to actually see what you’re over on. Be aware, their low and mid estimates are pretty much unreachable. In our last budget meeting we were told we’d be 13k over budget, then two days before we moved in they told us that overages increased by another 25k “due to invoices that were received”. Not sure how they missed 25k and this was never addressed by the owner even though we specifically asked him to in emails.
>
> Like I said. Overall it’s a decent house but their lack of communication, oversight of budgeting were the major issues.
>
> I’d say stick with things like remodeling where they give you one price and that’s what you pay.

> We needed a company that could not only perform the construction piece of the project but could design it also. We needed a complete tear down of our existent two car car garage that enclosed the front entrance. We were not really sure what the final project should look like or how to achieve it. Cody Byrd with his design and construction crew enabled us to achieve a beautiful front entrance with new deck and garage. The workmanship was superb and the materials were of high quality. Cody and his wonderful crew completed this project with an eye on even the smallest of details. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend this company to anyone. Anytime Cody had a suggestion that would enhance the project or we requested a change, we were always given notice of what it would cost. The project was completed on the timeline that we were given at the start of it and we were always informed of what was happening during construction.

> Cody and his crew placed a wood stove in my fireplace and detailed the metal covering so that no smoke would filter out around it. They were quick, efficient and it worked like a charm. Great company!

> As a real estate broker, many of my clients have used Vision Design Build Remodel for repairs and/or remodeling of a new purchase. I have personally used this company for many investment projects as well. They did an excellent job, paid attention to detail and work was performed according to code. They were on time and in budget. They are very knowledgeable and good at larger, more detailed projects.

**★★★★★ — Sean Williams, Oct. 2015**

> I will be using Vision Design Build Remodel when needing a contractor. Cody and his team are professional, courteous, and do a great job at a price that was appropriate for the job. I will definitely hire this contractor for all of my future needs.

**★★★★ — t\_f\_williams, Oct. 2015**

> I requested an estimate for a project at my house. They were very professional, and detailed in their estimate. I would have liked for them to do the project, but their quote was more than what I had planned to spend.

> I've met several times with Vision Design to discuss large remodeling projects in my home. We are still in the planning stages and have been very pleased with the design ideas. This company came highly recommended through both personal and professional contacts. I've been able to witness various projects, both commercial and residential, from ground breaking to completion. My observations are that Cody Byrd's work ethic is impeccable! He is thorough and on target.

> VDBR did a complete remodel on our bathroom. Cody gave us different options of materials and detailed prices to help us make our decision easier. His crew was very courteous and clean in our home during the remodel and got the job done quickly. We were beyond pleased with the way our bathroom turned out! After that job we used him again for building a set of stairs...we will continue to use this company for not only the quality of work they produce but the amount of time and attention Cody takes with us to ensure we will be pleased!

**★★★★★ — pppritchard25, Oct. 2015**

> As a painter I have witnessed first hand the professionalism and attention to detail that is prevalent in Vision Design Build Remoldel's projects. From exterior porticos to interior bathrooms they do it all. Cody Byrd maintains control throughout the process and expects nothing less from his subs than from his own crew. He always provides detailed drawings, plans and pricing and lives up the expectations of the homeowners. A class act!

> Enclosed back deck - turned it into a roofed, screened enclosure. Matched our existing house perfectly. They were easy to work with, reliable, and very professional. Since the original installation, they have come back to install cat-proof screening and that, too, turned out well. Would recommend them.

## Community Q&A

**Q: great kitchen! what color tile is the backsplash?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Tia!

A: Hello, thank you! The tile color is London Fog by Walker Zanger.

**Q: can you tell me what tiles were used for the backsplash?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me what tiles were used in the kitchen backsplash please?

A: Hello! Thank you for reaching out. The tile we used for this kitchen backsplash is the Cafe Series in London Fog by Walker Zanger. We hope this was helpful.

**Q: What are the tiles?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me the brand & color of tiles?

A: I wish I could answer that! These actually came from Lowes around 2012. I hunted for them for another project last year. Lowes quit selling them.
On a good note other manufacturers make them. They main tiles are 3" x 6" white marble. Their is also a pencil nose, chair rail, and the beautiful mosaic with black marble. Marble tile is durable but very tedious to work with. Lots of tiles get broke in the cutting process. Any tile supplier should be able to find them for you!
Good luck!

**Q: Bathroom** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are the bathroom dimensions?

A: 5' wide(tub width)x 8' long. This is minimal size for a bathroom. Small but nice!

**Q: How do you use this tub?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you have to first get in this type of tub and then put water in? Also - water must be drained out before getting out as well? Is this tub the same footprint size as a standard tub? thanks!

A: Supply lines and drain line work would have to be done with most any tub/shower replacement. A house built on a concrete slab would require cutting of the slab and exposing plumbing lines to move. I also recommend the water heater to be changed to a tank-less as this tub does require more water than your standard tub.
