Urban Ecology is an all-encompassing landscape company that is uniquely prepared to match our existing surroundings with your desire for a pleasing home. From design to installation, Urban Ecology is your partner to creating beautiful natural landscapes. Building landscapes that mimic the natural environment for both aesthetic and functional reasons is our specialty. Native plants are the core of all our designs, and many other non- native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants that are grown locally are incorporated into our designs. We also design and build custom fences, gates and decks that define spaces, the vegetable and herb gardens that can fill them, and build natural stone patios and walkways that let a person move through their space. Urban Ecology is devoted to creating and even maintaining an optimal environment, but the true test of the design is its longevity. Our landscapes are designed to be self-sustaining, however it takes time for the landscape to mature. I hired Urban Ecology to make a garden for me. It has turned out beautiful. Many people walk by daily and I get great compliments on the garden. I am happy with it. **★ — Rove North, May 2024** > After I paid a $2K deposit to Debra Gear, the owner of Urban Ecology, her crew put in one day of work and then disappeared. I contacted her repeatedly and in a cordial manner for nearly a month, and she finally came over to my house to explain she was going through some personal difficulty. I was glad to be sympathetic. Ms. Gear promised she wouldn't go missing again and would finish the job right away. Two weeks later, one laborer showed up and again put in one day of work. To this day, the job is unfinished. > > Despite a project cost of approximately $3,700, I got the impression my job was small potatoes and unimportant to Ms. Gear: a path that was supposed to be level is not, another that was supposed to be straight is anything but that, metal path edges are wonky, and excavated soil was left all over the place, including on top of the crowns of established plants in mulched flowerbeds. > > Finally, it only belatedly occurred to me that Ms. Gear never represented to me that her business is licensed or insured.
