These are Mojave Blue porcelain tiles from Artistic Tiles, NYC. https://www.artistictile.com/mojave-blue-pmjvblp24 Let me know how your renovation is progressing. **Q: Building a master suite---should door come off living or dining room?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hello, I'm turning a bedroom and hall bathroom into a master suite by closing off some walls in the existing floorplan and need some advice on where to put the entry door. The bedroom is at the front of the house and access is via a hall that has openings onto the living and dining room. By closing off one of the access points I will be able to build an extra closet in the hall. If the entry is in the living room, there will be 2 smaller closets. If the entry is from the dining room, I can make a single larger reach-in closet. Overall I estimate that the closet space gained will be the same, it will just be distributed differently. My inclination is to have the entrance off the living room since it will be used less than the dining room (there's another main living room to the right of the dining room that will be used more). The disadvantage would be that I would have 2 smaller closets and it might require more searching to find things if I don't remember which closet they are in. I prefer the closet organization with the dining room entrance, but I don't feel like a master bedroom should come off the dining room. Any thoughts on the best layout and what might be more preferable for resale value? I've included a drawing of the general layout, not to scale. I love the extra closet, and yes, the Master Bedroom should not be entered from the dining room. Your mind will be quickly trained as to where what clothing/accessory item is kept. Design shelving in one for clothing, and the other for accessories. Extra closet should also be more attractive when reselling. Ritu Saheb, Architect, AIA **Q: Quick help with roof color** *(in Design Dilemma)* My husband and I are having trouble agreeing on a roof color for our new construction. The siding will be Hardie Board in a custom driftwood gray color, and the stone will be Fond du Lac Country Squire from Buechel Stone. For the shingles, we had been thinking GAF Timberline HD shingles in Pewter Gray, but had read that it might have blue undertones. So we are also considering IKO Cambridge in Charcoal and Owens Corning Oakridge Peppermill Gray. Any advice? The pictures below are the siding and stone alongside the GAF pewter shingles. Thank you! That will help it make it concrete for you. **Q: Mixing different patterns** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have just had new stair carpet laid, i have very plain walls but desperately want to inject colur into one wall..it will be as you enter front door and to right of stairs, i have carpet to stairs, laminate to hall, so feature wall will nit be directly next to carpet....i Also dont mina a bit different, but is this too much..? phew!!! A: It is a bit too much for some people, but it depends on your personality. I absolutely love your combo!!! Bravo. **Q: Can I use these chairs with this table??** *(in Design Dilemma)* Ignore the green paint are in the process of painting. Will be all Elmira white (a light grey/beige) with white trim. This is my new table. Trying to keep it casual as it is a beach house. Getting this bench & will add chairs. Can I do these mid century chairs with my trestle table? Like this... And this.... A: Personally, I think not. I don't think plastic goes well with farmhouse wood. BTW, I have almost a similar setup- wood table, wood bench, and 'antique' finish metallic chairs. See below. Ritu Saheb, Architect, AIA **Q: Huge Patio needs some interest** *(in Design Dilemma)* We just purchased a home in the desert on a golf course. It has a huge patio with the pool along one side and a fountain and fire pit at the back. This leaves a huge patio area which is very tedious and which I would like to bring some interest to. We don't need any more shade as we have two very large covered patios with furniture in those areas. Looking for suggestions and ideas which would work in the dessert summer as well as winter.
