Initially we thought we would use 6" recessed lights but my husband is finding/ reading that 4" looks better. The 4" are twice the price of 6". Does it make that big of a difference? Would a pro use 4"? Thanks! A: how much more expensive are the 4" versus the 6"? Not sure which ones you are looking at. **Q: Paint this black?/ Artwork?** *(in Home Decorating)* I just scored a giant mirror today on Facebook market. It hasn’t been hung yet, but I’m considering painting it black & letting some of the champagne peek through. If I don’t paint the mirror, I will need to get black framed art & add some black to my centerpieces. Otherwise the room feels a little loose & washed out to me. Also- \*How high do i hang this mirror? thanks to the builder, there are 3 different doorway heights in this tiny space. Photo attached. \*What kind of artwork can I hang? I’m not exactly a conneseur. Photo of sunroom which you can see through our glass door is attached. Sorry for mess A: I would do a horizontal mirror, but the one you have wouldn't be my first choice. the bezel is too ornate for the room. not ornate, but a mirror should compliment the room. that one doesn't compliment any of the furnishings or lighting in the room, it stands on its own. kind of light the pink elephant **Q: What to do with Cedar Ceiling?** *(in Paint)* We just purchased a 1975 home and are in process of updating it. It has this really cool cedar ceiling with rough cut tongue and groove. We are going a different direction with the Tones in the house, grays and darker floors (actual color is Dura Seal's Aged Barrel in a matte finish). The walls will be SW Eider White and trim is requisite gray. We are totally unsure about what to do with the ceiling. Paint it, stain it. Open to any ideas the community may have A: Hi! in my personal opinion, I would make the ceiling smooth and paint it a neutral color. While I LOVE the ceiling the way it is, since you installed boards on the flooring I feel it will look odd. But, I may be outvoted here. Again, I love your ceilings, it just seems like way too many planks of woods to me. **Q: Trying to Minimize Without Losing Room Designations** *(in Home Decorating)* We have a very narrow living/dining room combination room (11x25). We spend a great deal of time in our living room, resulting in our dining room becoming a useless space and catch all because we rarely entertain. My husband eats in the living room using a TV tray that’s how overlooked the dining room is. I’m wanting to get rid of our large furniture minus the sectional and dog beds. I can’t move the tv location because of where our cable is located and the line not being able to be moved (I already tried this). I love floating shelves but my husband says if we put floating shelves in both spaces that it would be too much. I thought about a sofa console table behind the sectional and putting bar stools that can be hidden underneath when not using since my husband eats and watches tv non stop. The only problem I worry with that is we would have moved the focal point to one side and have this open space in the dining room. The only reason we have a hutch is for storage of old china from his late grandmother. However, we don’t use it and there’s two patterns and I only like one of them. That’s why I was thinking they should be displayed on floating shelves. What do you think is an easy resolution to declutter this space? A: I just put this in one of my client's dens. (this is a generic photo, this is NOT their den). We did the living room furniture very low, due to the small space and so it maximized it. this is what i envisioned in your space. quite frankly, I would move the sectional the other way and have a side chair behind the dining table, making the rooms their own without it feeling like you are trying to make a separate room. this way, they transition while keeping their own spaces. here's a photo of the console. It is media friendly, and has wiring holes behind it all. **Q: Help choosing paint color with pinkish-coral bricks.** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are removing the tudor façade stucco and replacing with Hardi-plank lap siding. I'm not fond of the pinkish-coral brick and don't want a paint to match one of the shades in it. I'd like a gray that will contrast nicely with it but everything I pick seems either too blue, too green, or too lavender (the lavender especially in afternoon light). Whatever body color we choose, we plan to use SW's Alabaster for the trim. We face northwest. A: hi carol! do you have a picture of a larger view of the home? **Q: Should I paint this door to match the rest of house?** *(in Home Decorating)* Should I paint the door and trim white to match the rest of the trim in the house? Is it odd if I just leave this wood and every other door and trim in house is white? A: hi anne! personally, i would not paint the trim unless you also plan to paint the fireplace. i think the trim compliments the fireplace. i would not paint one without the other. --- *Source: Houzz professional profile.
