> Jeff and his team did an excellent job. Replaced a retaining wall, front steps and landscape. From planning the project to its completion it was a pleasure. At the end of each day the work area was cleaned up and organized. Exceeded my expectations. A full transformation of the front of my home.

> We hired American Beauty to build a poolside patio in our backyard. The job required walling off and backfilling a sloped section of the yard, paving out the patio, and replacing several sections of fence. Jeff did fantastic work and our family is loving the new patio. He started the job on the date promised, and finished the job in a week as planned, despite rain on and off the entire week.

> Jeff was great about working within our budget and giving us different options and ideas. He showed us photos of his past jobs and took the time to take us to several of his past sites, as well as to the masonry shop to see and choose the right pavers in person. It's rare to find people like Jeff to work with these days. He seems to genuinely care about making you a happy customer and doing the best work possible. We will definitely be using American Beauty again for future projects.

> Our family could not be more pleased with the construction projects and maintenance services provided by Jeff and Greg Carpenter from American Beauty Landscape Design. American Beauty’s philosophy is doing it right the first time. Their design and construction of projects are built to last and be enjoyed for decades - not just a few seasons. Their vision, design, construction, and maintenance have exceeded our expectations in every way. In fact, we have had American Beauty redo the projects completed by the other landscape companies we used before we found them. Like DIY Network Star Mike Holmes who built his reputation by making it right- so do Jeff and Greg from American Beauty Landscape Design!

> The entire American Beauty Landscaping Team deserves a FIVE STAR RATING!!! Jeff and Greg are professional, knowledgeable, reliable, hard-working, experienced, and a pleasure to work with. We love the design of our new backyard patio, the privacy fencing, and beautiful landscaping. Jeff's guidance when we were choosing appropriate plant material was invaluable.
> Our property is well maintained and kept in tip top shape by regular visits from Greg and his team. We are very pleased with all the work
> done on our property by American Beauty!

> American Beauty provided a detailed outline and cost estimate to what I thought was a complex project. From the beginning Jeff was in constant contact with us and provided us with samples of various products. The crew delivered a perfect job on time and most important on budget. Our property was restored to perfection, we would highly recommend American Beauty Landscape.

> After a terrible experience with another local landscaper, our tree care professional recommended we speak to Jeff Carpenter at AMLD. The quality of the our landscape and the attention from Jeff during all phases of the project have exceeded our expectations. While the quality of the work and plants, given the expense, is very important, it is the process to get to to our comfort level on the project that sets AMLD from other companies. Jeff is incredibly patient and wants what is best for his clients. Jeff meets as much as necessary to get just the right look you want for the exterior of your home. He is not afraid to alter his design depending on budget considerations. Jeff also logically spread our project over two seasons so that we had a logical way to redo our entire yard, front and rear. You know the results are great when random neighbors from the town come up to you and compliment the work! My wife and I would wholeheartedly recommend Jeff and AMLD team to anyone in the North Jersey area.

**★★★★★ — Neil Wolfe, March 2018**

> During the summer of 2017, we wanted to rebuild our decrepit patio. The planning process began months prior with our first call to American Beauty Landscape Design (“ABLD”). The principal met with us directly and we immediately new we wanted to work with his firm. To be diligent, we obtained three additional quotes from other reputable contractors. There was no comparison. The degree of professionalism, patience, time and attention dedicated to us by ABLD was unparalleled. Not only did the principal take our desired concepts to design, he personally took us to three nearby homes where his firm had completed jobs for a real-life touch and feel experience. We met and planned the project several times before work ever began. He didn’t ask for a penny until materials, crew and equipment were delivered on site, and work began same day. He started on time, completed the project on time, and within budget. The principal was on site daily with his crew. As any homeowner can attest, issues will arise when completing a home improvement project. He made our project his own, and we were never taken advantage of. Every dollar spent was maximized. We were so enthralled with how things went, we didn’t stop with the patio and ultimately landscaped our entire backyard. To give any reader a sense of scope, we demolished our existing red brick patio and traditional staircase to install a two-tone blue stone paver patio with cascading stairs and new natural retaining wall; graded the entire rear yard; installed all new plantings; installed a new privacy fence; and laid sod across the entire area. We will use ABLD again on future projects and couldn’t recommend a firm more highly.

**★★★★★ — Ron Reiprich, March 2018**

> From start to finish, Jeff and the American Beauty team were professional, knowledgeable, responsive and dedicated. The service Jeff provides are exceptional and unmatched. It was quickly evident that Jeff approaches the process as if he was designing and building a patio for himself, with the highest level of quality. Jeff researches every aspect and provides the facts and insights for you to make a well informed decision. This level of service are invaluable and Jeff simply does it better than anybody around.

**★★★★★ — John Twomey, March 2018**

> We are very happy with the job done by American Beauty! From the creativity of the design, to the high level of craftsmanship, we could not be more satisfied. What was promised was delivered on time and on budget. Jeff and his entire team were professional and courteous throughout the process.

**★★★★★ — Mindy Schlossman, March 2018**

> American Beauty is a truly professional organization. Both Jeff and Greg, the owners, are involved on site with their workers. All the workers, and owners, are polite, professional, honest and do excellent work. In this business, you get what you pay for, and although American Beauty is not the least expensive in their business, you get what you pay for. I highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — Mark Weismiller, March 2018**

> We have worked with American Beauty for approximately 25 years for annual lawn and grounds maintenance as well as several capital projects. These projects included the installation of a new patio and walkway and our biggest project was the back yard preparation for an in-ground pool, paver decking and retaining walls and backyard landscaping to complement the pool.
> In all instances the work, materials and associated costs were explained in advance to our satisfaction and the project work was very high quality. They are professional and courteous and we have recommended American Beauty to several friends over the years.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Like the pool deck...natural or porcelain?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the pool deck stone?

A: Thank you for your question, its hard to tell right? It neither. That is Techo bloc blu 60 a concrete paving stone. Which is dry laid. You can more of it in our gallery and on our web site. We are certified Techo Pro installers. Regards Jeff

**Q: New home and backyard needs love. What type of designer to call for?** *(in Landscape Design)*

My 'new construction' house is almost ready to close and the backyard is in desperate need of love. My primary plan is to add a fence around the perimeter of my property, and to add a deck because my yard slopes downward (and I'd like to increase the amount of usable space). And then some low maintenance plant life, possibly stairs to walk down would be nice.

Who am I supposed to call for help on all of this? A landscape designer? Landscape architect? Patio/deck designer? I'd prefer to call one person, and then have them make any necessary calls, but I still have no idea where to start. The yard is essentially a very blank slate.

A: Hi Olive, First congratulations on not having your builder involved in your landscape project, I see so many new home owners victimized by the "builder's guy" . From your wish list I would agree that an landscape architect might be more than you need. May I suggest that you contact "The Association Of Professional Landscape Designers" , You will find many qualified professional Design Build Firms that can help You make your wish list a reality. They will be able to show you how to maximize the budget so you get more wow factor!! Good luck wish you were closer

**Q: Curbside Appeal Help Needed - Tricky Situation** *(in Landscape Design)*

While we have a lovely backyard, the front of our home is DIRECTLY on the street without any sort of front yard or driveway. Also, there is a flight of steps on the left side that takes you to the front door. That means that when someone pulls up to the front of our house, all they see is the garage and a small, not-so-great- looking access door. How do I make this space look warm and inviting?

Note: This is an older image - we have since cleaned up the weeds, added hardware to the garage door and hung a nice flag, but we need advice for a more substantial improvement.

Thanks!!

A: Hi Tiffany, Depending on your budget allot can be done ti improve your curbside appeal. First fresh paint will go along way. Next trim around garage door and entrance door- Check out "Fypon Products" there easy to install. Some planter box's on the railing could also help. Get some wall sconces and a new mailbox. If you have some construction monies removing the old wrought iron railing and installing some heavier corner posts and new railings- (There are so many to choose from). Installing a stone veneer would also look great! If you own any of the property in front of the garage door, pull up the black top and install a product like "Techo Bloc Blu 80" and while your doing that remove the wall on the right - dig that back a little so you can recess your trash cans and build a new wall with tumbled "Versa Loc" . If you do the pavers and wall just make sure the contractor is ICPI & NCMA Certified. Good Luck

**Q: ID these two plants** *(in Name That Plant!)*

The first pictures are of bushes blooming on my property in zone 7 (west tn). Some of them have thorns and some don't, but they are all attractive to honey bees here. I want to know what they are so I can plant more of them.

This picture is of a plant I found next to one of the blooming bushes above.

Any information would be helpful.

A: You can divide the sedum, just carefully lift out the plant with as much root area as possible then cut the root mass in half then replant. For the quince you can simply bend a few branch,s down to the bare earth and place a small softball size stones on the branch holding in contact with the earth, roots will form in a few months. Then cut the branch free above the newly formed roots. You will have a nice rooted cutting ready to plant!!

**Q: 9a front yard landscaping advice** *(in Landscape Design)*

Hello, long time lurker first time poster. Moved into my humble abode about a year ago. I have always desired a beautiful lush garden but have just now gotten around to making it a priority (this current beautiful Houston weather will do that to ya). I’m sure what currently is in place is builder’s original and while it is functional to an extent, I’m craving a full and colorful front yard and porch area. Unfortunately my budget is not unlimited, however I would still very much appreciate any and all ideas for present and future inspiration. Minimal maintenance would be ideal with a busy schedule, but I do enjoy working in the yard so definitely would not be opposed to anything that requires tending to a few times a week. I know this is the landscaping forum but if any house exterior advice could be offered I’d really appreciate that too. My backyard could also use some help but I’m the kind that has to focus solely on one thing at a time! I love the idea of keeping everything native and year long lasting but also realize that I’m new to this and the possibilities are endless. I’m neighbors with a thriving creek so I’ve included a picture just to give a feel for it; it doesn’t show the whole creek but will take pictures once suns back up if need be. Once again, any and all anything is greatly appreciated!!

A: I just saw your post and thought Id give you a different idea. I would remove the everything from the front yard, tree, shrubs , boarder stones and the concrete path leading to the door. I would install a new serpentine path that would twist away from the garage wall and around to the driveway. This will create a larger planting bed to soften the corner by the garage door, and make your entrance path more interesting. Id would suggest tech bloc blu 60 for the path. Then the bed in front of your porch should wrap around the corner and extend along the right property line half way to the street. This will allow you to block off your neighbors utility area and help define the property line. Fill the beds with boxwood, hydrangea, perennials Wish i was closer id swing by and lay it out for you. Oh never by plants at a big box store, go to a local nursery, they will be much more knowledgeable and care more about the success for your planting.

**Q: Pool landscaping ideas in Maryland** *(in Landscape Design)*

Love our small pool but have almost no land for landscaping and decorating around the pool. Too cold for ferns and palm trees and can't expand the concrete around the pool because of restrictions in this water community. From the pictures you can see how close one of our neighbor's house is to our pool. Need help please!
Susan

A: Gm Susan, I see your dilemma we face the same issues here with impervious surface issues regarding lot sizes. From what i could see you really don't have any usable patio space and you need privacy. You can remove all of the river rock from the beds. Choose an area to expand the patio into, We use a 3/8" size stone and install a product called "gravel loc" , it binds the stone so u can use it as a patio and water will still pass thru it . For the privacy start with Alaskin Weeping Cedar or Columner European Hornbeam against the fence in line with the chimney. Then plant Goldflame Spirea, Sonic Bloomer Weigela, Twist & Shout Hydranga, Green mountain Boxwood, Green velvet boxwood. These are all small to medium size shrubs that wont require to much maintenance so you can enjoy your pool!!!
