D-CRAIN Design and Construction specializes in custom solutions integrated to your specific indoor and outdoor living needs or realized from your private flights of fancy...or both.

Hailing from east Austin, D•CRAIN is a holistic design/build firm with an extensive portfolio familiar to many. Through a myriad of private residences as well as contributions to public spaces D•CRAIN realizes a distinctive integrated aesthetic that captures the imagination of clients, architects, and passersby alike. The tireless pursuit of harmony between the structure and the landscape leaves no stone unturned. D•CRAIN founder Dylan Robertson has been designing unforgettable spaces from his East Austin studio since 1994. Robertson’s design/build team, which has worked as a unit for over a decade, has set up shop in a distinctive sanctuary—two old Austin houses retrofitted as a three dimensional portfolio piece. Collectively, the team leverages experience in architecture, ecology, philosophy and highly skilled building trades to inform an approach that is both organically nimble and elegantly minimal.

**★★★★★ — Barb Mayben, Feb. 2019**

> We lucked out by hiring D Crain for a complete front and back yard transformation. Our yard was generic-looking and needed to be more livable and enjoyable. D Crain more than met our needs and did the job with excellence. This is a company worth hiring -- very professional, great team of people, on time, on budget, focused on innovative design, extremely capable (even building steel planters from scratch) and fun to work with!

**★★★★★ — HU-888989780, Jan. 2019**

> It is hard to overstate how exceptional D-CRAIN is. From the top down, every member of their team exceeds expectations. Simply put, they are worth the price and worth the wait.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What is the plant spilling over the wall?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the plant spilling over the wall?

A: Dichondra argentea (common name: silver ponyfoot)

**Q: Tree** *(in Photo Questions)*

What type of tree is this?

A: Desert Museum Palo Verde (Cercidium x 'Desert Museum')

**Q: How rapidly does the Cor Ten rust? Do you spray anything on it to speed up the process?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This is a mild carbon steel that we let rust naturally. There are many factors that determine how quickly steel will rust...it varies depending on things like your location and the weather/time of year. You can definitely spray water on it if you prefer it to speed up the process.

**Q: Is there concrete behind the metal?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: No there isn't any concrete...we installed a steel substructure to create this retaining wall.

**Q: Are these rocks or some type of floor covering around the squares?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I like the look of these, but if these are all small rocks, that's not what I'm looking for.

A: We installed crushed limestone gravel around the concrete pads.

**Q: Grass type** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the name of the soft (almost furry) looking grass?

A: Nassella tenuissima - Mexican Feathergrass or Mexican Wiregrass
