We found our color, easily, by painting big swatches of all three paints on different shutters; standing back and looking at our house from different angles. It was definitely an easy pick with Janene’s advice. We weren’t sure, (with so many porch lights available), exactly what we should purchase to match our doors, or for that matter, exactly what type of mailbox to get. Help needed.** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi everyone, This is my first time posting here as I need some advice on how to rectify the situation on hand. Unfortunately, my installer just completed the back splash installation in our kitchen and it turned out to be baby blue. In the store, it looked white and when I put it against my wall at home, it looked white. Once installed, it has a baby blue hue. I don't know if it's because the wall was not painted grey before installation or if it's the reflection in the kitchen/lighting/paint. I did go with a bright white grout to improve the 'overall look'. However, no luck. I would like to offset the baby blue as much as possible. After installation and some research, I found out that white glass tile gives off a 'blue' or 'green' tint. While our kitchen expert likes the overall look, I am still trying to get used to it and frankly speaking, a bit disappointed. I need suggestions on how to offset the baby blue as much as possible and if I can improve lighting or anything else to either give a white or grey look. Currently, we still have to do the following: 1\) Install under cabinet lighting/light valence What type of lighting should I go with to reduce the blue hue? 2)Install pot lights 3\) Grey Paint (thinking Cool Grey with a very slight blue undertone to help with the overall look of the kitchen) 4\) Bright White Paint on Window Frames I am also thinking of trying to do some decor and introduce other colors in the kitchen (in terms of accessories and decor) to distract from the baby blue. The kitchen was looking great (with white cabinets, stainless steel handles/appliances and white quartz) and the back splash is throwing it off. As you can see, the current paint is yellowish cream and by painting grey, it will improve the overall look of the kitchen. I just thought I would reach out to see if there any other ideas you guys may have. Please provide your suggestions, Thanks. P.S: In the future, I might consider ripping it out and re-doing it. For now, I am stuck with it. A: If you truly are unhappy you could faux (paint) finish the backsplash to what you want. There is a tremendous amount of different paint types/consistencies available to a faux finisher. Faux finishers' are artists....it is amazing what they can do with paint. There is a method to mixing paints and understanding paint application; faux finishers understand this concept. Always have a sample concept completed and view it in your home...big samples aleviate surprise... majority of the time. **Q: What decor/furniture for this living room wall?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm having trouble deciding what would look best on this accent wall? I've looked through hundreds of mirrors and consoles tables, but can't seem to decide. It's 42 inches in width.The colors for the rest of the living room are dark brown leather, white window casings, and beige walls. Thanks A: Keeping it simple can add a lot. So I would choose one idea from these suggestions: either hang a single rectangular mirror concept, a metal art rectangular in shape, rectangular tapestry with vibrant colors or a leather rectangular tapestry to be hung perpendicular to fill the length of the wall. Providing some pictures of suggested concepts. Doesn't matter front or back door interest throughout a home is a good thing. **Q: Help with family room please!** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm all 'ideaed' out! I have a very small family room that I am redoing. The floor will be finished with hardwood and I think I'm going grey for the wall color. I have placed the couch and 2 chairs and TV in every position and this placemetn seems to give the room the most open feel. Now I am having difficulty with trying to decorate the wall above the couch/chair and near the TV. I am standing in front of a half wall that breaks this room from the kitchen. There eventually will be a barheight counter on this half wall to sit and eat & watch TV from the kitchen side of the room. Appreciate everyone's thoughts! A: Based on your picture I would move the sofa in front of the television with the back of the sofa to the window, about 2.0 feet from the window wall. Then I would move the chairs off the walls and put on either side of the sofa opposite of each other to make a more intimate and homey feel to the family room. The coffee table would be in the middle. So you would be making a U shape with the furniture. Sofa at the bottom, sides would be the chairs.... **Q: moldings** *(in Design Dilemma)* do we really need to put crown moldings in the coffers created by these structural beams? craftsman style moldings will be placed around the windows and doors with simple pediments. the house is kind of an eclectic lake style with tudor detailing for the most part on the exterior. thanks for the help. A: Whenever possible always add architectural detail, as long as you are not taking away from the height of the ceilings...you do not want to feel as if the ceiling is coming down on your head.
