> An excellent experience with Bethany as a 3-part project of window covering upgrades took place over 18 months. New drapes, valances etc. Everything has been done to an extremely high quality and very much customised to my exact specifications. Couldn't be happier and would thoroughly recommend.

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Look at that photo! What a beautiful result. This classy home was perfectly suited to custom drapery. I enjoyed capturing your vision for the space. Great collaboration overall between home owner, designer and our trusted supplier, GiCor Lodging Projects. It was a pleasure working with you.

> We hired Bethany to design our future home. Not only is she a lovely, creative and talented professional but she has also done an amazing job in helping us "realize" what space will work best for our family, thus creating something that is special and uniquely "us".

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Thanks Jesse and Kyla! I am so thankful for the opportunity to design your new home with a nod to our heritage and a progressive small-space vision! You two are a dream to work with! Really looking forward to seeing how the project unfolds. Exciting times!

> We met Bethany seven years ago, we are currently working on our fourth project with her, needless to say we love her work. Bethany listens to our ideas and needs and often makes suggestions we would never have thought of, but we know immediately it is exactly what we need. Bethany is extremely creative , a joy to work with, sticks to a budget and we would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone considering a renovation.

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> We love working with you, Terry and Kathie! Thanks for entrusting us with your beautiful home and allowing us to use our creativity and skills to make YOUR personalities shine! Over the years we've become well acquainted with your sense of style. It feels so natural to design with you now. Thanks also for welcoming our growing team over the years. I appreciate the relationship we've developed and it means so much to me that you would extend that same trust to those I have chosen to come along side me. Looking forward to our next visit - as always!

> Working with Bethany at Comox Valley Interior Design for my bedroom design project was awesome. From our first consultation, Bethany is very professional and got to know my style right away. She intuitively went about creating a bedroom sanctuary space that completely captured all the elements of design that reflect who I am. She was mindful of my budget and timeline and kept me updated and involved from start to finish. Her ability to source and recommend beautiful materials made everything hang together. I love my bedroom and I look forward to my next project with Bethany!

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> This project was a perfect testimony to why relationships are a key part of the design process. Knowing about your lifestyle, goals, hobbies and passions allowed us to create a space the really reflects who you are. Looking forward to man more projects ahead as your family grows and life shifts in it's many delightful forms. Thank you for sharing your kind words!

> I hired Bethany Van Hecke to design and manage a project in Banff, Alberta. When we first met, Bethany shared her passion for designing and building to budget. She also explained that creative inspiration for her projects is pulled from her client's interests, personalities, and stories. Ar our very first meeting, Bethany was able to pull together a concept that was perfectly "me". Bethany is known for her ability to transform smaller interiors into functional and beautiful spaces and our project together is a great example of this. Throughout the project, Bethany managed the budget and kept me informed along the way. As challenges arose, Bethany was positive and professional - always responding with my best interest in mind. The end result is a personal office space that represents both my personality and my professional brand. I would highly recommend Bethany's services!

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Happy one-year anniversary, Christy! Being part of your live-work goals by helping you create a flexible work space has been a great experience! I love what we created together. Visiting you in your office and seeing how you use the space makes me smile. Every square inch of your efficient office is being used - we did good! Celebrating with you while your business grows is the icing on the cake. Cheering you on!

> We first had the pleasure of working with Bethany when deciding on window coverings for our house. We have several windows of various shapes and sizes, and were looking for window coverings that would meet all of our needs, without breaking the bank. Bethany worked with us to find the perfect blinds for each of our rooms, and it has made such a difference in how each room looks and feels.
> Most recently, we requested Bethany's assistance in finding a couch for our living room. We had been struggling to find a couch that would fit a smaller area, while not blocking some low windows and maximizing the use of space. Bethany went out of her way to contact furniture stores throughout Calgary until we found the perfect match.
> Bethany has proven to be hard working, creative, reliable and an absolute pleasure to work with. I highly recommend her services.

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Those were challenging windows! I'm glad we were able to find something that meets the practical needs and also gives the space such a warm and inviting vibe. Hunting for that sofa was a fun project - and it looks fabulous in your space! You've done a wonderful job of putting the final touches together. I noticed the antique tea cups on display in the living room right away - nice touch! It was a pleasure to work with you!

> Our company has met with Bethany a few times and have been very impressed with her energy and preparedness. We are thrilled to have connected with her and are excited to see the final products she will produce. She is a great addition to the Bow Valley and Alberta!

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> \#1 fan of Solkor over here! I so appreciate the comradeship we have in your business - including your entire team!

**★★★★★ — cecelia\_joan, Dec. 2015**

> We were very fortunate to meet Bethany soon after purchasing our vacation home in Canmore.
> Our plans did not include a complete renovation but some very modest design changes which would deliver a big impact. My vision was to not repeat the standard mountain cabin aesthetic but to be bold and think outside the box.
> Bethany accepted the challenge with enthusiasm. She not only shared my design vision but developed them into something far better. Bethany's incorporation of raw material is innovation and current. Her extensive and comprehensive access to resources is impressive.
> Bethany has a keen sense of professionalism and only delivers quality workmanship. I look forward to our continued working relationship and would highly recommend her. We have received many compliments on her work.

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Joan and Brian it has been such a fun exercise in creativity to help bring your personal flair to your Canmore home! I've enjoyed working together on the various contemporary design projects we've tackled. I'm looking forward to seeing what else we can come up with together :)

> We approached Bethany in the spring to provide design services for renovating two bathrooms. The scope of work included primarily space planning, material selection and tile design options. She met with us to ensure that there was a clear understanding of the scope of work and to determine detailed requirements and expectations. She was very professional in her approach; always punctual for meetings and was a good listener and open to our ideas and feedback.
>
> Her enthusiasm and ideas for new products and design alternatives allowed us to finalize on designs that were “timeless” yet “new and fresh”, but fit well with the rustic design of our mountain home. She went beyond our vision and added features that we would never have considered on our own. We have completed the first bathroom and are very pleased with the result, and have started the larger master bathroom renovation. Bethany continues to provide support by working through issues as we discover what is behind the walls. She is quick to identify new design alternatives, and keeps the overall budget in mind.

**★★★★★ — Modern Wall Design, Nov. 2015**

> We are working with Bethany for a couple of years now, during that time, we have completed many successful projects.
> We love working with her because, Bethany is a very talented interior designer,
> well organized, easy to work with.
> No hesitation recommending her for any project!

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Thank you Steven and Viktoria for getting the job done - and doing it on time with perfection! My clients have all kinds of good things to say about you folks. Thank you!

**★★★★★ — Lindsay Rousseau, July 2015**

> Working with Bethany was a positive experience. One that I can't recommend more highly. From the very first contact she was professional and responsive and highly communicative: this continued through our project and through all follow up.
>
> Bethany was respectful of our vision and budget and her creativity for problem solving and finding solutions meant that we actually never once worried about issues arriving. If anything, they were opportunities to make our project even better.
>
> We absolutely love our space and we look forward to working with Bethany again in the future. There's a reason she is in high demand, and if you're lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with her don't hesitate.

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Lindsey and Dav - thank you! What fun it was to fly back and forth from Vancouver Island to Calgary to meet with you and see your project to completion. Because of the the passionate vision you both had for your project, it felt natural to jump on board and assist you in bringing it to life. I am thankful to have become friends with you in the process!

**★★★★★ — Island TimberFrame Ltd., March 2014**

> I have been following Bethany's work for several years now and am continually impressed by her ability to design inspiring spaces. Whether it be a new build or a remodel, she finds a way to create something special and unique for each of her customers. Her glowing reputation in the construction industry is well deserved as it is obvious that her career path follows her true passion. I am very confident that the clients I refer to Bethany are in capable hands.

**Comment from b. van hecke:**

> Thank you Island Timber Frame (and Carl Tessman) for the affirming review. I have also enjoyed keeping an eye on your work and have been inspired by your integrity in the way you do business. In the Comox Valley there is a tight community of business people who commit to raising the bar, challenging themselves, and offering something unique to the community - it is a pleasure to be part of this group along with you. I think we're certainly due for coffee sometime - and I think it should be on me :) Sincerely, Bethany

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the chair. Where can I buy one?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi there - This stool is from Ikea - https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/70404875/

**Q: Flooring** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this floor. Can you please share the name and color?

A: Hello - This floor is from Forbo (Marmoleum). It is the "Striato" sheet series. Unfortunately it looks like this colour may have been discontinued. It was a dark grey/black variation. Amazing product for moist environments. Well wearing and perfect for a contemporary setting.

**Q: will this dining set look too traditional for my modern styled home?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I found this dining set on sale at a great price. I really like the look. My dining room has a traditional looking chandelier with dark hardwood floors. The rest of my house is decorated modern. I want to know if this dining room set will look good in our house or if it'l look too traditional. The dining room has its own hallway and doesn't connect with the living room.

A: "Juxtaposition" is one of the principles of design. You certainly can mix modern with traditional :) It sounds to me as if your tastes are eclectic - rather than purist modern. Have some fun with mixing and matching - especially if that is what you are drawn to. Here is an example of another interior that includes a traditional table in an otherwise modern or contemporary home. That table would look great with a modern table runner and perhaps a pop of colour on the chair seat cushions.
Good luck with your project!

**Q: Mirror in bathroom?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I can't imagine what mirror would look best in this space. I have the herringbone mosaic backsplash running up the back of the vanity and I would love to find a mirror that complements the colors and style. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.

(Sorry - I couldn't seem to get a brighter photo.)

A: We specify this mirror from School House Electric for bathrooms. Perfect Scale :) Looks like it might work in your space too. https://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/collections/mirrors/products/higgins-mirror

**Q: Split down the middle** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Need help trying to figure out living/den space in our split level. 13'3" across, 14'7" fireplace to stairs. Stairs come out 5'. Ignore the colors - all getting changed to lovely warm blue-grays and oak flooring and fireplace mantle. (TV replacing mirror). How do I set up the couches? I hate seeing backs of couches but I have no choice, right? Want it very warm, comfy and cozy. All advice and product links welcome!! Thank you!

A: I think symmetry may win in this situation. Perhaps consider two sofas facing each other, or a grouping of 4 arm chairs. Lovely space!

**Q: Wall color** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color was used on wall?

A: Martha Stewart - Okra
