> I have used Rick Carr at Carr Warner for two large projects - a custom modern home built from ground up and a transitional home renovation and addition. Rick's vision coupled with his attention to detail has provided an excellent design and execution experience. He is fun to work with and both projects brought creativity, excitement, confidence and success. He provided referrals for many subcontractors that performed beautifully as well. He works collaboratively and he gets to know you well enough to anticipate your needs. Since he does both exterior and interior design, everything works well and the process goes smoothly. We love our home and I miss working with Rick and keep thinking I need to come up with another project :).

> Carr Warner Architects is top notch!! Rick and Bill are a great team and work very well together along with their clients. We recently gutted and rehabbed a two flat in the city into a single family home. Rick did an amazing job designing our new home. Our new home truly meets our family needs and created a wonderful space to live along with entertaining family and friends. Rick has a keen eye for detail and vision of space. We have received many compliments regarding our new home and how the space was used. Rick and Bill are also very attentive to your questions and are very helpful with the whole process of rehab/construction. Carr Warner Architects are fabulous and would only use them for further project! And currently - Carr Warner Architects are doing a renovation project for my sister too!

> We used Rick Carr of Carr Warner to do a remodel/bumpout on our first floor and combine two bedrooms for a master suite on our second. We had a wonderful experience. Rick is creative, easy to work with and very talented. We stayed on track and finished on time. He was easy to reach if we had questions. He worked well with our builder. The whole project was actually an enjoyable experience. I know that is crazy but it was. We have this amazing kitchen, bedroom, basement and outdoor space now. It was worth any inconvenience. I love what Rick did.

> Carr Warner is exceptionally inovative, with fantastic & unique design ideas. Richard Carr not only created incredible structural additions and interiors for us, he advised and assisted with styles, fabrics, textiles and colors. Rick has an amazing ability to survey one's lifestyle, and create a home that perfectly fits one's needs. I recommend Carr Warner highly & without reservation - they definitely made our life happier!

> Carr Warner has completed various projects for two different houses for our family, they are exceptional from start to finish. Their level of professionalism is not found anywhere else, their attention to detail amazing and we always know they will be there for us with amazing ideas for every detail both great and small. Thanks for making our houses such great homes!!

> We have used this firm 3 times for house remodels and a garage construction. Both house remodels were gut rehabs and the garage included an outdoor room. We have enjoyed working with them and are very pleased with the results. I find them very knowledgeable, budget minded and professional. They stayed involved throughout the construction phase which has been a great help to us. Since our gut rehabs involved older homes, we always ran into some unexpected glitch. Whenever we did, they were there to help us with a creative solution. An example of this is when we opened the back of our house for an addition and found extra wall space, we ended up with a beautiful paneled arched opening with built in shelving on the sides. Another example is fitting a kitchen into our desired space with everything that we wanted and retaining some of the old house charm.

## Selected projects

- [Logan Square Garage Conversion](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/logan-square-garage-conversion-pj-vj~5884331)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: A former garage/repair shop was converted to a single family home for a young couple with two small children. We were all drawn to the large bow truss open interior and the possibilities. The building filled the entire lot, so early on it was decided to cut out an interior courtyard space to bring more natural light and have some sort of "yard". This reduction in floor area also allowed us to add a small second floor addition with access to roof decks and city views.
- [Victory Ranch, Utah](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/victory-ranch-utah-pj-vj~5884209)
  - Location: Kamas, UT
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The design of this home was all about the views and being connected to the exterior. The Owners wanted a classic western ranch with the interior feel of a boutique hotel. The home needed to accommodate a large multi-generational family and visiting friends . The massing of different volumes, mixture of materials (stone, cedar horizontal and board and batten siding, metal and wood shingle roofing) and multiple roof lines of the exterior helps to break down the overall scale/size of the home while…
- [Harris Farm, Michigan](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/harris-farm-michigan-pj-vj~6186339)
  - Location: Galien, MI
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: The original farmhouse did not provide enough living/sleeping space for large family gatherings and the Owners felt the existing pool was too distant/separated from the home (safety, hanging out). The interior was very dark and did not take advantage of access/views of the surrounding property, too. The one story addition incorporates an entry/ mud room/laundry/powder room, an expanded dining room, a large family room and a private Master Suite. The barn sized screen porch (complete w/ cupola an…
- [Palm Beach Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/palm-beach-renovation-pj-vj~5882831)
  - Location: Palm Beach, FL
  - Photos: 19
  - Description: A John Volk designed home (not landmarked) was renovated/updated to meet the needs of the new home owners (and current hurricane building codes). While retaining aspects of the Federal style, the new designs floor plan opens up views to adjacent spaces, exterior courtyards, and Lake Worth for more relaxed style of living. Interiors with Terese Messina Designs.
- [Shih Loft - Chicago](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/shih-loft-chicago-pj-vj~843261)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: This West Loop loft is blessed with unobstructed views for downtown. Extensive remodeling was necessary to incorporate the Owner’s desire to follow the principals of Feng Shui. Existing 14’ high ceilings provide an ideal backdrop for large scale art work while still allowing for defined formal and informal spaces in this open plan setting.

- [Lakeside Think Tank, Michigan](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lakeside-think-tank-michigan-pj-vj~63116)
  - Location: Lakeside, MI
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: An abandoned artist studio overlooking Lake Michigan was transformed into a guest house/corporate retreat. The objective was to express the simplicity of the existing structure and the purity of the materials. The original post and beam structure, wood floors and fireplace wall were integrated with sustainable building materials and methods for this "green" renovation.
- [McEnery Addition/Renovation Elmhurst](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mcenery-addition-renovation-elmhurst-pj-vj~63219)
  - Location: Elmhurst, IL
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: Surrounded by historic homes in Elmhurst, the Owners wanted to make sure their homes expansion looked like it had always been there. From the street, the addition mirrors the existing structure creating a formal central entrance, while the rear façade has a more relaxed rambling English Arts & Craft feel. Traditional detailing continues on the interior, while incorporating an open modern plan that allows natural light and views throughout the home.
- [Kramer/Ernst Old Town](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/kramer-ernst-old-town-pj-vj~63163)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: The Owner’s of this new single family home in Old Town knew they wanted a modern design with every space in the home functional. A unique city lot allowed the lower level to walk out at grade. Geo thermal and sustainable materials addressed the Owner’s interest in building “green” as possible.

- [Dingens Residence, Lakeview](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/dingens-residence-lakeview-pj-vj~63143)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: The design of this home takes advantage of it's corner lot in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. Twin peaks, an inviting front porch and a mixture of exterior materials relating to this neighborhood's vernacular, enhance the home's massing.

- [Winchester De-Conversion](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/winchester-de-conversion-pj-vj~7308557)
  - Location: Chicago, IL
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The interior of the 2 flat was completely gutted to create a modern city home for our clients. The new floor plan opens up views on the first floor from front to back, while digging out the basement allowed the adequate ceiling height for a family room, play/exercise area and guest suite. The center piece of the home is an elegant curved stairway that brings more natural light to the center of the home. A small 2nd floor addition on the back allows for a larger primary suite while providing a co…
