Barron & Stoll Interior Design actively embraces the New Traditional viewpoint as a platform for the good life. In a world of instant gratification Barron & Stoll interiors slow the pace of today's lifestyle through their timeless designs. These luxe interiors are secured by classical sensibilities - a moment in time - yet balanced with a nod to modern eclecticism. "A room should be a snapshot of the owner" says designer and principal Laura Stoll. Laura's keen eye brings the New Traditional style into sharp focus. "A well done interior doesn't equal stuffy or contrived, but should be a natural balance of beautiful furnishings and accessories, color and texture that add up to rooms one's guests never want to leave. We're really telling a story. The best designed interiors compliment - reflect - the client's point of view and ultimately showcase a life well-lived through family gatherings, travels, and the odd flea market find!" It's this intimate study of objects and events that add much more to a home. It's an album of dreams recognized, a story worth revisiting time and time again.

> Barron and Stoll Review
>
> I first spotted Laura’s apartment in an issue of Traditional Home and was immediately drawn to her fresh, energetic aesthetic that combined sophistication and approachability. Initially though I wondered whether a designer featured in a magazine would be interested in working with me! Knee deep in a whole house renovation and with another baby on the way, urgent decisions compelled me to make that call. Nearly a quarter century later, our Barron and Stoll collaborations have built the foundation of how we wanted to live with our family and spanned the initial beautiful design to a recently finished refresh after the children have left home.
> And the story continues. Laura’s eagle eye guided our eldest daughter through the design of her bridal gown and her vision of the wedding reception to the bones building of versatile furnishings in the newlywed’s first home together. Our recent graduate benefitted from her “something old, something new” talent to weave inherited and hand-me-down pieces into a hip millennial first pad. So we come full circle in our design relationship and friendship. Barron and Stoll have worked to capture each of our unique views on how we want to live into beautiful homes at each stage of life. Each of us has loved working with Laura, a talented and inspirational woman.

> Laura Stoll of Barron & Stoll gets a 5 star rating from us. We have worked with her on 2 projects. She is easy to contact. Responds to questions quickly. No problem with Laura understanding what look we were working torwards. On our more recent project she acted as a general manager before our move into the new house meeting painters, floor finishers, electricians, wall paper hangers etc for us. Laura had no problem integrating our important existing pieces with new acquisitions and using old pieces in new ways. If any item was delivered incorrectly it was promptly handled with Laura and the vendor. I never had to stress over it. Rarely did that ever occur. Deadlines were met with no problem...that being said Laura cannot control production and delivery so if you are told a time frame do not expect it to come any sooner. That is just unrealistic and not in Laura's control. Our home is comfortable and beautiful. It is not a home where you feel that you can not touch or sit on any piece of furniture. Sometimes I feel we need to tell friends"ok time to go" Everyone settles in. That feeling of being welcome in our home was and will always be very important to us. We have all ages coming and going and 2 pets. In addition to Laura's professionalism, I really just had fun going to the mart or having her bring fabrics and pieces over to discuss and try out. Always a great listner no matter the subject. Laura has truly become a friend to our family.

> I have worked with Laura Barron Stoll and her firm over the past two years to transform my Chicago residence. Laura has a very keen and artistic eye and was able to present and manage a design plan that thoroughly exceeded my high expectations. Laura is professional, engaging, and very talented. She is a colorist in the true sense of the word. I feel like my new home is a wonderful reflection of my relaxed lifestyle. It doesn't look decorated, but is casually relaxed and unstudied. This uncontrived quality is exactly what I was looking for, and Laura really delivered! I would highly recommend Laura and her team at Barron & Stoll Interior Design.

> Having worked with interior designers for more than 30 years has taught me a few things. One of the important lessons learned is the importance of listening to your client. While observing Laura Stoll work with her clients, I quickly recognized that something special had taken place between them. Laura had listened carefully to them and had created spaces that responded to both their dreams and their needs. Unlike some designers who enforce their personal stamp on a project, Laura understands that her purpose is to create environments that enhance the lives of her customers. This goal had been reached in each interior space that I worked in. The homes were beautiful and gracious. The spaces were adorned with tasteful and classic pieces, while the overall result was a living space of comfort and style. Without reservation, I would recommend Laura's design services to any individual seeking to upgrade their residence.

> I met Laura Barron Stoll when she was designing the office for the President of an international TV network in Chicago and I knew immediately that if I ever hired a design professional it would be Laura. In 2012 Laura and her team at Barron & Stoll designed and managed a complete gut rehab of our 50 year old home. Our only request was that we wanted to feel like we were living in a vacation home all year round! Laura transformed our "beige" 1960's ranch into a "Nantucket" cottage...complete with vaulted ceilings, an open floor plan, and tongue and groove walls. Laura used a bold and colorful mid-century Josef Frank fabric and curated a modern art and folk art collection to really reflect our lifestyle and "colorful" personalities. Laura and her team completed our project within our time frame and budget...which was important to us. Needless to say, we love our vibrant home and get tons of compliments...mostly that our guests feel so comfortable that they don't ever want to leave! Laura far exceeded our expectations and truly gave our home a second life! She's a pleasure to work with, collaborative, professional, and very creative. I would highly recommend Laura and Barron & Stoll Interior Design...the best of the best! Jill Muck

> I have worked with Laura on many projects over the years, selling area rugs, custom carpets and broadloom carpeting. Her professionalism, artistic flair and creative ideas make each one of her projects a pleasure to be a part of. The end result... clients that have beautiful, functional and timeless carpets that are unique to their personalities.

> We have collaborated with Laura Stoll on several high end residences. She is an extremely talented designer with a great eye and her work always enhances ours. Laura is a pleasure to work with, listens carefully to our clients' goals, communicates well and delivers exceptional design in a professional way. I have worked with several other quality designers over the years but chose Laura to work on my own home and she exceeded my already high expectations. I highly recommend Barron & Stoll.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Paint color? Stucco color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Larry, Thanks for the inquiry! The stucco and paint colors are custom mixed. The company that built the coach house is Tim Thompson Custom Builders. Perhaps they would be able to help you. Regards, Laura Barron Stoll

**Q: color of the shingles** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello, would you mind sharing the color of the paint used on the shingles? thanks!

A: Beautiful!

**Q: Windows** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where did you get the amazing windows?

A: I love your windows...such a modern take on a classic technique!

**Q: New White Kitchen in Downtown Chicago Condo** *(in Other)*

We just finished redoing a dated kitchen with wood cabinets - very happy with the results!!

A: This looks very pretty...I especially like the mirrored french doors!

**Q: Backsplash Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need help deciding on a backsplash. I am drawn to subway tiles and originally had planned on just doing a classic white subway tile. Now I am worried my kitchen will be too white. We have white cabinets, an espresso island, dark brown floors, light gray walls, and bright white trim. I also like Carrera marble. Any thoughts? Should I do a penny tile? Stick with subway? Thanks!

A: I love the idea of the white subway tile. It is a classic and will pair very nicely with your cabinets and granite. I absolutely do not think it will be too much white. Perhaps go for a pillow edge subway....it is very beautiful and a little different. Good luck with our project!

**Q: treatment for recessed window** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We just bought a townhouse in which the master bedroom has this recessed window. Any suggestions on how to dress it?

A: I would mount a valance at the ceiling line outside of the nook with some side panels. This will help create a space where you could have a sofa, bench, or dressing table.
